Merry Christmas / Happy holidays, hope you enjoy this surprise. Or, if you're watching this after the holidays... ya know. Happy day. Borahae. May your holidays season be filled with peace, and may it be a time of rest, restoration, and rejuvenation for you and yours. Blessings one and all! *EDIT: JIN AND JUNGKOOK CAMEO?? I'M SORRY WHAT

I have watched this video 100s of times at this point. There are so many little hidden things in it. If you are interested in the historical/ cultural Easter eggs check out DKDKTV’s video. But I love all the little Easter eggs 1) the butchers in the beginning are the executioners later on during the gladiator scene & again when they set him free, 2) that is Jin & JK fighting in the market & Jin is carrying a fishing rod bc he LOVES to fish & is constantly dragging Yoongi along, 3) in the gladiator scene the scroll has a stylized picture of Bang PD their boss & CEO of big hit & it actually is based on a drawing from their Run BTS pajama party episodes🤣 they have some great behind the scenes photos & videos & Yoongi did a YT interview & vlive discussing his mixtape & Daechwita.
@@sunray535 it's also funny because in the show In the Soop, both Jin and Suga both admitted that they don't like fishing all that much but they go anyway because the other likes it so much. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fun fact~ that drawing of Bang PD is from way earlier than that Run BTS ep! In 2014 they had a little drawing guessing game and JK is the one who came up with it (reposted video cos I can't find the original: ua-cam.com/video/agT2aYrW26E/v-deo.html) I love how these little inside jokes and references continue to pop up in various places over the years 😆
Did you notice that as the story progresses, the King is becoming more unstable (hair was up and neat in the first part, down and kind of crazy in the last part)?
omg i have a whole file full of explanations and references so here we go Daechwita (대취타) is a group of traditional instruments that are played during the king's ceremonial processions. it was performed during military marches or when the army won the war. only the military was allowed to play it at the time. but here 대취타 itself is turned on its head as a symbol of rebellion against the severe king. the executioner is on the rebellion side to, you can see him and Yoongi's character meeting eyes in the village in the beginning of the mv. and also notice that all that black clothed people which were kneeling to the king (but were still humiliated) in the end shaking their heads to the rebellion leader singing Daechwita. they support him out of choice, not fear or force. they don't want their king too the king is aka Agust D: he is blond like Yoongi was during Agust D - first mixtape, that got him an immense fame. a quote from "The Last": "And Min Yoongi? I killed him" - this is Agust D words about getting through the hardships and use them to fire the greed he used as a weapon to get to the point he is today. he had to create a persona that could take it and shrug everything off. so Agust D is the persona that gave him power and fame, took him to the heights he's at. The king is full of himself, he is rough, doesn't care about those who's below him, killing people if he doesn't like them (execution scene, boxes with heads). That's the representation of what he could have become under the industry and success / what he is turning in to / what people have made him out to be the rebellious one is Min Yoongi, his commoner self who's there to take the control back and kill the king and to over the throne, to force his real self to remember where he came from. he is the "reality check" to "put my feet on the ground", show that he still values his roots and his journey also it's quite similar to the Jung's Map of The Soul theme (Shadow MV is Yoongi's solo with BTS). and the inner struggles with his self is also prevalent throughout D-2 (second mixtape). some qoutes: "Do I really even enjoy making music?", "I only started this because I liked music, but the descriptors they add to my name are burdensome at times." that reminds me of how many time "king" is in the Daechwita lyrics. it puts hum on top and also puts a pressure on him to maintain the image, that may be not who he really is. he's not a savage or angry person, but this persona can consume him more on the cultural references 4:58 /Il wol o bong do/ behind the king's chair in Joseon era has Moon on the left side, Sun on the right side, waterfalls & pine trees on both sides, mountain with 5 peaks and waves in the front. This painting is usually done when the king sits on the throne, it means prosperity of royal family under gods' protection and king's dignity MV was shot in Daejanggeum Park in Yongin, Gyeonggido the gun in Yoongi's hand is actually colt model 1860 ARMY. i don't know if it was on purpose, but hehe both characters share the same scar to signal that they are one. that's why one of them is hiding under the hat at the market place, bc he looks like the king. also in Korea a man with a scar couldn't become a king. though Yoongi said he wanted a scar bc it just looks cool 😄 there's a lot more but go to DKDKTV, they have a deep explanation :) sorry for typos or mistakes 🙌 happy hollidays!
