@@chrisolivo6591 - I did. I read it as soon as it hit the stands. I had no idea that there would be any MAJOR plot developments along those lines. My expectation was it would be similar to the first film in tone and, of course, it wasn’t.
David Prowse never signed an NDA. He was given a script with dummy lines, as was Mark Hamill. Irvin Kershner told him just before shooting the scene what the real line was, and told him "I know it, George knows it, Larry knows it, now you know it. If it gets out, you leaked it.
The time Luke spent on Dagobah is hotly debated, but thought to be at least a month and maybe six. The Falcon had to reach Bespin without going to light speed and it was barely in range of their sublight engines - that would have taken a while. The possibility of time dilation has also been suggested, so it's a mystery how much time Luke experienced with Yoda.
When Luke was rescued by Han on the planet of Hoth, emergency crews placed Luke in a Bacta tank/Bacta Pod. It’s a tank fill with Bacta fluid which has healing properties (when patient is submerged) and helps to accelerate the healing and treatment for wounded patients.
I feel for Dak's parents... "Dear Mr and Mrs Ralter, we regret to inform you that your son Dak was shot with a blaster, then crashed in his speeder. And then he was squished as flat as a pancake under the foot of an imperial walker. He was then frozen solid, snowed over, and left behind on a desolate ice planet for all eternity."
The whole reason for the "Yeti" on Hoth was that Mark Hamill was in a bad car accident and needed to have his face reconstructed.. the scars you see on his face when he's brought back to the base were real! The "Yeti" scene was written to explain why Luke now had facial scars since makeup couldn't cover them up completely
@@LiveFromThePorcelainPalace That's why it always makes me smile when I hear Yoda say "Reckless is he" about Luke. I understand that Mark Hamill was driving on the 10 Freeway in L.A. and zoomed over 5 lanes going too fast when he realized he was about to miss his exit and that caused the accident.
Now you know why Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru didn't want Luke to know about his father, about Ben Kenobi, about their history together. "He has too much of his father in him." "That's what I'm afraid of..."
00:07:20 The liquid Luke is bathing in is called Bacta (the device being called a bacta tank). Bacta is a solution used in medicine that boosts the body's natural ability to regenerate tissue and thus greatly speeds up recovery from injuries.
1. Han to Chewy, "Laugh it ups fuzzball"🤣 2. The scene in the cave is Luke seeing into his future if he were to turn to the dark side. 3. Do them in the original release. They were put that way for a reason. Jumping ahead ruins it for you and us. 4. IRL Ford and Fisher were having an affair. She was only 19 and he was much older and married. She put it in her biography before she died. She got an ok from him to put it in there. 5. Hans', "I know" was ad lib and required a new script to be written in the next movie. 6. You will learn more about the emperor and Darth Vader in episodes I, II and III. 7. The next one wraps everything up and IMVHO is the best of the original VI Lucas episodes
to me captain neida is an absolute superman. to go apologize to vader in person, knowing what's in store for him... most of us would jump in the shuttle and desert instantly!
Lol when they were filming Luke in the snowstorm, the area where they were shooting got hit with the worst snowstorm in like decades. The snow was piled up like 20 feet covering the place where they were staying. They simply dug out the snow at the door and comfortably shot from the warm room while Mark was staggering out in the blizzard.
12:53 do you see that sticker on the left side of the door? it's a leftover from a cut scene. in the original scene, the few wampa (snow monsters) attacked the base, they were barely able to defeat them, the rest were tricked into the room and the door was closed on them, and a sticker was placed on the door with the inscription: do not open it!
Well, they're correct... Chewie seems to like him somewhat. It could have something to do with the fact that C3PO is one of only two characters in the entire series that actually understand what Chewie is saying.

The order of the original trilogy is Episode IV:1977, Episode V:1908, Episode VI: 1983. Here's a cool movie factoid: The guy playing Boba Fett is Jeremy Boloch he was the Imperial Officer pulling Leia around the corner of the wall. I got to meet him at a scifi convention in Denver in 1999 he was a really cool guy. Sadly he passed away not too long ago I think it was either last year or the year before. He was the original Bobba Fett actor.

Between filming, Mark Hamill was involved in a bad car wreck. To explain Luke's facial scars, George Lucas wrote in the Wampa attack scene. EDIT: And the big water tank Luke was in is called a Bacta Tank. Bacteria is a healing fluid. In more ancient Republic times it was Kolto that served as the medical healing fluid.
