Here's another way of looking at it; I don't know of any culture that's gone extinct based simply on religious underpinnings (although one might argue that aboriginals have succumbed to western ideologies). Still, most societies are successful regardless of religious alignments, so what does that say about the relevance of doctrine? Remember when churches used to preach that the earth was flat? That changed, yet here we still are.
God doesn't hate anyone, I agree with that :) If you don't love Jesus, I have a feeling He won't force you to be with Him forever. Why would He force you to spend eternity with Him if you never have wanted anything to do with Jesus? That's my take on it. I love God, and I want to be with Him forever. Those who HATE him and rebel against His love, aren't going to be forced to spend eternity in heaven. They can live with their sin and happiness with Satan I suppose. Does that make sense?
