What he didn't want spilling out was the size and scope of that "russian interference." I get your point but there is a difference between a journalist and someone releasing classified documents. Having had a secret clearance in the military we agree to never divulge information we come across with the understanding we will face consequences if we do.

If CIA poisons the water in my town I'd very much like to fucking know even if it would paint a bleak picture of the state, because in case you forgot, the state is there to SERVE THE PEOPLE, not the otherway around. The issue is that now you open up a wormhole where those not necessarily in the know start determining for themselves what is legal or not and publicly releasing documents. Just because someone asks a yes or no question, doesn’t mean your answer should be yes or no. Their question can include false assumptions which can be structured so that you are agreeing with the assumptions regardless of your answer if you are restricted to preselected responses.

Hats off to Mr. Taibbi keeping his composure while being interrogated by Goldman. If this dude Goldman would have treated anyone outside of this hearing like that, very likely he would have been schooled on manners pretty quickly.
You cannot alter a hard drive without changing the signature (hash) of that hard drive. It is easy to corroborate an original against an 'altered' hard drive, takes all of a few seconds. If the FBI had the hard drive in 2019, any copy of the hard drive can easily be corroborated against the original hash to verify it's authenticity. I think he meant that he did not believe that man's comment regarding the laptop because that man never had possession or first hand knowledge of what it contained. The FBI had possession. The whole laptop story is questionable. Why give it to the FBI? Why not the regular police? As far as the store owner was concerned, it was just abandoned property. The police would have stored if for 90 days (or whatever their protocols are), and if no one tried to claim it, it would have just been destroyed or auctioned off.
