It's strange how Firebird always stayed in shade of Les Pauls and SGs. I mean...you just look at one of those and first thing comes to mind is "that's rock'n'roll baby'.
+MrCorvusC also they are just really awful in feel I sold muine for and sg after a month it was just horrid no matter how cool they look they just don't play all that good
+RebelWolf8U - I respectfully disagree but with the rider that I had to change out the stock pups for Antiquitys- I use mine for slide work-- sounds great (Orange 35 Crush/ Fender Twin + Giggity + Mosfet - oooh aaaaah!.
+Roтary - each to his own- I have owned an Explorer- great guitar but not user friendly to mike stands- or anything that was 6 inches behind me. Havent used the Firebird on stage but there is less overhang. For me, guitars r like cars- buy a Roller, and its a dud; buy a mini and it hums along with no breakdowns. Its a matter of individual style and taste.
the man to designed this guitar also designed the firebird car. the tuning heads where invented for this guitar as the designer of the guitar wanted smooth lines and edges.
7:21 That's what made me want to get a firebird. I'm a rhythm guitarist with a bit of lead here and there, and I love a firebird for both distorted and clean settings. I have a Fender strat that I love for surf and funk, but with the Firebird I can get both tones down and have a bit of drive on the side. Thank you guys for the video, it's awesome!
Moderne - 1957 Flying V - 1958 Explorer - 1958 The Moderne didn't actually go into production until 2012. The Flying V was the first one on the market. And the Explorer started its life as a Futura but they made some final tweaks to that body before releasing it. The Explorer was taken out of the catalog for a while as it was deemed too outlandish of a shape, it wasn't brought back till 1976 which is why we have a '76 reissue Explorer. Damn it boys do a video with an Explorer!
Chris Crow A song by velvet revolver. It's one of the more popular ones. You should be able to find it pretty fast if you just look up Velvet Revolver on spotify or youtube
+Andres Castillo I was watching the video and as soon as I saw Rob's face in that moment I came down to the comments because I knew people would be talking about it.
Gentlemen, this is without a doubt the very best review you have done to date (1/4/2018)!!! The introductory jam was what rock-n-roll is aaaalllll about! I want hear more like it! Thank you so much!
I don't remember when the Flying V came out. But fun fact, Jimi Hendrix Europe Tour was almost all played on a Flying V. You can actually hear the difference between the Europe Tour in 67 and 70, and his studio records. Another fun fact, Jimi Hendrix traded the Les Paul for the Stratocaster because of the Tremolo bar, as Eric Clapton once said in an interview. While he traded the Stratocaster in exchange for the Flying V because of it's firepower. Isn't it ironic? Also, some years ago, 2009 I believe, I don't remember. Gibson released a Flying V custom shop guitar that was the Jimi Hendrix Flying V model, in the exact painting that he toured Europe in '67. And it looked amazing. I'd love to see a review of this guitar.
LOL fucking what?!? Hendrix didn't trade playing a Les Paul for a strat. He was a Fender player long before the JHE & didn't own a Les Paul until he was looking for a replacement for the V.
Way too much fuzz on a firebird... they have no clue.. as usual. Sweet home alabama was a strat, Free bird was a firebird. ... and why are they playing ACDC ?
green323turbo it doesn't matter. They're having a good time. It doesn't matter wether the songs were played on strats or les Paul's. Let them do whatever the hell they want
Its funny cuz you have chappers who's like a massive rocker and then you have cap10 lee who's like the guy you would never imagine with a firebird playing rock music lol.
During that intro, all I could think was, "FUCK YES......I like these guys." xD that is definitely a guitar that you rock out with FIRST and talk LATER
They make a limited edition Pelham Blue Firebird that you can get new for around $399 and if you don't like that color you can find older ones on ebay for about $300.
***** I have an Epiphone Firebird studio in worn cherry. Soooo good and even all my other friends love it. Sounds pretty good but the build and finish is great and it feels so nice to play, no regrets
alex mallen The thing is Alex, I've always seen bands, especially the Foo Fighters switch from using Les Pauls & Teles to Firebirds & Explorers for there heavier songs Even in video comparisons between LP's and FB's the Birds seem to sound like they have more output, but I'd like to know for sure
choplass I think it has less to do with the output and more with the tonal spectrum of these guitars. Les Pauls and Teles are better equipped for a warm, full, woolly sort of tone (although tele's do have a really sharp high end, but they sound twangier), which combined with high gain sounds better in blues, rock and hard rock, while the firebirds and explorers are brighter sounding and give sharper sounds under high gain, which is the typical tone preferred by metalheads. Of course, you are free to use any guitar for any genre. If you know your equipment, you can make it sound right most of the time.
