  • UNDERFLOOR HEATING INSTALLATION - Step by Step install. How to install Radiant Floor Heating. Plumber showing how to install underfloor wet heating. today I'm going to do underfloor heating. So, I'm going to do a step by step guide on how to install underfloor heating. Also, how to order it, and where you can order it from as well. First of all, what I've done, I've just done a drawing, like this. And then I've sent this off to a company, Beneath Heat. And Beneath Heat have sent me an installation pack out, and you can buy this from your local merchant. when you buy the kit.
And when you get this kit, it comes with a full drawing. It gives you all your flow rates, all your centres, and what you need to do the job. So, what we'll do now, we'll have a look at some of the components that we need with this, and then we'll install it down on the floor. We'll put the pipe in, we'll put the pump manifold on and we wire it up. And we'll do all the stuff we need, so it'll be fully step by step. So, after this video, you'll know how to install your own underfloor heating. All right, let's have a look now.
First of all, we've put the drawing up on the wall here. This drawing shows us where the manifold goes, and it shows us all the centres and where we need to put the pipes. We've got the board. This is a retrofit system, so we've got a concrete floor. I don't want the floor to rise up too much, so I've got this. It's a little bit like King Span, and then what we do with that is we put the pipes in here. So, we'll fit that in a few minutes.
We've got the pipes, and the pipe comes on coils. This one's 80 metres. Some edging strips for when it goes around corners as well. So, again, we'll fit that. And then we've got the manifold. I'll fit that on the wall as well shortly. Also, we're going to put this onto an S-plan. So, I'll show you how to do this as well.
This is a combi boiler this, and what we need to is so that we can control this, we need to put it onto an S-plan. So, I'll show you that as well. Let's have a look.
First of all before we connect the underfloor heating, what I've done is I've made the system into an S-plan system. What we've got here, we've got our flow. This flow comes up from the boiler. This zone valve here, this connects for the other circuit, for the central heating circuit that I've got in the other room. And then I've put a zone valve in here, and this is for the underfloor heating as well. I'm going to put the manifold on here now, so I'll show you that.
We've got an installation guide with this, and it shows us how ... well, it shows us the height that we need to go. So, it shows you the manifold on there. Also shows you how to cut the pipe. Shows you about the fittings as well that we've got, which I'll show you them shortly.
When we look at the manifold, one thing that's really good with this is if you wanted, you can undo these caps and you could put the pump on the other side. So, you could have this, if you have your pipes coming up at a tight corner, of this side, or wherever you want, you can adjust it to suit. So, that's another good thing.
So, I'm going to put this on this world here now. It needs to be, as I say, about 400 mm high. Mine's not going to be quite 400 really, to be honest, but the installation instructions say 400. So, we'll put that on here now.
One thing to point out with this manifold, I fixed the manifold now. If later on, you decided you wanted to add to this manifold, then you could just undo these nuts out on the ends, and you could extend the manifold. And like this is in a corner here, you could just put a new manifold on the wall there.
We're now going to refer to the plans here, and we see we've got the manifold there, and now we're going to put the boards on the floor to this plan. So, we've got the board here, I'm going to start with the boards now.
The first job, sweep the floor, give it a really good sweep. If you're an electrician, you might need to watch a UA-cam video just on how to do that, but yeah, give the floor a good sweep. Just laid all the panels out here, and then I'm just going to cut this. In the instructions, it says that you can cut this with a Stanley knife. I'm going to use this, I'm just going to use a grinder, to be honest. But yeah. Just screwing all these boards down now.

I Think Allen did mentioned it's a combi boiler and he made it into 2 zone valve, one for the heating and other for the UFH and said it's an S Plan, so the other zone valve would have a wiring centre, programmer and room thermostat to control the other zone separately.
And this centre what Allen was wiring is just for the UFH and the switch live can got to the other wiring centre and from that centre to the boiler or going straight to the boiler, just like same as all S Plan system and that's the beauty of it.
I might be wrong, but that's what I get to understand watching this video.
Allen made some of us confused here not showing the final steps of the wiring to the boiler and the other zone valve, but he works hard to show us and that's a beauty of Allen in heart.
    Thank you Allen

Great Video explaining each step. Have watched the entire vid, but you’ve missed out the connection for the 2nd 2-port zone valve. By the look of things, you may need 2 wiring centres to control the different zones. If that’s the case, would it not be more logical to use one wiring centre?
However, if you have wiring diagram for 2nd zone in the Saswell wiring centre, then that would be great.

Pumping from cold water store, through the coil, round the system under the sleeping area, then into hot water storage.

Great vid. I have moved to a bungalow that has underfloor heating throughout and its great. Only question is zone 8 on the heatmiser uh3 is set to override so when triggered by the thermostat it opens yhe valve on the manifold but does not trigger the boiler. I can switch override off on the heatmiser unit so it will trigger the boiler for zone 8, but just wondered why it was set like this. Zone 8 is the hallway and small toilet that houses the manifold and miser.