16:23 I always thought of it more like a kind of dialysis chamber. Since you have seen more of these movies, you know how badly mutilated Vader is. That suit isn't just armor, it is also a composite of all his prosthetics, including his mobile respirator. It is like a physical illustration of all the things Vader had to sacrifice to accomplish his life long dreams. Including things about himself. 😢 BTW, this secene also illustrates an imortant lesson in Business Management; Promote people arbitrarily, and you end up wanting to choke them! 😒
Oldster here who watched these in the cinemas when first released. On the "I am your father" yes, BIG talking/arguing point for years. So take time in processing it. Back then we did.
the little pig people that were playing keepaway with 3PO's head were Ughnaughts, their figures were also tiny compared to the other 3.75 inch tall figures.
The decision to have the "other hope" and how they were connected was made during the making of this movie, but who it ended up being was changed during the making of the next film. Hope that made sense, tried to make it as spoiler free as possible.
Mark Hamill got into a car accident and suffered scarring on his face, the whole part at the beginning withLuke and the yeti was added to explain his scars.
In regard to Leia's feelings for Han, there are two things to keep in mind: A) The mention of their encountering a bounty hunter on Ord Mantell indicts an appreciable amount of time has passed between Episodes IV and V. B) The travel time needed at sunlight speed from the star destroyer to Bespin. As another has said, this may have been a month or more. Although shipboard, time-dilation may have seemed much less for those on the Millennium Falcon. Poor Boba Fett trailing in the Slave 1 would have had to stay until absolutely certain they were going to Bespin/Cloud City before he could jump away to get Vader & still get back ahead of them.
I never understood what anyone saw when it came to Luke and Leia the first kiss in the first movie was in the heat of battle it had no sexual or romantic feelings behind it the second kiss after Luke was rescued by Han the cold was clearly Leia kissing Luke to make Han Solo jealous and the third kiss was after they rescued Luke hanging from the city it was clearly a kiss of thank God we found you and you're ok but the tension between Leia and Han was always there it was clear as day
There was a Star Wars novel (non-cannon), Splinter of the Mind's Eye, that came out before Empire where Luke and Leia are lusting for each other quite a bit through the story (and she has to pose as his personal slave for a while too). I was mad at Han for putting the moves on Leia because of that book.

Fun fact! Mythbusters created a simulation of the environment of Hoth using the internal temperature of polar bears as an analogue for the tauntaun, and placed thermometers inside the “body” and they determined that, while it wouldn’t be warm, it would save a person from hypothermia for a few hours… long enough to set up a temporary shelter
Amanda wants to know the back story of the Prequels so you should ask her if she wants to watch them before Return of the Jedi and let her decide. Explain that although she will understand everything just fine if she watches RotJ next, and then watches 1-3, it's possible she might enjoy RotJ even better if she watches 1-3 first with all that context. Plus George Lucas made some big changes at the end of RotJ to better fit with the Prequels, which means that if a new fan watches them first, then RotJ hits much better as the grand finale of the first 6 movies.
Between this film and the last, Mark Hammill was in a car accident and suffered injuries to his face. I think the attack by the creature and Luke's subsequent injuries were meant to explain the noticeable changes in his appearance. I wonder if the cuts seen on his face correspond to his actual injuries.
I was 13 years old in 1977 when I saw the original Star Wars. I was 16 Years old in 1980 when I saw The Empire Strikes Back in the Movie Theatre. Everyone in the Theatre was shocked when Darth Vader told Luke who he was, The Scene with Leia telling Han she loved him was supposed to have Han say He loved her also.. After several Takes Harrison Ford just said I know. He explained that he felt like that would be a Han thing to do and George Lucas agreed. He allowed the Actors to adlib from Time to time.
Imagine somehow staying this insulated for all these years from the storyline of Star Wars -- not knowing that Vader is Luke's father, not knowing who the "another" person is that still gives them hope. How do you just not know about this iconic series that has been around for 45 years? How do you not know about the various mini stories and even the quotes from all these movies?
I just realized who the actor is that is playing the command center commander. That's the grumpy American who came to stay at Fawlty Towers. Remember? He wanted a Waldorf salad and a screw driver. Actor Bruce Boa. "I want you to go in there and BUST HIS ASS!" "Im sorry, bust his what?" "HIS ASS!" "Oh, right! That!"
