Wow that is a pretty clever mechanism. Well done!
+Kelkschiz Thanks !
+Kelkschiz VERY WELL DONE INDEED!!!
Its a very old principle, i was already doing this 15 yr ago (see my old video)
@@timoonn so ?
timoonn oh my god no shit. Almost every lego creation is based off something REAL.
This is too good, I was playing around with manual 3 speed gearboxes then I saw this...
Finally, a gearbox that I have parts for! Thanks!
I also experimented with automatic gearboxes but none of mine did its joob as good as yours
Real nice work!
Thank you so much !
+Charbel's LEGO TECHNIC Creations Does it sometimes chatter while the gears are between 2 different gear ratios?
+Technic Dragon Yes. I'm currently trying to resolve this problem
Yeah i had the same problem. I´m also trying to solve it :) And I get some nice inspiration from yours`
+Technic Dragon I would like to see instructions please :D
I'm still trying to wrap my head around how this works, but I think I've got it now...
Power is fed though the transmission and into differential piece. Under load, the input and output shaft of the differential want to spin at different speeds. This acts on the grey differential case causing the ring gear of the diff to rotate. That rotation pulls on the arm that controls what gear the transmission is in, and drops the transmission into a lower gear.
It's quite an elegant setup. Kudos!
It gears down on load, but at cost of losing power to stretching the rubber band. There is a better solution with wormgear locking and torsen comparator of torque, but it takes so many space, that it's unusable in real lego cars. And there is a lot of friction in gearbox, so IMO just two motors with different gears combined thru differential is better option.
@@ShirixaeNaEoshahnIm only 15 can you try explaining it to me or maybe recommend me a good video to understand the method you talked about
@@1Life4Passion Which one? Differential multiplier? In normal case you use differential as divider of torque: it has input gear and two outputs (left and right or front and rear). But you also can use it to feed two motors on one shaft. For example, you can use 3:1 gear reduction on one end, 1:3 on another and collect summary torque and speed from differential body. Speed and torque will be floating between 3:1 and 1:3 depends on load, but it will not be as much efficient, as simple mechanical gearbox.
I can’t open the file. But the gearbox looks pretty great
Beautifully simple and effective design. Well done.
Very well done! It's compact, works well, and the video is very well filmed
i often think that these type of automated gearboxed are impractical to use in a actual i think this one will stand out with a awsome shifting mechanism and a cool video ;)
good job!
Thanks !
Charbel's LEGO TECHNIC Creations instructions dont work can you fix them
Your gearbox is one od The few real gearboxes on TY. Most of them are just torque converters or differencials. Nicely done with the self adjusting gears on The basis of a differencial.
I leave this under every video I watched, it helps the algorithm.
Very good and well made I also modified it myself for a 2 speed low range high torque version and many other cool mechanisms using the differential ideas well done.
This is weary cleaver thinking! It is defenitly one of the most simple auto transmissions I have seen, build in LEGO
Could you provide the building instructions, so I can build this an put it on my 8*8 scale truck :)
I can't open instructions pls make it PDF or smtng like that
LEGO Технарь I can’t too
Same
If you want to build it you need lego digital designer
Use pc download LDD
Pause it and build it, easy peacy.😃
This is definitely an interesting design, although if the transmission depends on resistance in the output to shift, I'd recommend reversing the gear ratios. Resistance would likely be caused by an obstacle, and you'd want more torque instead of speed to overcome it.
The way the gear box works is that it starts in 3rd gear, as resistance effects the output, it down shifts to second, as more resistance effects it, it down shifts to 1st
The output shaft is actually the one wich has the differential/torque sensor, and if you look right the imput shaft is the one wich mooves back and forth. The imput shaft is the one wich is connected directly with the motor.
When the gear box senses an obstacle automatically switches to a lower ratio wich has more torque. All is right in this design.
Well done Charbel
Basically, it is not real gearbox. All energy, that should transfer to the output upon load, is used to stretch and maintain the rubber string.
Чувак, это гениально!!!!
@Charbel's LEGO TECHNIC Creations...I'm fascinated of this gearbox, cause I always wanted to build a automatic gearbox👌👍🤟. It's also working perfectliy in your video, but as I was so impressed, I build it after the instructions and it came out, that the gearing is ver ''cracky'' and it's always making crunchy sounds when switching gears. Could you make a new automatc 3-speed (compact) gearbox which doesn't makes does sounds when switching gears? Would be very nice from you👍.
PS: You've got one subscriber more👍.
Nice build like the torque
THIS.
This is genius.
This is ideal for rc lego cars that need to be fast!
This is amazingly simple and effective!
+Audiultra Robotics Thanks !
the hard part is finding a suitable rubber band lol
HoneyDane yeah i got the same problem either its to strong or to weak
Gearboxes? More? Very cool :-)
Solid design! Very cool :-)
You are everywhere!
Yeah
you are a genius!
good design. but i think u need replace that rubber band with lego spring, to make it 100% lego part
+ilham Defra There are genuine lego issue elastics. They came with some of the early bionicles, for instance (borak)
+ilham Defra The rubber band probably came from a lego set! :)
+Ilham Defra i think it is a loom band (i use them too because they are very cheap)
the bionicle 2015 set called the Lord of Skull Spiders also comes with a elastic band
what rubber bend did you use?
This is amazing in 2021
Nice! I've also made a 3-speed automatic trans. It works in a different way, but does a similar job!
I managed to make it a bit more compact, just tell me if you want to see some pictures.
The concept is genius btw

+jumper0122 Oh I've never done a youtube video before but I guess I could. I currently have it dissmantled but I can rebuild it. Will take some time thought since I have a lot going on in school right now. It's nice to see that someone shows interest :)
+Anton Adelöw Thanks! I'm pretty interested
+jumper0122 Very nice to hear :)
very clever mechanism tho
I may have an idea to turn this into a cvt. Use the same differential resistance sensing system and attach it to the mover on the cvt.