Wow, you guys had mega fun on this one! I'm definitely convinced now - I will need to own a 2018-19 Firebird!!! (I hear the beautiful cherryburst is back!)
since the 60's we've had the ibanez iceman and the extremely similar fireman, the bc rich stealth, the jackson king v, the dean ml, my personal favorite, the ibanez xiphos, off the top of my head. those are some of my favorites.
Love Firebirds, my favorite Gibson . I have the cheaper USA made studio version with the mini humbuckers but standard grover tuners and set neck. It's nice but I like these with the set neck and new tuners. Saw Johnny Winter this week. If you get a chance go see him. He was still great even though he's not in good health . Played his old firebird with his amazing slide skill.
I've watched this video soo many times, and every time I always come back for Captains face at 1:06 along with a master class in blues/classic rock guitar playing
Being very fender biased i never really found a Gibson that i knew i would use. I borrowed a friends Les Paul for a week while he was on vacation maybe played it once. I just loved the feel of my telecaster more. Then I picked up an Epiphone version of the firebird and didn't put it down for 2 hours it was way too much fun. In my collection i have both a fire bird and Thunderbird i absolutely love them! and for anyone who doesn't like them your really missing out on a amazing guitar.
This video made me bought this guitar and this is really a great instrument i don't regret this at all really nice looking and a great song, perfect guitar and BADASS
The opening is the most enjoyable playing I've heard from these two. More music, less noodling. Johnny Winter said he thought of the FBird as playing like a Gibson but sounding like a Fender i.e. treblier.
It's always great to see the Captn and Chappers having a blast during the reviews. The tuning heads are made by Steinburger and are advertised to have a 40:1 gear ratio. Btw, the Flying V and Explorer came out in 1958, with the ES-335, Les Paul in Cherry, and the ES-1235.
I really just can't get into the look of these guitars but my god they sound like butter. Literally one of the best sounding guitars I've ever heard. Maybe it's the amp guitar combo, I don't know but goodness gracious it sounds amazing
12:33 D'you know what? I was talking to a friend about this, the guitar designs from the 60's that have rarely been bettered;, I'm a Les Paul player and have dabbled in Strat's and Tele's and my opinion was that the ML3 was one of the new guitars that really stands out as something that really has hit the nail on the head in terms of offering something that does everything you need whilst being incredibly well designed, easy and fun to play. They are incredible machines.
Amazing watching this again, for the 30th time at least, & I couldn't help but notice how much tuning they're NOT doing with these FIREBIRDS. Having watched so many of their GIbson LEs Paul/SG Mini-Etune & other auto tuner guitar videos, where they have to "robo tune" multiple times, it speaks volumes as to how well the FIREBIRD is designed by virtue of the fact that they do not have to retune these guitars throughout the video.
the phrase "shut up and take my money" has never been more applicable
True
Has been, these guitars look terrible.
EllipticalGaming But they sound kick ass :)
+EllipticalGaming Thanks for straightening us all out--we all now think the guitars look terrible (non reverse would probably make you retch).
+EllipticalGaming Well, the design dates back to 1963 and it was done by coachbuilder/car design legend Ray Dietrich.
It's strange how Firebird always stayed in shade of Les Pauls and SGs. I mean...you just look at one of those and first thing comes to mind is "that's rock'n'roll baby'.
Why I own a thunderbird
Its cause Hendrix, slash, young, page, Van Halen used strats, les Pauls and sgs.

Best captain/Chappers jam session ever!
The moment that rob displayed the bridge Pick-up and lee started dancing that absolutey made my day!
13:40 The Captain doing crazy Slash´s riffs and Rob says: WTF??? XD priceless!!
will angeltkd what song is it?
Slither - Velvet Revolver my friend!
Thanks :)
I think he was more surprised about how fast captain tuned down but that is an awesome song
will angeltkd ii
Captains tone wins the day! I have a red 1990 firebird which is my prize possession
Best chappers and captain jam ever!
I've been watching your videos for a while now, and this is the first time I've been really impressed by Mr.Captain! That guy's come far! Sick Licks!
Always picture Allen Collins with his original Firebird whenever I see one of these...great looking guitars!
Yep
+Dagger 323 I always picture Tommy DeVito from the Four Seasons playing "Sherry" on the Firebird.
+cesarmanuel51 oh yeah, definitely
Yes, exactly I think of AC when I see a firebird for sure......I suppose Clapton in his cream days and Johnny winter also.
EPstroker yeah Johnny Winter and Allen Collins are the two I most associate playing a Firebird.
in regards to the post 60s era guitars, the fender telecaster deluxe models came out in the 70s and have really held their own.
This seriously seems like the best place to work. Ever.
the man to designed this guitar also designed the firebird car. the tuning heads where invented for this guitar as the designer of the guitar wanted smooth lines and edges.
I bought a Gibson Firebird three years ago.....best money I ever spent! I love it!
I never get tired watching the dual at the beginning of this video from these firebirds, they sound so awesome.!!!!!!!