1) we all wish there was a movie version of this. 2) although Suga and AgustD can be scary/savage, Yoongi is the softest, gentlest, most loving and kind human being ever. 3) Yoongi can evoke emotions. He can make you feel what he wants to regardless we know the language or not. Love watching your reactions.
Suga is incredibly special. He's my bias wrecker. His rap is so emotional and intelligent. I'm 51 years old and he always gets to me emotionally. I'm so happy you picked this as a Christmas gift to us. I always enjoy your break downs. Thank you so much. Merry Christmas.
K-media described him as "King of Music Industry" . He has titles such as: "Hand of Midas", "Daegu Wordsmith" "Unrivaled Producer", "Genius Producer" "Musical Genius" , "Hitmaker" They weren't lying. Agust D is really good at producing and writing songs. Even just the fact that he receives many request from not just Korean but western artists as well for collaboration is enough of a proof that he really is talented. Also, knowing that he was behind the concept of the music video is impressive too. I am glad that he is receiving the recognition he deserves. The dude has been producing/writing for so long for BTS too. It's time that he gets the spotlight too.
Hey! You actually did it! A surprise drop! We've had a day of those haha. Yes, we all knew you'd LOVE this video. Also noted in the ced-tions that you've watched the explanation videos, and I bet you were even more impressed afterwards right? Anyway, loved the reaction except for one thing ... you didn't say Dutch angles once throughout huhu .. just kidding (seriously though, were there none? okay, kidding again) Have a great holiday, also keep us in your thoughts, we are expecting another surprise drop from BTS tonight from Tae/V, after barely surviving Jimin's one this afternoon :) Thus, is ARMY life.
Korean traditional military music, Daechwita (大吹打) Daechwita is a music that was used as an accompaniment when the king came or the army marched in the Joseon Dynasty.
I just say Yoongi, mostly because always hearing the members talk amongst themselves they will call each other by their real names. I’m so used to hearing them say “Yoongi-hyung”.
Percy Jackson fans are over here! Just because we are also opened for k-pop and especially BTS. Thank you for reaction😊 Fun fact: song "UGH" starts with shoot after "Deachita". Have a good day!
DKDKTV's explanation videos are exceptional. If i have to recommend one or two I will go with IDOL explained and DDAENG explained😉 Merry Christmas to you and armys💜
My first impression when I saw it was that SUGA was ending the reign of his Agust D persona from the first mixtape, who was blond, growing Agust D into a new more refined character, the one with black hair.
Suga aka Agust D is a well known producer and songwriter in south korea, he even won a award. Suga released their second mixtape 'D-2' and his songs quickly positioned in the most important places of music charts worldwide. Suga has become the first South Korean solo artist to enter both the Billboard album and single charts at the same time, following the release of the "mixtape" "D-2" with his title track "Daechwita" Inspired by traditional Korean music used for the military march and royal parade, "Daechwita" combines the sound of traditional Korean wind and percussion instruments with the hiphop musical sub-genre "trap". Agust D 2, Suga's second mixtape has received a lot of support from fans and his music has positioned himself in the best places on the music charts, breaking several records. Suga's second solo record material, 'D-2' is in seventh place on the official album chart in the UK, the country's music list is considered one of the most important in the world. Suga has become the first South Korean soloist to have record material on the UK music chart and place his work in such an important position on the chart. Suga is one of the most influential Korean producers and musicians in the music industry. entertainment, thanks to the talent of the rapper from the company Big Hit, many artists seek to collaborate with him.
You should watch the behind the scenes with Yoongi! If you watch carefully, he nods to the butcher in the beginning. The butcher is also the executioner. They have a secret pact. Kiling the king is actually Agust D killing his own ego and going back to his rapping roots. He had almost complete control over this MV. He even had the sword expertly made, but they switched it for a prop because it was so heavy. But he still learned the sword handling. He truly IS a genius and is on top of the world.