ESB fun facts:as high as 130 degrees on tatooine daytime. Hoth -32 degrees day-probably way colder at night. 2) bacta tank :medical device to treat severe injuries
Amanda flew the Millennium Falcon before seeing Star Wars and there's only 2 reasons this could be true: she rode the ride at Disneyland or she's FROM the Star Wars Universe 😮👍
The bacta tank is a healing chamber. Also, Vader is the Emperor's enforcer. After leaving the theater, my folks & I debated who "the other" is! On one hand, Han turned on the Lightsaber. On the other, Leia heard Luke. We were convinced it would be one of them; & went to see the next movie still assuming it was one of them. By the way, Han's scripted line saying goodbye to Leia was: "I love you, too;" but the actor didn't think Han would say that, so changed the line. The director liked it & kept it. I think I've heard that Lucas liked the change, as well.
So with your comment on time moving slower in Yoda’s planet, that’s a real life thing. Time can move differently in different places. For example someone moving fast is moving slower in time so when you increase their speed, theoretically, time moves slower to the point that they will age slower than say someone on earth
Good point, that is Einstein's theory of relativity. ✔️ Because The Falcon and the Star Destroyers were traveling around so much closer to the speed of light, time would have moved slower for them than for Luke. Luke seemed to have spent weeks and weeks on Dagobaugh, while only several days seemed to pass for them.
"Star Wars" was released in 1977. Lucas reworked the original trilogy in 1997, adding some CGI and additional scenes; he pronounced them as the definitive versions.
And to think if they had made C3PO a higher priority and fixed him right away instead going off for dinner C3PO would have warned them about the stormtroopers. Remember C3PO saw them and said that he must go tell the others and then realizes he was shot. It is later shown that C3PO would have told them right way by when Chewie starts putting him back together while in the cell and he briefly comes to life and one of the first things he says is "Stormtroopers! Here? I must tell the others." before Chewie disconnects him to work on him some more. So if they had fixed him right away they would have been warned that the Empire was there. But, no, they just left him in a heap and went to eat. But, on the other hand, then we wouldn't have had that great portion of the movie.
One thing that helps to know about time, it’s not a constant everywhere in the universe. Gravity affects the rate at which time passes. If I got on a ship, travelled to a planet in a stronger, or weaker gravity environment, time would move differently for me than you. It might move slower for me, and faster for you here on Earth, if I went to a planet in a higher gravity environment, say a planet orbiting a massive star many hundreds of times the mass of Sol, or even a neutron star or black hole, or a star that’s in a close cluster of other stars with a higher gravitational environment. The opposite would happen if that planet were to be in lower gravity, say orbiting a dwarf star in a void where there aren’t many other stars around, and the gravitational environment is quite weak. Dagobah may have been in a lower gravitational environment, and Luke would have experienced the passage of time faster than Han and Leia who were in open space until reaching the Bespin system. Also, the Falcon was limited in propulsion without a functional hyperdrive, so the trip from Hoth to Bespin could have taken a month or two at high sublight drive.
It's hard to believe there are still people who are surprised by the "I am your father" line. I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet, but I looked through the comments and I didn't see anything, but when Leia says "I love you" to Han and he responds "I know", the original script called for him to say something like "I love you too", but Harrison Ford thought that that didn't sound like Han, so he suggested the script change to George Lucas. The advantage you guys have over those of us who saw these movies in the theater is, you don't have to wait another three years now to see the next one.
He was in an auto accident after filming the original Star Wars, and when filming began on Empire, Lucas was worried people might wonder about his slight plastic surgery, so they explained it away with the Wampa injury.
The kiss Leia gave Luke in the infirmary was just to take a rung out of Han's ladder as he was being uber cocky.

David Prowse never signed an NDA. He was given a script with dummy lines, as was Mark Hamill. Irvin Kershner told him just before shooting the scene what the real line was, and told him "I know it, George knows it, Larry knows it, now you know it. If it gets out, you leaked it.
I like the fact that Jones knew the line, but guessed that Vader was lying. Even he was in for a surprise.
Actually David Prowse did not know about it. The lines he was saying when they were filming were not the same ones that James Earl Jones said.
According to lore, the Falcon has a X12 backup hyperdrive. It 24 times as long for it get anywhere.
@@brucechmiel7964 Since the Falcon's hyperdrive was rated at .5, would it have taken 24 times longer with an X12?
@@scottdean2199Yeah. You’re right. I should have been more specific. 12 times as long assuming a base 1 light speed.
