- The Mermen at Moe's Alley in Santa Cruz July 12, 2014. Madagascar 5:01 Sponge Cookie 10:13 , Ocean Beach 17:16 , Good Bad and Ugly 20:47 , With No Definite Future 28:28 , Costanoa 35:18
I've never enjoyed any other band as much as these guys. When life lets me down, the Mermen keep my spirits UP!! More power to you!! The Beekeeper
The billions of years that the universe took to get to this point was time well spent.
The Track at 17 minutes in is my first hit of the band on a 90s indie surf comp. It was everything I wanted to happen in a surfy context. So glad they exist.
Such an amazing set. There is so much fusion of so many American music elements and surf themes in this music...Bay Area psyche, Dick Dale licks, Country Western (Cowboy music), funk/R&B, minimalist heavy metal, punk, and lots of natural surf sounds. Like waiting for the waves in between sets, then you take the ride...........
literally...the greatest band ever! Jim is a genius.
Three astonishing musicians.
I personally listen this guys daily, it´s like a breeze of fresh air for me!!
Wish I was monetizing $$ !
Love the Mermen....they are brilliant! Thanks to the Thephilmor for the great audio and video of these guys!
First heard the Mermen in a kitchen I worked in here in Colorado back in the late 90’s... I’ve been listening ever since... I listen a lot when I’m snowboarding and it gets the stoke levels up
how are these dudes not more well known? they are awesome!
Waiting for the right time to break out!
Bruh. I think they spend their time being musicians instead of working the fame circle jerk. The eternal paradox of popular music.
Still: yeah. Bay Area music scene’s best kept secret, but deserve world domination.
This is jaw droppingly fantastic.
this is the best Cure i have ever heard.....amazing.
Wow, much of it reminded me of The Doors quite a bit
Best version of costanoa I've heard.
Does not get any better that the Mermen dialing in that pyscho-surf-tastic fat round sound… and thats the dog-gone-truth !
Amazing.... sponge cookie is something I listen to regularly when I ride my motorcyle... reminding me of when I would just cruise around in Road Rash 3D just driving and listening to the amazing sound track.
Sonic love the Mermen... We were really looking forward to this gig. ..Had a camp spot and everything...Sounds great while hanging in the kitchen drinking tea...
Soundtrack to a good mood
10:13 is actually "Sponge Cookie". Thanks for sharing this gem of a show.
Done!
I miss these guys SO much.......makes me wanna cry.
Amazing that these guys aren't a major name in music, they are a combo of early Quicksilver Messenger Service, Dead, and Airplane as far as jamming goes. Jim Thomas is right up there with Eric Clapton, Mark Knofler and others.
JIM won't allow commercialization
@@eudaemon7 Strangely enough, I always felt by the third album that ALL groups have lost their uniqueness and gone commercial. There are few exceptions, Zappa was one, Dead, King Crimson, Tangerine Dream, maybe a couple of others
@@slick1rick1 I'd call it the rule. Plenty of exceptions though. Certainly the "better" the artist the more creative stamina.
I can never remember Tangerine Dream's name. Thanks for reminding me.👍
And also, Rick, when a band changes their style, I know for me it's hard to accept, for a lot of reasons.
But hell yeah the early stuff is almost always the kind! Who do you love?
I love this.
Happy new year - you mermen you
I love these men
Breath-taking!... f a b u l o u s !
Killer show! I was there!
Nais, my childhood comes up with this through roadrash64
19:50 what a bassist!!
21:00 Marlboro
Unreal
twice as nice!
AWESOME......MUCH LOVE.!!!...Tee with LIONS NAMED LEO
Holy crap!
Someday I will watch this concert live.
Keep an eye on Mermen.net
@@Thephilmor My sister is living on Denver, so now I have a place to stay for a while when I get to USA to make some dreams come true, among them, watch a Mermen live concert. My brother like this band too. You have a legion of fans around the world, who played Road Rash and listened for hours and hours your amazing songs during childhood.
@@marcosrwr Thank You so Much! I can't wait to show this to Jim! Sounds like Road Trip To Santa Cruz time!
Do it. I haven’t seen them since leaving Cali over a decade ago, but SF and Burning Man shows were ecstatic in a religious sense and remain fresh memories
Good stuff. But that's Sponge Cookie at 10:13, not Varikino Snow.
only took me 5 years to correct it!
@@Thephilmor Thanks for all the great music you've been putting online.
@@tomcleaveland4325 You are Welcome!
@@tomcleaveland4325 It's my pleasure ! Best "job" ever ;)
When will you come to Brazil?
Is this song just in standard E? Anyone know for sure or can just tell? My brother asked and I say it's in E (listening to the bass alone tells me). No Mermen tabs online really.
Thanks!
road rash showwwwwwww
Anyone up for a road trip up to santa cruz?
Mermen: Vocês são simplesmente FODA!
Right?
@@Thephilmor in Brazil it means: Mermen, You are so fcking good... Yeah!
@@marcosrwr I'll show this Jim !!!
Show this TO Jim!

WOW!! Are they still playing and touring? I'm in SF--tell me where--I love these guys!!
+Cindy Pickering The MERMEN and the Shi Tones will be at the Park Chalet (behind the Beach Chalet) for New Years EVE starting around 9:30! Here's a link www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=E8ZWXFC75C8Q8 See You There !!!
+Thephilmor Thank you so much!! Now that would be a good way to start this new year!! Big changes for me and maybe that means I should not stay home this New Year's and watch the ball drop! Get out!! Have fun!! Listen to great music!!
top
This is so fucking excellent it's ridiculous.
Good capsule description of our aquatic brethren and sistren. Been a fan for 25 years. Madagascar is on my kid's phone. Everyone should know The Mermen!
Mermen forever.
And hey: can you break out individual tunes for sharing, so we can enhance the musicians’ fame and wealth? Shockingly, not everyone is ready for Mermen Megadose, at least on the small lo-fi screen.
Great to hear Loud Madagascar by the trio - I always imagine it with more thunder than Thomas’s sweet and tender solo beast.
i hope they come to florida
Did you listen to this in Florida? Then they did.
I'll take TASTY for $1,000 Alex!
