Q: How to get Scentblocks, Zedrenaline, Zombait and Bloater cloud Grenades?
Ans: All these can be crafted from the Advanced Biochem Station facility mod. Biochem station can be acquired from a special trader (Echo Trader) or from "Plague Researcher" mission. There are no ways to trigger the mission and the trader. It is just RNG.
Alternatively, if you are in Trumbull Valley, the landmark outpost can craft all these.
Q: How to make smoke grenades?
Ans: Smoke grenades can be found when looting. It is not a very common loot. But if you want to craft them, it can only be done in the Rural Police Station base in the Meagher Valley map.
I always avoided the Rural Police Station base because how bad the defensive walls are. But now I guess I have no choice but to move to the police station because this is the only place where you can craft smoke bombs

I just rage quit to one of these. I don’t know if I missed the memo, but I didn’t know it would use all my gas immediately and health. Like come on already. What a joke
I went back to this game as I like State of Decay 1 and hardly played 2. It's got a bit of a steep learning curve on Dread difficulty but I eventually built up a solid community with 5 very capable survivors. I had all the plague hearts destroyed bar 1 purple one and it's caused all 5 of my characters to die. You can't drive to it and you can't sneak in because the zeds are running around everywhere to catch you and it throws several ferals at you which is just overkill. I feel like I should have destroyed it with how much ammo I've thrown at it but it's decided to ruin my campaign. A joke is right.
I had a black plauge heart in the WORST spot

In a small room of a giant warehouse
At the bottom of the map with only one direction to get to it

I had a similar problem. But it happened in the first week of the game. So, barely any ammo, no grenades, very little healing. I did have two molotovs, but it was weak to bullets. 🤦♂ Oh, and I'm a noob and it was only my second playthrough. 😱
My enthusiasm for the game took a hit is a bit of an understatement.

@@Waldorf-2020I just picked up the game after a year and was enjoying curve balls in Trumbull Valley when I got a Black Heart in Spencers Mill, effectively shutting me off from the Trumbull Story Quests. Mine is weak to melee and I almost killed two of my gang trying to take it down. I just now had to put the game down from stress lol
Appreciate a lot this new date because these definetly are the hardest obstacle in the game so far. Still, great concept that tests your knowledge to countermeasure it.
The first time time I 3ncounter a black plague heart it drained my fuel in my Caribbean was confused about it and almost died thinking it was going to be easy

Thank you for this video it was extremely helpful especially the cheesy strat. I’ve been stuck on this black heart for a week now and it’s been really difficult especially since zombies kept mutating in that zone 😅. I put some scent blocker and just ran straight at it and blew it up under like 5 mins. 10/10 guide

Chef's kiss for RvidD! I lost one community member and injured 2 severely trying to do the melee without smoke grendades (I had none). 2 zombait and a couple of .50 rounds and it was over in seconds.

Thank you for another great vid. I think you have touched on some of this but i have 3 questions for anybody
1. If i had 2 survivors 1 with sharpshooter and 1 without, who do i give a 50cal and who do i give the good non 50cal?
2. How many 50cal weapons is optimal? I use 1per 3 survivors, or 2 and just mark for exile both (because of 6 render limit)
3. Which guns are actually best for defense and follower? I am loving g18 auto custom with brake and heavy cleo sniper combo. But is there a way to categorize it maybe? (Best 50 cal *heavy sniper, best mid range *g18, best close range devgru etc) so the players can customize personally

If I may make a request, have you done a "how to keep NPCs alive" video yet? That would be my vote for the hardest part of this game. When alone you can always run away or climb on cars or what have you, but the last time I took a follower with me, the first feral pack we came across killed her, despite having maxed out stats and a good weapon. And the last time my player character died, it was because a survivor preferred to fight 90 secs of hordes pouring into the empty farmhouse he was bunking in rather than switch locations.
Yeah I never do dangerous tasks with a follower because they are stupid as hell
I rathe lost one person instead two. Especially going black plague area.
Bringing followers is not a good thing in NZ and LZ. It is highly unpredictable, so a guide for that will be ineffective
@@StateofDecayScience True enough. But that leaves ambient goals where you are supposed to protect a member of a different enclave, like "survivor under siege" and the like. I guess you could just leave them to die, but I'm too much of a softie for that
When we have to protect NPCs, we should play like we are solo in the field. We have to be prepared for that and handle everything mostly ourself!
I think this is just overkill. It is absolutely stupid how fasts it drains the gas of your car
For some reason i ALWAYS get the hypersensitive zombies and the fuel drain. It's a huge grind to even reach it on NMZ. I think i might start using some of the glitches and cheeses from this. I wish we could turn just this specific curveball off because i enjoy the others.
Those 2 are the worst combinations!

I got the Black Heart on Day 2 of a new game. I had nothing to fight it with. And, apparently, they never go away until killed.
I just lost my leader to this thing, it ate 6 c4 charges, 2 soda bombs, 9x 40mm, all my shotgun ammo... I brought as much destruction as I could carry with my best player, and still died. I came here cuz I thought they were invincible without some kind of chem mix or something.