@cedricgegel I am now noticing all the blues, oranges and teals, in movies now. I love it!!! Last night, my son just started going thru Wes Anderson's work...we watched Fantastic Mr Fox. As a parent I have built-in reactions watching my kids enjoy my interests. 🤣
I HIGHLY recommend the Pentatonix version of Sugar Plum Fairy!! Insane what they can vocally do! I love their arrangements! Wonderful for any music nerd/lover!
Idk if anyone in the comments have told you, I haven't seen one so let me just, in case. At first the production house (Lumpens) was about to make the music video a simple one, probably aiming like a lyrics video or animated one (like they did for RM's last mixtape, where RM wasn't in the video at all), but Suga said "nah, no, this is my song, whatever i wanna do" so he was actually the one who came up with the historical references, the MV concept, the storyline that involved 2 different persona/characters there. It was all his idea, and the production team was basically assisting him for the details, but for the grand picture, it all came from Suga himself. He even hinted that one of his character for this MV actually has a name, something that he said he will reveal for his 3rd mixtape (well, so we wait). And I absolutely agree with you, I WANT TO SEE THIS AS A MOVIE!!! HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE!!! AAAAA!!!!! PS. Happy holiday and merry christmas to you too :)))
Yoongi is a king and this MV was his idea from top to bottom. There is a great behind the scenes video around somewhere, probably on BangtanTv. I love this song. He's one of two rappers I really like, the other being Eminem and like Eminem, you don't want to piss him off or call out Agust D because he can be savage. Great reaction, and I can't believe you missed our boys JK an Jin fighting in the background. 🤣
Yoongi is wise enough to realize that once you rise up to the top and have everything you want, big fame, big cars, big rings and big house, you become kind of a monster. The other members always said Yoongi was the most ambitious one hoping for more no.1 in the charts, more trophys, predicting Billboard, Grammy wins "What Yoongi wants Yoongi gets" is a famous line. Once you had to fight others to rise to the top now you have to bring your fight within to kill the Mad king that might destroy you if you don't. I guess he add to make that journey. I recommend watching : INTRO SHADOW to see how he managed to reconcile both part of himself. It's my take on it. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS CHRISTMAS GIFT 🎁 HAPPY HOLIDAYS🎁
Great video! My own interpretation of it is that the king, who has become a tyrant represents the dark part of Agust D who is motivated by greed and wanted to rise above everyone else. He is on his own and rules through fear. The peasant is accompanied by 6 men (representing the members?) and gets the keys to the car from a girl (representing ARMY?) to challenge this dark part of himself. He gains his power because he inspires the people around him. He also uses modern means to get to his goal (the car, the gun), maybe illustrating the fact that he's ready to evolve and progress while the king is stuck in the past. In the end, he manages to shoot the tyrant but it is interesting that we don't actually see him being killed, since I don't think you can kill your own dark side. Anyway, just my own interpretation of it, I don't claim it's what he actually wants to say. Happy holidays!
This was awesome, thank you!! If you haven’t already, I recommend watching Bookish theories explain video for Daechwita! Her videos are always so detailed! Hope you have a good holiday break!!
This is the MV that got me into BTS. I saw this, thought it was amazing and like a movie, so I started looking into more of Agust D. Found The Last and that was it. I went down the rabbit hole. Btw, there is a behind the scenes, making of video for this that you might find interesting.
@@cetriyasArtnComicsChannel I agree that they're moving much more towards pop, but I'm not sure that the newest fans are coming in through side projects. I've seen soooooooo many talking about Dynamite. While it's a fun song, it wasn't my fave(despite it being in all English which is what I speak) because there wasn't much of the rapline in it at all(like most of their new full group stuff).
@@sortaamy3003 I think Dynamite is the exception because of how much promotion the song was allowed to have. Its also why I think life goes on did so well too cause people learned of BTS from Dynamite. I was thinking fans In the past 2 ish years just before Dynamite and I also think its cause us fans always promote other songs like On, Black swan in BTS and Daechiwita, Change, Chicken noodle soup from their side projects.