So certain are you? 😉
I understand that Mark Hamill was driving on the 10 Freeway in L.A. and zoomed over 5 lanes going too fast when he realized he was about to miss his exit and that caused the accident.
omg… i always thought it was called Bafta tank 😂
Now you know why Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru didn't want Luke to know about his father, about Ben Kenobi, about their history together.
"He has too much of his father in him."
"That's what I'm afraid of..."
I will never tire of watching good people discover these movies.
It's as good as watching someone discover The Ten Commandments, The Big Sleep or LA Confidential
The opening text, and episode numbers were an homage to the science fiction serials of the 30s and 40s.
There should be a whole support group for people who have had limbs chopped off in this franchise.
C3PO could be the president, as he technically has had it happen twice already!
That would be a huge support group.
@@phila3884 Anakin had it happen four times (three in one incident).
I watch this channel obviously for Mom #1. But Mom #2 is a fav because of her love for C3P0!!! All hail Golden Rod!
Creepio. "The Singularity Engine!"
Love that this movie gives a subtle hint to a character that's right in your face that a lot of people don't get.
Can't wait to see how your friend reacts to this one. They really upped the ante in this one.
I’m gonna need you both to thoroughly remember that kissing scene for the next movie 😅
22:48 "I don't think I've seen that."
I sense a whole new channel maybe in our midst 😂😂😂
00:07:20 The liquid Luke is bathing in is called Bacta (the device being called a bacta tank). Bacta is a solution used in medicine that boosts the body's natural ability to regenerate tissue and thus greatly speeds up recovery from injuries.
1. Han to Chewy, "Laugh it ups fuzzball"🤣
Finally, been waiting for over a week now, great reaction!
That tank is called Bacta Tank used for healing
I need much more Amanda! Invite her to finish the two trilogies!
Amanda hasn't seen The Princess Bride? Well I guess we know what's on the watch menu pretty soon.
Fun fact about the age of this: The release date of both this & the previous film is closer to the ending of WWII than to today...
& it's NOT close.
Thanks buddy, how to make a guy feel reaaallly old now!
You know my motto, the more moms the better!!! You're fantastic, thank you!!!
You said the dragon slug doesn’t like metal, well in the original version, Luke says to Artoo “ You’re lucky you don’t taste very good “
Star Wars came out in theaters in May 4 of 77 and was still in theaters in 78. and Empire Strikes Back was released in 80.
to me captain neida is an absolute superman. to go apologize to vader in person, knowing what's in store for him... most of us would jump in the shuttle and desert instantly!
C3PO? the one character that only a mom could love...
Probably not Mom from _Futurama,_ though. She would just as soon jam a squirrel in him.
Well, they're correct... Chewie seems to like him somewhat. It could have something to do with the fact that C3PO is one of only two characters in the entire series that actually understand what Chewie is saying.
A royal pain in the tookis.. at times
@@Mr.Ekshin maybe Chewie knows they were both around at the same time pre-Vader :P
Guess I'm a mom now then
I just subscribed! Sorry that I don't remember your names, but some suggested replies when "Marine Mom" asks a question are, 'hmm', 'could be', 'mmm', 'interesting question', and maybe 'I also wondered that.' lol I llove how relaxed and conversational you guys are after the move! I'd love to see "Marine Mom" especially bring a little bit more of that fun into the actual reaction. I'm going to guess that it must be more difficult when you are used to doing reactions where both of you get to bounce off of each other more. You were so lucky to have found out that Darth Vader was telling the truth so quickly! We had to wait for three years before the next movie came out! I'm so happy to have found you two!
Back when this came out we, the fans, speculated that Wedge Antilles was "the other" since he survived the Death Star battle and the Battle of Hoth & we were very certain that he'd be back for the next film.
Oh, yeah. The one with the disco mustache!

New Hope reaction was great. Really looking forward to this. I can never see the movie again for the first time but genuine stuff like this is almost that good. Movies with Jiu-jitsu Mom's!
30:25 --- Carrie Fisher was 5'1 , Harrison Ford is 6'1, Peter Mayhew was 7'3 . :)
Believe it or not, the Rebel officer who said "the shield doors must be closed" was actually Cliff Claven from Cheers.
Was waiting for this one with you two! So much fun.
Elizabeth & Amanda, you do not yet realize your importance. You have only begun to discover your power. Join me, and I will complete your training. With our combined strength, we can end this destructive conflict and bring order to the galaxy. It is your destiny..