What's pissing me off is the fact that I'm trying to beat my first ever nightmare playthrough. Curveball's turn on every time I enter the game and sometimes I forget to turn them off. This happened when I got the Black Heart. Now I have to deal with it on a difficulty already very challenging to me (especially in the "new" SOD2 amidst all the updates) and there's no way way to opt out of it or turn off curveballs permanently in this game. The way they set it up is fucking stupid and I'm considering just dropping the whole game despite 25 hours being sunk into this file alone!
Call for help, turn down the difficulty until you are ready, or overpack high ordinance and cures and you should be fine. The more you barrel into them with nothing but frustration in mind and you gon have a bad time.

Hello. I tried to apply strat #5 with zombie bait + c4 and it didn't work. I had 2 zombie baits and 2 C4 with me, so I tried twice and it didn't work. In the end I had to kill it with Vector as the black heart was vulnerable to bullets. Update36. Any thoughts on this? Maybe this has already been fixed in 36?
It is not fixed yet. There might be some inconsistencies. Try 50 cal next time since it is easier to use than C4
@@StateofDecayScience I'll definitely give it a try next time. The point is that in your video, the C4 trick looked very simple. For example, the plague heart destruction trick, where you throw a plague zombie, a lighter and then bloater gas granade looks more complicated, but it worked for me the first time. What inconsistencies might there be with the C4, could you elaborate?
I tried it and it worked so maybe you might have missed the zedbait? It’s a bit weird throwing consumables in this game but it should work. Hopefully it did for you I know this reply is sort of late 😅

I have no clue either. But I discovered, both Plague bloater cloud and zombait do the same.
If you have heard about plague bloaters insta killing plague hearts, this is the reason.

You can use 5.56mm or 7.62mm rounds as well with zombie bait glitch
Against black hearts, they sometimes won't be enough!
Hey what do think the best weapons to give a follower is to keep themselves alive at least longer than normal hypothetically away from the base with no help

So what to do if the heart is draining fuel AND the zombies are immune to scentblock? And due to the topography I have to run about 1000 m to get to the heart?
Sensitive zombies will detect you through scentblocks only if they are close. So use it to reach the heart when you are on foot. But don't rely on it when attacking the heart.
I think I explained this pretty well in the video itself.
@@StateofDecayScience Okay, well now only to wait until I get the random quest that gives some scentblock, or a trader with the crafting mod for it. It's been 8 days and I still haven't seen either...
Stop playing the game. This killed the game for me. Zombies hypersensitive and strong, fuel draining is on. Heart is sensitive to explosions but in a small closed off area. I have no access to to smoke grenades scent blocks etc.
Undead labs screwed this up big time and my 8 hour game is now broken and I cannot continue
If you are really struggling you could get like a bunch of stamina items and just full sprint towards the heart and exit and reload the game if any juggernauts or ferals spawn to despawn them
Same for when killing the heart
Reloging the game deletes all enemies

My black heart has another plague heart nearby, it drains gas, has sensitive zeds and is weak to ranged weapons. the problem is this is the first time ive played on dread difficulty and i didnt know how to fight it so i went in by myself with limited ammo( enough to sneak past and destroy the heart i thought) and on foot.
Im a noob and did the same but on standard. Lost origanl soldier and almost died myself but made it back in time for cure.

This is so annoying zombies being able to run super fast and constantly getting hurt and flinching and not being able to run or shoot guns is a big pain. For real seems impossible. Can’t kill them with fire. just put 200 rounds of 7.62 into the heart still standing.
I was able to drive in black plague territory without the gas consumption. Would this be a bug?
No, that particular heart just didn't have the fuel consumption "trait". As far as I know the heart can only have either fuel consumption, spreading or health damage (as well as the zombie modifier).

I don't know which buff it was but there is a buff make smoke grenade don't work. they still can attack you.
The graphics will turn orange even if you are not inside the cloud. Throw it in your safe zone and check out when the graphics turn orange
@@StateofDecayScience Yes, I know. It just doesn't work on my first time with BPH (I'm 100% in the center of the smoke and ferals can still attack me). I use smoke grenades a lot and was surprised that it didn't work. It could be a bug. I will try the smoke grenade again the next time BPH appears.
They attacked you only because they initiated that attack when you were outside. So after the first attack, they won't know where you are.

@@CoffeeMuggee Yep approached carefully, got lucky the zombies that zombies that saw me were alone or just a couple. Scentblock when I got to the more populated areas closer to the heart. Used my survivor that can carry extra stuff to make sure I had whatever possible weakness it had. Tho the location of the heart wasn't bad, I could shoot it with my rifle from the outside (which turned out to be it's weakness) and I exploited a ladder on top of the building to circle back and forth while damaging it with some bullets and explosives. I did it on dread tho so my experience is probably much different from yours.
@@naico144 I have red talon guys so unless I heavily misread the situation, I'm confident that I can make an escape. On the other hand I'm also on lethal so the spawn rate is sure to mess with me twice over. Thankfully I have an outpost inside affected area, just outside the plague heart's affected radius before it turned into a black plague heart, so I have some leeway in approaching it... it's also close the the enclave that can tell me the weakness so that's another plus.
I guess it's more doable than I initially thought, though I'd probably still need to wait for the echo labs trader so I can start making scent blocks.

I let its territory grow like a dumbass cus I thought it was just a lore thing ik stupid so had plenty fuel left and nearly got a survivor killed cus of stupidity