By far the best Daechwita reaction I have seen. Not just because you speak so positively in regards to "Suga", but because of all the details you catch on to and explain.
Yoongi really is a genius. He says that Agust D isn't necessarily an entirely separate entity, but a tag that he used ( it's literally Suga backwards, with D for Daegu, his honetown) to separate his solo work from his work as Suga. His Agust D work (obviously) is harder and more raw, and allows him to explore themes and sounds that don't really fit in with BTS. Not all of his stuff is thus hard, but he is always very raw and honest. Thank you for the reaction. Merry Christmas! 💜
I've seen so many good reactors, UA-camrs, analyzers, content creators entering this fandom that unfortunately start to change after some time... for various reasons, more viewers, more money, clout, and... I really like and appreciate what you do please you don't change... happy holidays
Your Betty White comment was GOLD! Lol You're right about how beautiful and artistic this mv is. It's a shame the west will never appreciate it or any BTS mv for that matter, my opinion 😔 our boys have standards😆
Merry Christmas! Thank you for this wonderful gift. I knew you would love this video, but was just quietly waiting until you got to it on your own. What a coincidence that you reference Home Alone. I think it is their favorite Christmas movie. I have seen BTS make reference to Kevin putting on aftershave and screaming many times. For example, Jimmy Fallon's interview with them on the subway in February of this year. Also, according to several members of my family, Die Hard is a Christmas movie. So that would be the most violent Christmas movie. 😂 I don't know how the general population feels about that; maybe my family is just weird. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for the explanation of the production. It is interesting to hear things like the car shot being a nightmare to get, how the lighting and color schemes are achieved and why they are chosen, and also the choice of camera shots and how they make the character. Grammer not good today, it is. Yoda whispering in my ear. Merry Christmas! May 2021 bring more hope, love, charity, and prosperity to everyone!
Thanks for the reaction and analysis! A few things - the set they used is also used for many Korean historical dramas, so they did not have to build it from scratch. And for the story - Yoongi has share some info on what he wanted the story to be, as others have discussed. I have also heard that the story may have similar themes to a Korean movie where a crown prince is chased out of power as a child when the current king is killed and an imposter takes his place, a "mad king" (steps on his court officials and beheads anyone who disagrees with him). When the prince grows up, he gains support of the people and re-takes the throne (collaborates with the butcher/executioner, and the court officials show support with the head-banging). I don't remember the name of the movie (sorry!) but hopefully someone here does.
Random obscure comment about a bit of film history related to your comment about how “we’ve convinced viewers that nighttime is blue.” I recently got my BA in Film Studies, and would like to distinguish that it’s not a recent thing for viewers to interpret blue to be night and day to be yellow. The reason why it started was wayyyy back in film history, when technicolor didn’t exist yet, and even before the first film with synchronized sound was introduced with The Jazz Singer. A common way for the filmmakers to give movies color in attempt to entice audiences, and communicate times of day and the emotion in the scene was by coloring the entire frame. They could easily have had title inserts that announced “that evening,” or “the lovebirds,” and some did. But others (my main reference throughout this post is The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, 1920) instead colored the frames to show viewers day/night, and even other messages like which characters were evil (green) or if it was a scene that was romantic (pink). In other examples the filmmaker would have different colors to distinguish the settings from each other too! The early Germanic films within what’s designated as “The German Expressionist” era has a ton of examples of this, but it was a pretty common practice for filmmakers to use the colored frames as an entirely separate way of communication with the audience to portray whatever they felt was important!
True! I suppose my point was that we never reverted back to white moonlight as an industry; that said, one should not change what The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari has established. Thanks for sharing some of your knowledge! I know I’ve learned that, but it was way back in the back of my mind. A fun refresher course! Appreciate you watching and sharing your knowledge too 😌
@@CedricGegel1 I absolutely love your videos, and am so happy that you analyze the way you do. The analysis that you do and draw the theming from videos so quickly and discuss, teaches me so much! I guess what I’m attempting to say is along the lines of “no, thank you,” for producing and sharing videos that are a fountain of good topics to delve into to even just ponder that aren’t necessarily just about the video! 💜
Thanks, Cedric, and Merry Christmas!! I think you'd enjoy the interview video with him about the making of this. You don't have to watch with us if you don't want to, but just watch it on your own. Have a great break!
