My mother passed away yesterday morning. I could not ask for a better gift from the UA-cam community ❤❤❤
they… they killed her??
@@b.jr.7816 hah! No, California healthcare killed her. But I get the joke!
Thx for sharing. Soul fly
❤ My heartfelt wish for you is that her essence stays with you and guides you every single day.
I’m so sorry.
This is what I am talking about. Like a flea market record store. Yessir.
Nobody has fleas.
This reminds me of my buddy Ogegeko who I met at Griffith Park. He always had a cassette player with these tripped out vibrational tapes. I feel like he sent me this from heaven. ❤
Those were beautiful days when you could hang out at the park and play frisbee listening to tapes. Now the parks are over run by homeless people and drug addicts. Any person on a bike is a threat rather than someone enjoying a ride. Anyone with a backpack is deemed dangerous. U.S. went from a California dream to a nightmare of collapse. Sociological decline that no one is willing to acknowledge it's so extreme. The paradox or irony is tapes like this one and meditation clear your mind of the clutter so we can be capable of changing this scenario. The U.S. has a scourge of mental illness happening, the majority respond with instant denial ignoring the situation.
Ahhh, I can almost smell the Nag Champa, lavender and mint soaps, and ink on the book pages.
Exactly. 1993 Era South Street in Philadelphia there was a bookstore called "Garland Of Letters" (whatever that means) that smelled just like that.
I purchased countless blue and white boxes of nag champa there
@@Bisconaut Been to that store many times. You're spot on.
Dude I was joking when I clicked. Two hours later and I can't do anything else I'm just sitting here VIBING, wondering how I missed all the new age influence in black metal.
I can't believe how good this is, thank you man I'm so sick of being angry 😂
I used to buy these cassette tapes, like for $12 each 40 years ago!!! Love to hear some Stephen Halpern and Deuter. Not heard those in decades.
The Spa Channel on SiriusXM plays them often.
12 bucks 40 years ago that's a lot!
Isn't it Steven Halpern?

This hits a spot I didn't know I had. It really inspires me to make music again.
do it

They say it can only be fixed with magic
I discovered a whole lot of relaxing music late last year that had the same effect for me - all of a sudden music was exciting again, thank God
Last night I went to bed saying "I really want to play with that reverb pedal" - my son said "It's too late, Dad": virtually the last thing I remember before going off to sleep, heh
Please include the name of the visual artist whose “illumination” laserdisc is being used… His name is KEN JENKINS & he is still making wonderful new visual music in his mid 70’s from Berkeley, CA ~ Thank You for all the good work that you do, Sounds of the Dawn
thanks for saying.. it really bugs me when people use peoples work but don't give clear credit to them (or pay them a penny!)
if they want to use my songs for inspiration for heartfelt stuff please tell them about my song "I Had A Dream" or "I'm Not The Only One".. would be awesome to know what you think of them
Best wishes to you guys

How sweet.

Who is this good looking guy?
@@AntNr511that is Master Ho. He was a friend of mine for many years. He passed away over 10 years ago now. I recorded his Bible class 6 month series. I really miss him. He was a great teacher of crystals, magic, Cameron's aura meter, and more. Big healing smiles
@@reikisk8r ohh thats interesting, may he rest peacefully 🙂↔️🫶
I've been studying the history of HIV/AIDS and there are frequent references to AIDS patients in this era listening to new age cassette tapes with the belief that it would boost the immune systems. I'd never heard what one sounded like until now. Helpful (and eerily soothing) context -- Thank you!
GRID. I think that was the first name given to it before it was better understood.
That era brings up so many emotions for gay men who lived thru it.
Made in a lab right ?
@@FredGSanford. 🙄
It's sad that people today still fall for that pseudoscience garbage. Killed Steve Jobs, Bob Marley, and at least 2 of my friends that took homeopathy, smoked weed, and other junk that didn't do a thing.
In the late 1980's Windham Hill soundtracks permeated our living space with a host of artists like Tim Story, Ray Lynch, Liz Story & maybe some Kitaro in the mix. It was an era of meditation and introspection, trying to find new direction.
Introspection is something the youth don't tap into enough today
it was the new age
lots of cringe 😂 but lots more of awesomeness too
@@P.willowit's coming back. suppress something long enough and it will emerge again. happens every time.
I love all those you just mentioned ❤
Kitaro!❤
Excellent compilation, thank you. It definitely feels like I'm raiding my boomer parents' hippie economy cassette collection.
"All these years, all these memories, there's been you. You. You pull me through time."
i used to listen to Hearts of Space, loved it so much, (many years ago, lol
❤ me too!
Thank you for sharing! My mom used to listen to tapes like this when she did things around the house. It was so odd to me as a kid, but now as an adult I have deep appreciation for soothing sounds.
I am on call for work this week and this music is helping me keep my shit together. Thank you.
"Jenkins, could you mute your audio? I'm hearing some...serene wind chimes...in the background? They're making me feel relaxed and a sense of peace?"
Oh my god, the thumbnail image alone...priceless.
Dude! We are not worthy! God bless
Please do your best to stop using the phrase "We are not worthy"
YOU. ARE. WORTHY.
When you use that phrase, you are effectively undoing the power behind the phrase "God Bless" that you used.
We all need your help in doing your part. Pray for Peace, please.
@@dpclerks09Yes! I agree.
@@dpclerks09- When I hear "We are not worthy!" it reminds me of Wayne & Garth from "Wayne's World" a la SNL. The OP's comment to me seems entirely light-hearted, not to be taken literally as in your judgment of it as contradictory, and if anything your comment takes away the Power of Joy and Laughter.
People who are primarily Literalists miss irony in humor. Unless the OP's comment was fully intended to mean his utter lack of worth ( OP, you can correct me on that ). Between "Dude!", "We are not worthy!" and "God bless" it all appears friendly, self-respecting, and generous. ( IMHO, God has the best sense of humor, sees our hearts, and can work with juxtapositions in our comments just fine. ) In all sincerity, God's Love and Peace to you.
Note worthy 😊
Even though this is from only a few decades ago it feels very ancient and sacred. Thank you!
It's probably the electric synthesizers
If you wait long enough, it will become ancient! Maybe if this is stored properly, someone a thousand years from now will be able to listen to it.
I was just wondering where my new age tape from the 80's was a few days ago and this popped up in my UA-cam suggestions. Guess the cosmos was listening! Thanks for this video! 💗
This is authentic. This is so unlike the AI generated “music” of today.
Legit is half the stuff labelled 'vaporwave' AI because I have suspected a LOT of those acts to be fake for a while now, and if you have anything further I'd love to read it.
@@JF-pl2fh na we not there yet not half. maybe about 15 percent...the difference ...people used to take their time getting to know their synth actually know sound design they where forced too there. those old school synths have a warmth that people still try and replicated today. most music now is made with vsts on computers and thats not the issue in itself. the issue is people not taking their time getting to know the ins and outs of what they are using..just copy and pasting what they learned from a youtube tutorial. instant gratification and dopamine. they dont want to really make art
if u want more like this ana roxanne is a good start.
@@Juline1221 Thanks for laying this out. It makes sense and is a good reminder for me to also get to know things at their core. Beginning with myself
@OscarDamen yes that was my point to hopefully help someone out. The music journey is not a linear one. Def gotta get your mind right doing this because you will have episodes of denial..life events... whatever but u just gotta push thru. Read the vst and daw manuals!!