Press '6' on your keyboards over and over again to hear the Captain rap about the super pokey-ness of guitars and amps!
Chappers is saying "damn right" with his eyes
Bossness123 if you double the speed its awesome
I think my PC runs at a constant 0.5 frames per second, so I can't do double speed

If I buy one will u throw in a Pontiac firebird too??
Moderne - 1957
Flying V - 1958
Explorer - 1958

What is the song at 5:08 called? It sounds awesome!
Love the strap the captain's using. It holds the guitar up fine... just made me smile
13:36 I jizzed so hard from the captain playing metal
+Andres Castillo I'm not sure velvet revolver counts as metal
Chris Mortlock don't ruin it
+Andres Castillo What song were they playing?
Chris Crow A song by velvet revolver. It's one of the more popular ones. You should be able to find it pretty fast if you just look up Velvet Revolver on spotify or youtube
+Andres Castillo I was watching the video and as soon as I saw Rob's face in that moment I came down to the comments because I knew people would be talking about it.
These old videos are the best, the tone, the playing, the fun. I dig :)
Man, how much coffee did they have before this haha
I'm just wondering what's that white stuff lined up on the couch arm?
These guys have a good vibe about their work:guitars everything. Thumbs up guys.
It's like watching Wayne's world
Gentlemen, this is without a doubt the very best review you have done to date (1/4/2018)!!! The introductory jam was what rock-n-roll is aaaalllll about! I want hear more like it! Thank you so much!
This video wins the internet..... on so many levels.
Possibly the best tone I've ever heard from you guys. Kudos and cheers!
I don't remember when the Flying V came out. But fun fact, Jimi Hendrix Europe Tour was almost all played on a Flying V. You can actually hear the difference between the Europe Tour in 67 and 70, and his studio records. Original korina flying v's were released in '58 then production ended, and it was re introduced in 1967 with a mahogany body. if im not mistaken.
LOL fucking what?!? Hendrix didn't trade playing a Les Paul for a strat. He was a Fender player long before the JHE & didn't own a Les Paul until he was looking for a replacement for the V.
The Flying V came out in'58 also the explorer came out in '58
Still watching in 2017 simply because of 1:43
Probably my favorite Chappers-Captain jamming moment of goodness ever.
3:00
Censoring makes everything worse, even the normal movements...
For me it´s one of your best vids. PLEASE more of this.....
Those headstocks are beautiful.
I love the look of firebirds so much, and that tone, THAT TONE! Love it! Gotta get me one asap!!
like for captain's firebird djent.
Best Intro jam I've seen you guys do...AWESOME Rock'N'Roll!!!
Gotta love the Firebird!! Cheers
Can you do a review on the Gibson explorer? I can't decide between this or the explorer. I would really appreciate a review.
I'd buy one and finance the other 😎👌🔥
The Brian May Red Special. Built in the 60's though. Awesome guitar..
3:46 One Metallica
In fact, best jam session ever from you guys. These Firebirds look redonkulous! Sweeeeeeeeeeet!
You guys are a riot! I always love watching your reviews because in no way do you color the reviews and they are not bias.
Who else has watched this video more than five times
Me. I just love the playing at the start.
I didn't even watch it once all the way through. Horrible mis-match of tones. Blues with hi-gain metal tone doesn't sound good.
Let them do whatever the hell they want
oh, i don't care what they do, they just think their amusing... not
This is 2018 and this still their best jam to date, SO MUCH ROCK AND ROLL!
is that not the most badass guitar shape you've ever seen? even beats explorer
+V10 FSI It is most certainly. I have a Thunderbird and it's sooooooo beautiful. This video does no justice to just how beautiful it is.
+V10 FSI I think it depends on the music. Firebird for Blues, hard rock, southern rock. Explorer for metal, anything by Led Zeppelin.
+Ben Kuyt
and on the person. Wile I find the Explorer (especially the not Gibson Explorers) very nice...to me, this guitar is fugly
personally i would say that this shape is better for bass, and explorer for lead guitar
+Gaseous Snake I think Steve Harris had a bass shaped a little like this
Really cool to see Lee rocking in this video. Whatever pedal he is using works really well with that Fender amp too.
what's up with a fender strap on a Gibson guitar -___-
lots of people use gibson guitars through fender amps. o-o
I have a squier strat with a Gibson strap!
Their really comfy
It's a guitar strap.
I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL GUITAR
That was some nice Status Quo at the start :)
i've been on the fence about buying one of these, now i think i may have to. thanks guys! great work as always!
Its funny cuz you have chappers who's like a massive rocker and then you have cap10 lee who's like the guy you would never imagine with a firebird playing rock music lol.
Byw i love the new skunk baxter firebird
This is one of my favourite videos on UA-cam :) My go-to cheer-up video.