Suddenly I'm so interested in your bookshelf in the background. You did so much book (and their movie adaptations) references is this video... But, anyway, I loved how open you are about BTS' music and art. I hope you had a great Christmas and I wish you a great year in 2021.
I was waiting for this particular reaction. Epic MV. Dropping all politics including the deep and meaningful, visually it gives me goosebumps that nears MJ Thriller status. Agust D / Suga drowning in his Swag. Merry Xmas and have an awesome 2021 BTS journey.
7:55 that is funny that you say his presence affects his surroundings but the irony is that this Jin and Jin would fight anyone really, provoked or not. And in the same time they are all the most respectful individuals Jin is fighting JK by the way. So it is a delight. You need to see Deachwita as a two August D person fighting for their own existence But the golden king has gone mad he has anyone disapproving him beheaded We all know since seven we don’t want to know what is in the best box 📦 The peasant king is not as lonely he rides a car when they all walked and he still have his posses. The hat is wearing is good to protect from the rain and conceal his identity.
Someone pointed out in another reaction video that both the emperor character and the prisoner character have the same scar over the eye. The emperor's is more faded, and the prisoner's is more fresh. I LOVED that little detail.
It was so obvious that you enjoyed reacting to this as an actor and filmmaker. There are a lot of interviews done by Suga to explain this MV. Happy Hoidays!
Great Christmas gift! 🎄 ☃️ 💜 In my viewing experiences, you are the only reactor to acknowledge the insights provided by Joseph Campbell and his concepts of mythology, especially his book "Hero with a Thousand Faces." And, Campbell was greatly influenced by Carl Jung. There are multiple interwoven metaphors and "Map of the Soul" archetypes contained in this "film." This level of depth and complexity keeps me enthralled with BTS and Bighit. (Thank you for encouraging your viewers to look into Joseph Campbell.) Have a wonderful fun holiday! 🌟
To me, this is the BEST video of the year and it's not even nominated. Every element, every detail is covered. My favorite scene is the set up scene in the court yard. There are headless bodies laying in the court yard with a box, next to them for their heads. I want to see this performed in concert. I think it would be a seismic event. The stadiums would crumble as ARMY yelled DAECHWITA at the top of their lungs and bobbed their heads to this sick beat! It would be GRAND! Have you reacted to the This is ARMY video, by Xceleste'? It would give you an idea of who the people are that are watching your videos.
I love how you breakdown the production of every video you watch. I feel like I'm watching it for the first time when I hear you describe everything in great detail. Well done!
Loved your comment about how horizontal and vertical lines emphasize camera movement, or help it. So. These are historical architectural artifacts, these horizontal and vertical lines. So it must be an intentionally dramatic setting for the king and his court. To direct the eyes of his subjects. To strengthen his effect of emotional power. No. It is Yoongi versus his ego.
Daechwita, my favorite christmas song! haha jk. Thank you for this gift and I'm so glad you liked it. Its one of my favorite MVs of 2020, but I'm super biased. I think Suga really knows how to tap into emotions, with both his rap style and his performance...and I just love it. Have a really awesome Christmas and Happy new year!!!
First: I feel like repeating myself but thank you again for all the info on the cinematographic aspects. It is always a refreshing new take on content I must have seen a thousand time. I love also your thought process and how you catch on certain details. Second: Your post ced-ition keeps getting better and better. 😊 Third: Thanx a lot for this little surprise. I hope you'll have some lovely days off and be able to enjoy Xmas despite all.
i hope you watch the behind the scenes of the mv or the one where he's explaining the concept of daechwita, it has a subtitle so you can watch it in their channel bangtantv. Merry Christmas Cedric!!