No. I am your mother.
6:13 Han could have tried placing him _under_ the tauntaun before cutting it open.

Promote people arbitrarily, and you end up wanting to choke them! 😒

so glad you got your sister involved.. love it
Oldster here who watched these in the cinemas when first released. On the "I am your father" yes, BIG talking/arguing point for years. So take time in processing it. Back then we did.
"The Empire Strikes Back" is the BEST "Star Wars" movie and one of the GREATEST films of all time. Easily my favorite John Williams film score.
the Yeti that attacked Luke is called the Hoth Wampa, his figure was bigger than the other 3.75 inch tall figures.
Hi. Star Wars was released in 1977. And The Empire Strikes was released in 1980.
Wooteedee 🎉🎉🎉 I ❤ SW , you're both in this time
Fun Fact: This is my favorite movie of all time, and watching this video made me want to watch this movie.
Amazing!
the little pig people that were playing keepaway with 3PO's head were Ughnaughts, their figures were also tiny compared to the other 3.75 inch tall figures.
36:04 Luke’s confidence comes from his mom
In regard to Leia's feelings for Han, there are two things to keep in mind:
A) The mention of their encountering a bounty hunter on Ord Mantell indicts an appreciable amount of time has passed between Episodes IV and V.
By far far and away, the best star wars film.
I never understood what anyone saw when it came to Luke and Leia the first kiss in the first movie was in the heat of battle it had no sexual or romantic feelings behind it the second kiss after Luke was rescued by Han the cold was clearly Leia kissing Luke to make Han Solo jealous and the third kiss was after they rescued Luke hanging from the city it was clearly a kiss of thank God we found you and you're ok but the tension between Leia and Han was always there it was clear as day
Ya people attach way too much meaning to Leia kissing Luke in the infirmary when she was clearly trying to take Han down a peg.
@@ronweber1402 It's american "puritans" ... overreacting ... just like thinking that "pipeweed" in Lord of the Rings means "weed" and not basic tobacco. "Weed" is only a big thing in the USA, not really in any other country (except maybe the Netherlands).
@@Muck006 While I know that pipeweed in the books is tobacco Peter Jackson definitely gave movie pipeweed psychoactive properties that much is clear.
Yeah, people talk about a ‘love triangle’ but there’s nothing of the sort.
You two are so fun to watch!!
Still waiting for part 3 of her reaction to return of the jedi.
4:44 that’ll teach wampa a lesson for clawing Luke’s face.
Good idea!
Everyone in the Theatre was shocked when Darth Vader told Luke who he was,
The Scene with Leia telling Han she loved him was supposed to have Han say He loved her also..
How do you not know about the various mini stories and even the quotes from all these movies?
this movie is...most impressive.
I just realized who the actor is that is playing the command center commander. That's the grumpy American who came to stay at Fawlty Towers. Remember? He wanted a Waldorf salad and a screw driver.
Actor Bruce Boa.
"I want you to go in there and BUST HIS ASS!"
"Im sorry, bust his what?"
"HIS ASS!"
"Oh, right!
Let's just say she's wanted on several systems.
@@movieswithmom First time I've ever heard someone call the Falcon a boat.
Because The Falcon and the Star Destroyers were traveling around so much closer to the speed of light, time would have moved slower for them than for Luke.
Luke seemed to have spent weeks and weeks on Dagobaugh, while only several days seemed to pass for them.
"Star Wars" was released in 1977. Lucas reworked the original trilogy in 1997, adding some CGI and additional scenes; he pronounced them as the definitive versions.
@4:58, I just put this together after all these years. Stupid Little Short Circuit. Sh.... .....it. @24:18, Scott Bakula?
My favorite Star Wars joke: What is the temperature inside of a Tauntaun? Luke warm
"Is Darth Vader really his father?" Remember the scene on Dagobah in the cave, when Luke saw his own face? That should have helped.
“This… is the story… of Star Wars. Let’s begin with part four…” -Peter Griffin.
When Yoda says "No, there is another." That was George Lucas's subtle threat to kill off Luke.

Hello Amanda! 😍
Interesting that Mark Hamill was in a bad car accident during filming and they worked his injuries into the story.
He was in an auto accident after filming the original Star Wars, and when filming began on Empire, Lucas was worried people might wonder about his slight plastic surgery, so they explained it away with the Wampa injury.
