This was a much needed comparison.
I tried both. X440 multiple times and every time I rode it, I fell more in love with it. Its smooth, calm, composed character always got to me. What an experience. The beautiful exhaust rumble is a great companion. And that chunky tank only adds to it. I just wish it had something similar to those tank extensions that Hero added to the Mavrick.

Hero Mavrick has the most visible cost cutting of any premium bike I have ever seen in my life.
For sure! But like our folks said, look beyond the spec sheet.
If i want to choose then it will be the hero over the harley. Not only it looks good and has a very well proportionate design but it also offers similar riding experience by undercutting the harley in terms of pricing. Sure the hero doesn't' get the fancy UPside down front forks or TFT display compared to the harley but the hero offers value for money , has a great service network and easy to maintain as well. All in all the hero is the clear winner.

First booking for X440 in Bangalore. Cancelled it when delivery was announced, partly pissed that my Denim variant was delayed. On impulse (another Hero bike I own) bought thr Maverick a fortnight ago. Falling in love with it. So which do I prefer - sesting comfortwise the Mavrick. Rest, yet to discover...

I think the basic reason why I would not go with "Harley" 440x is simply because it does not look like a Harley-Davidson. It is a similar dilemma that I had while looking at Tata Nano.

You didnt mention about X440s exhaust note and Torquey feeling, but you mentioned Mavricks ease of handling multiple times, severely biased
Because smaller wheel, better handling!
First:
the 440cc in the x440 delivers slightly more torque than the mavrick, which translates to better response when you get on the gas.
A while later:
The torque being 2nm less than the x440, however, there are two ways by which the mavrick levels the playing field. One, the bike weighs 3 kilos lesser and two, according to hero, the bike delivers 90% of the peak torque right around the 2000rpm mark. The result, the motorcycle has a highly refined and tractable nature, it also feels quicker and is happier to hit the redline between the two.
Mind clarifying what that means? Do you mean that when ridden within powerband, somewhere midway, the X440 feels faster? (and the Mavrick is better both in the lows as well as the highs?)
Basically due to smaller tyres and less weight mavrick comes above x440 in terms of riding dynamics , although if u want that hefty feel of abike then x440 is better
@@devansh3700 I haven't ridden the Mavrick yet, but I quite liked the 440x, lovely handling. And yes, it feels substantial. But how do you describe BOTH vehicles indirectly as "more responsive to throttle input"
But I really hope PD doesn't drop their journalism quality.
So the Mavrick uses a different map + less weight = Better when you get on the gas. Its not night and day but the performance numbes favour the Mavrick.
The quality gap between the HD and Hero is a lot smaller compared to Duke and Pulsar

For me it's maverick all the way, took test ride of both multiple times, bought the Mavrick, instantly fell in love, have driven more than 3500 kms in 2 months

You have proved nothing! The x440 is miles ahead in the torque delivery, mavrick largely misses that,though keeping the same engine.mavrick moves lethargic even compared to cb 350.
Gear shifting is not as smooth(in both x440 and mavrick)as TVS Ronin.
Mavrick just looks like coming from fzs 150 segment.
The good thing about your review is, the x440 is an amazing handler,it just feels like a paper heavy while moving and nimblest i have ever seen.

And finally,many do not know that hero manufacturing Harley davidson.So,when you ride x440,the awesomeness will be there in even 2 tier cities....such is the brand pulling of Harley.
Same,when you ride mavrick,they will see hero...and the excitement dies and splendor feel start awakening..what a loss
We aren't out there to prove anything but we want to highlight what's good and what's not between these motorcycles. For us, the Mavrick is a much better motorcycle between the two. Better performance numbers too.

This is personal opinion and I wanna say this. For me, a USD forks is a must have or a hygiene thing to have in a 400cc bike. Cause for me, USD forks works well on roads with speed breakers. If anyone wants say anything like, 'no you are wrong, price is the important factor for not adding usd on maverick', etc. I DON'T CARE.
It works best at higher speeds when you go around corners. But cost is an important factor for these motorcycles

Trust me. Hero bikes looks good on paper and photo. Don't ever trust . Hero's mechanism of after sales service through very unexperienced mechanics in their service centres are worst part of the company mainly in the tier 2/3 cities. Also after BS6 generation all Hero bikes has new problems and issues every day and the most annoying thing is that even their mechanics Don't have any idea how to solve those issues. Don't just buy from Hero.