    Great video.....
I have a ‘vented’ system, the plumber has suggested changing this to a pressurised system, as this will be better for underfloor heating, claiming that he cannot connect to the existing circs, for the proposed underfloor heating to a new extension.
The extension is 28sq mts and is attached to an existing room of 26sq mts. This room has now had all joists removed and replaced with a concrete base. The whole area of 55sq mts with have 110 insulation and underfloor heating. I want to have hot and cold taps, in a toilet, at the far end of the extension. Is this why he suggested pressurising the whole system. And, can pressurising an existing vented system cause leaks later down the the line? Can he T’ off the existing 22mm circs for the underfloor pipework?
    Hope you can help.
    Regards

Great educational video, thanks a lot. I'm having a question regards this. I'm having 130 m^2 floor, and I'm planning to cover it with 13 circuirts, open loops system without actuators and buffer tanks. How can I be sure that my pump can drive all od the circuits well. My pump can maintain flow 25,8 L/min for delta 5 at 35 degrees celsius and it is variable speed pump with 32/102 input / output watts. Can I go with a single manifold or I need to split the instalation on multiple manifolds?

Hi Allen. Thanks for the video. What made you choose this size pipe instead of 16mm. Will this provide same heat output. I'm installing this system in my brothers house shortly, have only ever done 16/15mm systems with clip system and then 100mm screed

Do you only need to fit actuators to the manifold if you're splitting the system into zones?

Really good video, but I would point out that it is against the regulations to use an earth core on a cable as a live conductor, even if sleeved, it is better to get a 4-core cable, as all live cables must also have an accompanying earth.

Good informative video. We are planning to get overlay in our house. What would be the plumber fee for setting it up? We have about 100 sqm. Thank you

Hi Allen, I'm installing a small UFH heating system (3 zones) and a wet towel rail in a small 1 bedroom house I'm building. Do I need 2 motorised valves to make an S plan system. I'd like the towel rail to be on a time clock separate to the UFH. If you can let me know I'd appreciate it mate. Thank you.

Hi can we use two different pipe sizes with same manifold using an adapter. I'm thinking for using a 16mm pipe for my kitchen which has a larger area and 12mm pipe in hallway with wood floor which i will take out n install 60mm insulation between 100mm joists.

Hi great Video but can you please tell me where the boiler wire from wiring Center connects in boiler
Also I have a nest controlling my radiators do I need to have a separate thermostat for under floor heat.
    Thanks

Great video, i installed a heat miser 4, but i am getting a back feed from the pump on the ufh to the central heating pump, the heat miser doesn't seem to have relays to prevent this. this creates a problem, for me, the boiler itself has connections for the pump, which continues to run for 5 mins odd to cool down heat exchanger. I was going to not use the pump connection and just use the motorised valve to control the pump. But i am now thinking i need to use some switch gear namely a couple of relays and a timer. I am just wondering is there a simpler solution? regards, Peter

Hi Alan, I have laid down the heating after watching your video for more than 10 times. The heating system supplied by Beneath Heat has electronic actuator controls. Which you have not installed in this video. Secondly, the thermostat doesn't work even after connecting it with the wiring center. It does turn ON, but don't know how to get it programmed to control the three zones. Can you help me.

hi could you advise me if i could get this slim ufh system on the first floor bathroom with an existing maniflow already in the ground floor, i have a feed alread running from that ready but wanted to use something that does not require screed as its on the first floor.

Hi Allen good video, question is could you just remove the wall radiator and connect the under floor piping the the feed and return
for the wall radiator? or is this just a stupid question.

Hey morning, does anyone know if the boiler internal pump and UF manifold pump will start to work against each other when both radiator and UF circuit are running? I’m presuming that the UF pump is a modulating type? I’m not sure tho.
    Cheers

Great video, The bit that wasn't clear to me was how this all connects to the boiler in conjunction with the other zone valve and the other room being able to call for heat. Does the boiler have 2 sets of wires coming into it from 2 different wiring centres? and either can call for heat?

Yes ... That should be it .. the other rooms would have another stat with another wiring center ... to be controlled individually, he might have other type of heating in the other rooms ... He can heat one zone differently to the others .. that's the whole beauty of it ...

with underflorr systems is there a wieght limit that they can handle or does it not matter ? e.g if you had a gym room or a room with lots of heavy stuff .... ?

For multiple rooms how should go out to each and return to the manifold? Along the edge and back the same edge?

I have noticed that you didn't screed. I want to finish my basement and make it full finish basement. is there a reason why you applied the tile directly? do people have to use screed if you are installing the heating underfloor in a basement?
