Good job! You didn’t over-do it. The way that you were describing how you felt starting out is exactly how I feel every time I do a video where I’m trimming my beard.
This was the most nerve-racking video I've watched in a while. I love the advice of going in confident. I'm not quite that confident yet, but teaching like this gives me a little more each time I watch them. Turned out great. Can't tell you how much I appreciate you, brother, like many out here.
@@DanCBearded 😂 Looks good tho! You managed to pull through the anxiety of possibly dropping the clippers. I do all my touch ups with scissors due to that fear. I’ve dropped them while trimming in the past. 🤦🏻♂️ I’m going for more of the wild man style when going without heat, so I haven’t had my sideburns trimmed in over a year. 😳 I’ve learned how to dial them in on the days that I use heat, but am actually alright with wild burns on my natural, curly routine.
Nailed it Dan! The end of last year I started using a light balm on mustache and sides, it has allowed me to try to grow out. Been controlling sides with balm and heat. I get some hairs that tail back behind my ear but I’ve been letting it go. Longest, biggest it’s been yet in my 2 year journey. Haven’t touched it since February trying to make it thru at least August hopefully into fall before another touch up. Looks really good Dan, I think this will help a lot of people🍻🍻🍻
Great video!! I'm so nervous to trim my own beard but you always make it look so easy. And you do it with such confidence. Keep up the good work. Dan, these videos are very informative for people looking to do their own trims.
I did the same type of trim about a month ago and F'd it up by taking off to much but now after letting it grow back out it's looking sharp and on point.
That was a great enhancement to your beard, sir! I think we are all afraid to touch our mane sometimes, but trimming can be very rewarding. It just needs to be done with some TLC lol.
I have the same exact issue with my sideburn area. I’m making mental notes with this video. I’m not going to do anything yet since I’ve still got almost a month and a half left till my yeard is complete. Very much appreciate this valuable content 💪🏻
Oh man Dan, had me grittin my teeth there for a but. But gotta say ya had me laughing at the end w ur happy dance. Like many I'm sure, so glad it went well.
For mustache I always brush straight down and trim along the lip line. Then i go for any curling that goes to corners of mouth. Looking good Dancy bearded
Good Afternoon, Dan, I think trimming the sideburns like you did even with the long beard is the better look. The longer sideburns never seem to lay right. I think I have them all set for the day when I leave for work, but later they just seem to curl back and look unkept. I just trimmed mine on Friday night. Thanks for the video, Dan and as always your beard looks super. Arden
Nice work Dan! Just had my 3-month beard "reset" (Kinda hard to really call it a trim if not even 1/16" was taken off). Kinda had the same problem with the "poof" on the sides so went and got haircut and my beard reset. I go to a barber because my hands shake so bad I can't do a straight line (I screwed up trimming the mustache on the lip line a month ago and it was crooked.) Here's to continuing the journey!
Respect. I don't want to dwell on it too much but know how nerve racking this can be. I like that you opted to start right hand cross over makes sense whether you use right hand or just start left (or none dominant) side in general as conservatively as possible, trying to match detail with less dominant hand/side AFTER always seems to be asking for trouble
I think the part of the beard your trimming is the line on the side I gave up on for my beard. Might be referencing this video if I end up running into the same problem. Thanks Dan! Answering questions before I realized I even had to ask it 😆
Interesting to see you approach your bulky sides from the back. Never would have occurred to me. Front, or top, but never back!. Mustache also well done. I’d been looking forward to this video for a couple weeks. Worth the wait!
Thanks Leo!! I approach that trim from the back because it lets me get a clear path to only what’s sticking out. Not taking any of the bulk, which would be more risky attacking from the front
I wish I waited to trim my beard one more day lol. I trimmed my side’s yesterday although wish I saw this before but I’m pretty happy with it. My face is definitively thinner. Appreciate all you do Dan C.
You're in my brain Dan. I just did a massive 2 inch trim on my beard. Looks way fuller, but i definitely need some adjustment time. Your title scared me a bit too
Awesome trim video and the beard and stache look great. I 100% agree with the take less than you think and style it over a few days then trim again as needed. Less is definitely more when it comes to trimming facial hair.
I have a beard that I more-or-less allow to grow uncut but I do handle the sideburns down to around the bottom of the ears by cutting them with a 1/2" clipper guard otherwise it sticks out and does weird tjings.
Thankyou for the mustache trim tip. My corners creep into my mouth when I'm eating, and I have been trying to figure out the best way to trim that without cutting my mouth or taking off too much.
Nice demonstration on the trimming, I have the same issue with the sideburns trying to curl and neither side grows at the same rate, so an occasional trim like you just did really helps achieve the balance most guys look for .. thanks for a great video Dan!
Been waiting for this one, specially after this being what I brought up during beard advice live. I definitely was doing more clipper through that area till this year, so I’m still feeling out what full length on the sides will do and if it’ll blend well. I’m kinda determined to work with it through the end of the year to grow past old trimming habits and see where I’m at. This is helpful as a good example of what I might can explore when the time comes but I definitely will feel out when the time is right. I have my days where the sides drive me crazy, but I’ve also gotten better at getting them to work for me. I notice I have to go between methods. One day the round brush may be best but too many days in a row and it’s worse. I’ve been going between round brush, heated brush and just blow dryer with boars hair brush. The combo seems to tame better than any one method day after day. Once I know I’m filled out though, I’ll circle back here if I’m still getting bothered. Tough call but I like the subtle adjustments to avoid any massive emotional mistakes and big changes that will take long periods of time to correct. This is also a good example of the journey we’re on. Dan was probably against this for a time but in this season, it’s what’s best for where he’s at. It’s important to enjoy the journey and love our beard in each season.
Spot on in so many ways! Especially styling aspects working for some days and then just out of nowhere NOT working the same. I have that happen all the time. Then I shift to something similar but just different enough

Dan, when you do your trims are they immediately after you've finished styling your beard for the day, or maybe 30 mins later, 2 hrs later, half the day? How long should we let our beards set after styling before we tackle a trim? Thanks for the amazing demo!! Smooth as ever!! 👊😉
So my mustache has gotten really out of hand just to confirm, from under your nose to the corners of your top lip, you cut it tight. Those hairs aren’t long and pushed to the side ? I have tried touching up this way but whenever I have, the sides go back to really getting in my mouth. I use a heated brush but it never holds for more than an hour or so. Thanks Dan !

Hey, Dan. Thanks for the video! I share in your struggle. Just wondering, do you recommend trimming upward with the trimmer? Also, if you were to take bulk away from the mustache, what technique would you recommend? Thanks very much. Ronald from New York