Does it have a lot of torque and power?
What are the gear rations?
I really like it
i made one like this before. looks great functions well i like it
Very very cool
…the music tho
How old are you? btw Your video quality is awesome!
I'm 14.
+Charbel's LEGO TECHNIC Creations Ok. Thanks for answering
+Clas Käck Damn! You did a bang up job! Solid design...
+Charbel's LEGO TECHNIC Creations I'm 14 too! How much Lego do you have?
Who is the link for building instructions? I can't found them. And sry I'm from german. I can't speak english so good
I made a 4 speed manual with auto clutch but it doesn't fit in my 24 hours car could I have the instructions for yours plz ill give u the credit for the design
Free instruction on my channel !
....dude....instructions were in the description....-_-
if you know the name of the song used without looking at the description, you breath the same air as me.
im creating a dragster for a robotics class in school and waz wondering if i connect it to a differential if your gear box would be anh benefit?
Maybe you should post an instruction video
Instructions in description
Free instruction on my channel ! That one is paid
This is genius
Very good.
Does this transmission grind gears very much?
as soon as it starts maxing out in 1st and switches to 2nd wouldn't it just go right back to first then keep switching between? once it switches to 2nd there's no resistance keeping the rubber band from pulling it back to first so it would be an endless cycle
Would you kindly convert these to pdf files
Man, please, please make tutorial for it, this link doesen't open
Nice one
I Tried building this bug the instructions break the laws of phisics
galaxy brain build
How about 4 or 5 speed? After that people can build automatic gearbox car!
Now I just need your help putting that into the lego rally car or the 4x4 exatream
You said in the comments "this would never work for a car or something" A lego car or a an actual car?? Is there any way I can get instructions that I can actually view?? I haven't been able to view the ones you linked.....
You need the lego digital designer program
Is anyone gonna attempt the planetary gear arrangement?
No
Yeh... idk
who needs instructions when you can build it from the vedio😎
Having trouble with the gears getting stuck in between 2-3. The gears don’t engage quick enough and the transmission gets stuck in neutral. Good design just wish their was more reliable shifting
You could make it longer and space the gears out more, that normally works for me.
What do you mean "neutral"?
@@idotic_kid it doesn’t have a neutral gear, but the lack of gears engaging makes the input spin without spinning the output, and there is nothing that can fix it besides changing the friction on the output. I made this transmission into a car and going up a hill it would get stuck in between gears
It might be the rubber band itself? experiment with stiffer or looser bands and see what you get?
really good👏🏻👍🏻
Thanks !
Why can't i open the instructions file
I LOVE THIS SONG. GR8 video!
amazing
making a lesson on how to build a gearbox
I LOOOOOVE IT!!! AMAZING!
Omg!!! Fantastic!!
Have you tried to apply this auto gearbox to a technic car?
Jo could you Do a download that is function i can t open this
So, could you switch the output to be the input so it can get faster instead of it going slower?
Awesome!
Wow, that's genious
Perfect👌🏽
your file is corrupted, 5 parts cannot be loaded and LDD is end of life and does not connect to internet anymore
Wow that's clever
My question is what kind of load can it handle and still be able to up shift. Want to build an auto matic for the lego adventure truck with tracks but im afraid it require to much drive load for an automatic to work like i want.
It is on 3rd gear by default. What if you inverse the differential and out the rubber-band at the opposite side, so it would on 1st gear by default? Or inverse the order of gears.
I assembled this gear-box using your design. I works. Actually I appreciate you job. And I am curious, can it be modified to be more realistic: a car will start with the lower gear and switch to upper gear when it gets more speed.
As for me, I already disassembled it in order to try other gearbox designs on practice.
great!
can you make a lets build please???
it seems a good gearbox but when i go to get the instructions it says i dont have an app to open the files. what should i do?
wow it works good
thanks
Here is the ratio of the three gears because this guy wouldn't put it in.
Highest gear: 1 : 1
Middle gear: 9 : 25
Lowest gear: 1 : 5
Why the instructions take me to one of my games ???!!!!!I really want then someone that can help me 😩
If there can't be a pdf is there an android app for viewing?
How in the world do i view the instructions??????
cool gearbox but does it result in a loss of power and tourqe? btw what rubber bands do you use?
rainbow loom
S.P in the nerf sniping city
me too!!!
YA,
The instructions won't download
I can't open instructions! Help me !
You need the lego digital designer program
Free instruction on my channel !
Can you make a 9 speed version?
Wow just wow
great! i love it except that i can figure out the instructions! it comes up as a picture not a manual or pdf
+Kai Zwarg It's a 3D file, you can open it with Lego Digital Designer. Otherwise I advise you to build my new gearbox which is much better, and more useful.
thank you, but is it the same size? i am fitting it to my 24hr race car and need it to be in these dimensions. thank you though for the info on the file type.
also is it an automatic? that would be really useful!
+Kai Zwarg Actually It's a sequential gearbox. You really need to know something : LEGO automatic gearbox works just in theory. It would never work in a car or somethings else. I really advise you to go for a sequential gearbox. You will find a few examples in my channel.
I am trying to figure this out so thank you! I will post a video of the complete thing soon!
Great mechanism, but I think having a drive ring and clutch would prevent any gears from grinding.
Smooth
What if I can't Get to LDD?
It is good for race car???
But does it really work on practic? Sorry for my english
No, it jut work in theory.
Please instruction for pdf or english language
Video Instructions?
Instructions please
Do you use this on any of your builds?
+Ginko Weed No
I hate to be that guy, but tutorial please!! 😭🙏
Could you make this a pdf?