Anybody remember a cassette from the 80s called astral projection, read by a female doctor and having electronic soothing music in the background? I`ve never been able to find it again. I bought a copy in Amsterdam around `89. Never heard of it since.
was it made by the Monroe Institute?

Just what my heart needed! Thank you for posting this.🤗
This music makes me wish there really was a New Age.
Create your own. 😊
Right, there wasn't a New Age because there will be one, it's yet to come
Oh, but there has been and is, and will be a new age. It was new in the 60's, it's new now, and a new one will be on the horizon. It's a sustained human renaissance. An ever refreshing "Now" moment. It doesn't burn out all at once like before and feels different with every age. Every decade, distinct. Every year, a different story. It's not as flashy, but it's visceral all the same.
Love these, so grateful you have uploaded them
this is just insane - thank you !!
WOW, that was a great time had by all who were activated.

In the 80's, all the people I know that listened to this kind of music were that odd couple with no kids, had strange decorations, wore silk bathrobes, their house smelled funny, and they had a funky expensive waterbed with mirrored ceilings that gave off the pseudo-swinger vibe.

Kiddoes, setting lovely nostalgia aside for a moment, and so you know:
"New Age" was an ill-defined but real genre of music, mostly created in the 1980's, that became a catch-all term for many kinds of music that was composed or improvised, that had a relatively calming effect mentally and emotionally. New Age composition could be almost anything, it all depended on who was into what. There was the minimalist composition movement led by Harold Budd and others, that grew out of John Cage, Musique Concrète, and early explorations with the Moog synthesizer. There was the Wyndam Hill record label, specializing in acoustic ensembles, some with background use of synthesizers, who primarily wrote their own compositions, and explored the possibilities of minimalism applied to jazz and what was called "fusion" jazz. Fusion was another subgenre which explored the possibilities of different ethnic musical types (classical Indian and Brazilian influence were the most popular in the beginning). Pat Methany and Lyle Mays' music were an early example of what grew up out of those experiments. As it became more popularized later, this type grew into the "Smooth Jazz" movement which had about a decade or so of commercial success with albums being sold at oulets like Target. Remember Kenny G? He was a commercial version of that genre in latter days. The early Wyndam stuff was way, way better, IMO, and the Methany Group was head and shoulders above them all.
"New Age" was also born as part of the early "Holistic," body/mind, natural healing movement. These were also the early days of merging electronic keyboards with synthesizers and electronic sampling (see Tangerine Dream), which later evolved into early House, (or Rave) music. And right along side the more rock and pop-oriented phenomena, there was this kind of music we're listening to here: experiments with synthesizer drones and Indian tambours and tabla, combined with sounds recorded in nature, wind chimes, bells, acoustic and electronic instruments, and droning voices. These were the early days of exploring music as an aid to meditation and healing. You could find these kinds of tapes being sold at Holistic Health conventions such as the Whole Earth convention, which was an outgrowth of the earlier hippy staple, the Whole Earth Catalogue. For years these conventions were originally held only on the West Coast, before they proliferated across the continent. I remember well the Brother Charles tape featured at the end of this series -- it was one of the better known recordings of its kind. There were all kinds of little groups and single artists who self-recorded and self-produced in this sub-genre, and then were forgotten.
So the thing to know is that this is just one type of many different types music which was called "New Age." Many of these different branches developed into major section of our present day myriad of genre types, including much of what we call today the countless subgenres of House music.
My gueas is our Dawn friend ,or someone, found a shoebox full of cassette tapes with "New Age" written on the lid, stored in the back of their own or someone else's garage. New Age was a word that meant many different things to many different people.
Thanks for making this music available. A blast from a mostly non-commercial corner of the past. 5 sparklies ✨ and a pink unicorn! 👍
