    I'm still trying to wrap my head around how this works, but I think I've got it now...
    Power is fed though the transmission and into differential piece. Under load, the input and output shaft of the differential want to spin at different speeds. This acts on the grey differential case causing the ring gear of the diff to rotate. That rotation pulls on the arm that controls what gear the transmission is in, and drops the transmission into a lower gear.
    It's quite an elegant setup. Kudos!

    • @ShirixaeNaEoshahn
      @ShirixaeNaEoshahn 2 роки тому

      It gears down on load, but at cost of losing power to stretching the rubber band. There is a better solution with wormgear locking and torsen comparator of torque, but it takes so many space, that it's unusable in real lego cars. And there is a lot of friction in gearbox, so IMO just two motors with different gears combined thru differential is better option.

    • @1Life4Passion
      @1Life4Passion 10 місяців тому

      @@ShirixaeNaEoshahnIm only 15 can you try explaining it to me or maybe recommend me a good video to understand the method you talked about

    • @ShirixaeNaEoshahn
      @ShirixaeNaEoshahn 10 місяців тому

      @@1Life4Passion Which one? Differential multiplier? In normal case you use differential as divider of torque: it has input gear and two outputs (left and right or front and rear). But you also can use it to feed two motors on one shaft. For example, you can use 3:1 gear reduction on one end, 1:3 on another and collect summary torque and speed from differential body. Speed and torque will be floating between 3:1 and 1:3 depends on load, but it will not be as much efficient, as simple mechanical gearbox.

    This is definitely an interesting design, although if the transmission depends on resistance in the output to shift, I'd recommend reversing the gear ratios. Resistance would likely be caused by an obstacle, and you'd want more torque instead of speed to overcome it.

    • @rednecktractors10
      @rednecktractors10 5 років тому +2

      The way the gear box works is that it starts in 3rd gear, as resistance effects the output, it down shifts to second, as more resistance effects it, it down shifts to 1st

    • @ezequielsanuy8895
      @ezequielsanuy8895 Рік тому +1

      The output shaft is actually the one wich has the differential/torque sensor, and if you look right the imput shaft is the one wich mooves back and forth. The imput shaft is the one wich is connected directly with the motor.
      When the gear box senses an obstacle automatically switches to a lower ratio wich has more torque. All is right in this design.

    @Charbel's LEGO TECHNIC Creations...I'm fascinated of this gearbox, cause I always wanted to build a automatic gearbox👌👍🤟. It's also working perfectliy in your video, but as I was so impressed, I build it after the instructions and it came out, that the gearing is ver ''cracky'' and it's always making crunchy sounds when switching gears. Could you make a new automatc 3-speed (compact) gearbox which doesn't makes does sounds when switching gears? Would be very nice from you👍.
    PS: You've got one subscriber more👍.

    as soon as it starts maxing out in 1st and switches to 2nd wouldn't it just go right back to first then keep switching between? once it switches to 2nd there's no resistance keeping the rubber band from pulling it back to first so it would be an endless cycle

      @@idotic_kid it doesn’t have a neutral gear, but the lack of gears engaging makes the input spin without spinning the output, and there is nothing that can fix it besides changing the friction on the output. It is on 3rd gear by default. What if you inverse the differential and out the rubber-band at the opposite side, so it would on 1st gear by default? Or inverse the order of gears.
    I assembled this gear-box using your design. I works. Actually I appreciate you job. And I am curious, can it be modified to be more realistic: a car will start with the lower gear and switch to upper gear when it gets more speed.
    As for me, I already disassembled it in order to try other gearbox designs on practice.