During that intro, all I could think was, "FUCK YES......I like these guys." xD that is definitely a guitar that you rock out with FIRST and talk LATER
One of my favorite reviews of yours guys to come back to.
guys what's the song at 5:05
'A' - nothing
+Dhruv Kotecha A - nothing
These guys make my day every time I watch one of their videos!
I wonder if Epiphone will make one
95% sure they do.
They make a limited edition Pelham Blue Firebird that you can get new for around $399 and if you don't like that color you can find older ones on ebay for about $300.
Betty Pendegrast Nope.
***** Id rather get Orville, mij, better than epiphone in my op
***** I have an Epiphone Firebird studio in worn cherry. Soooo good and even all my other friends love it. Sounds pretty good but the build and finish is great and it feels so nice to play, no regrets
is he wearing a fender strap with a gibson guitar..........
Yes and he looks good doing it
Matthew Law Chuckles
Dennis Eardley Haha I was going to say that but checked out the comments first. Too funny.
he wanted to match the strap and guitar. everyone does that
Dank Tank oh shit how dare he
I can't believe my eyes, is El Capitan playing whilst standing?
you guys are so fun to listen to im going to start learning how to play this summer
It's six years later, and I'm curious to know; did you indeed start learning to play that summer?
Ok, so here's my question. are the pickups of the Firebird a higher output than that of a Les Paul?
I'm not sure but judging that they are p90's and that the les pauls have humbuckers i'd go with the les pauls having a higher output.
or my mistake , theyre mini humbuckers. But i'd still go with the LP!
alex mallen
The thing is Alex, I've always seen bands, especially the Foo Fighters switch from using Les Pauls & Teles to Firebirds & Explorers for there heavier songs Even in video comparisons between LP's and FB's the Birds seem to sound like they have more output, but I'd like to know for sure

Fender strap on Gibson guitar
Still, after all these years, likely the best intro jam on the channel. Awesomesauce!
Did anyone notice that troll face at 17:43
since the 60's we've had the ibanez iceman and the extremely similar fireman, the bc rich stealth, the jackson king v, the dean ml, my personal favorite, the ibanez xiphos, off the top of my head. those are some of my favorites.
You guys have cracked me up on this one!!! I like Firebirds even better now!!!
My gibson firebird 120th anniversary edition in VSB arrived this week. LOVE IT!
You guys have so much freaking *fun* with those FIREBIRD's, same as you did with the Gibson LP Juniors. Wonder why?!
At 1:03 , they nearly share a kiss.
Man, those Firebirds sound great through that Orange amp.
I love these videos. And they come up for so many things!
I've watched this video soo many times, and every time I always come back for Captains face at 1:06 along with a master class in blues/classic rock guitar playing
The fact that you guys just played the riff from the song Nothing by A. Gets a like and a big hell yeah from me!!!!
This video made me bought this guitar and this is really a great instrument i don't regret this at all really nice looking and a great song, perfect guitar and BADASS
+1 ! And the look on Chappers face when he starts doing Slash's Slither at the end is priceless !
Indeed they DO have an awesome job - playing awesome guitars with your buddy and making money!
This is indeed a guitar model you don't need to explain. Fantastic!
thanks for the fast answer Jack. I've noticed that Pepper Keenan from Down plays a custom one it's very beautiful. guess i'll check the epiphone one.
definitely the best jams these two have ever done for sure!
Love the opening jam on this ... simple but you nailed it
Great high energy review. Got me pumped to pick up my guitar after just getting up.
Great review guys. What song is that at 5:20??
The opening is the most enjoyable playing I've heard from these two. More music, less noodling.
Johnny Winter said he thought of the FBird as playing like a Gibson but sounding like a Fender i.e. treblier.
my favorite guitar!
few years back tested a Custom Metallic Sky Blue Firebird that is retailing for $5,000!
The Captain's tone in this video is incredible, really nails that classic sound. Rob's sounds a little too scratchy to me.
1st class solo from captain!!!!greatings from Austria
Love this guitar! Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird solo played through this guitar was what made me star playing the guitar!
That jam at the start was awsome, nice one guys!!
I've got the Thunderbird wich is basically a bass version of the Firebird. Very very nice design indeed. Plays smooth as butter.
Awesome vid guys how good do those firebirds sound!! and the two tones complimented each other perfectly :)
What's that riff that Captain plays around 13:53 or something like that? It sounds really familiar and badass!
OMG....@ 8:04 The Captain gettin' jiggy.....I'm still lmao!
Hey great review. What riff is the captain playing at 13:40?Cool video. Great stuff.
pretty sure its velvet revolver
That's "Slither" from Velvet Revolver.
Great song.
Thank you.
Man I never gave the firebird a second thought, till now. THANK YOU!
the sound recording and sound quality is absolutely remarkable on this video.