You should watch the 'Shooting Sketch' for this. I personally love watching how they make there mv's. There is also the 'Explained By A Korean' 'DKDKTV '. There are a lot of slang and cultural references in BTS lyrics and mv's that we just would not understand otherwise. You could react to both a once. I rmb in the asian historical culture(?!) that the king cannot have any scars on their face, i think its probably agust d wants to project in the mv that he had scars he is not that perfect in others eyes but still a king🤴🏼
There is SO much going on in Daechwita and I absolutely love it (I'm a sucker for historical dramas - on that note, you should check out Hwarang! V acted in it!). Coming to it now, you missed out (all the better for your sanity) on the infuriatingly vague countdown for D-2. Also, my Riordanian heart is happy at your shoutout, so I feel like I should let you know; When BTS released the tracklist for Persona, the greater population immediately started researching (among other things) what "Dionysus" meant, while all us fans of both - who knew EXACTLY what it meant - lost it theorizing about possible connections and what it could mean (2019 MMA sums it all up pretty well). Best part is, though, that the Twitter account for The Lightning Thief Musical then tweeted “hey @BTS_twt let us know if you wanna collab. seems like the fandoms are ready and so are we.” ". . . what he does impacts other people." But also that's just Jinkook in a nutshell. "reminiscent of Mordor." As a Tolkien fan, I'm convinced they're bigger fans of Middle Earth than they let on, what with the beginning of Not Today (which I notice you haven't reacted to yet - hint hint) and that one shot from ON (which also has a little parallel to Not Today in the music video). If we can deal with Jin's jokes, we can deal with a musical reference or two. Anyone who disagrees with Home Alone is no longer valid and I will help you fight them (only 1 & 2 though. The other ones can rot). Thank you for the gift, now you should go check out Jimin and V's gifts for us!
Great reaction. Rarely mentioned but huge impact. Steer staring into camera juxtaposed with a raw roast, now that's a Wordless comment on life right there. Some say the severed heads in bags hanging from the balcony represent the big three record labels that tried to marginalize BTS. Agust D's whisper rap while tied up is very intimate, like he is telling a secret and he is. Several times we see the two versions of Suga smirking at one another, when we expected to see fear we see power. That car was the epitome of swag back in the day. That teal and orange focus gives me Maxfield Parrish vibes. Suga practiced for days to complete that sword dance. In the k-Drama world the first lead may look dead but they never are,lol Yep it would make a great film. Stay well
Actually the car used in the scene was chosen with specific intentions. The car he is riding in is the first even model of the Hyundai Grandeur Azera, manufactured from 1986 TO 1992. Back in the days, only the elite were able to ride in it and also it being Hyundai flagship model, and Hyundai motors is South Korea's largest automaker and BTS also happen to be the bran ambassadors. The car also resembles a familiar look to other cars that were used in his previous music videos as AgustD
You're spot on with the colour analysis, as usual! What I love about this video is the contrast - the blue which evokes the feeling of cold and orange - warmth; and other things in the video only reinforce both these aspects. As a result I feel like a viewer is being pulled towards opposite sides - to simplify: feeling good or feeling sad... Omg, I have so many feelings about this video... Ehh... Thanks so much for your reaciton and Merry Christmas! 💜 EDIT: Since you like mythology and cultural references, you should check out the MV for Idol and afterwards, if you want to find out what you've missed, DKDKTV's explanation video. Purple u.
That was the best Christmas present ever! I yearn for someone to be blown away by bts who has something intelligent to say. Thank you. Merry Christmas forever 💜
Not sure if anyone put this in the comments yet, but when you come back from your break. Have a look at the behind the scenes of Daechwita. Daechwita (대취타) is a group of traditional instruments that are played during the king's ceremonial processions. it was performed during military marches or when the army won the war. only the military was allowed to play it at the time. but here 대취타 itself is turned on its head as a symbol of rebellion against the severe king. the executioner is on the rebellion side to, you can see him and Yoongi's character meeting eyes in the village in the beginning of the mv. and also notice that all that black clothed people which were kneeling to the king (but were still humiliated) in the end shaking their heads to the rebellion leader singing Daechwita. they support him out of choice, not fear or force. they don't want their king too
the king is aka Agust D: he is blond like Yoongi was during Agust D - first mixtape, that got him an immense fame. a quote from "The Last": "And Min Yoongi? I killed him" - this is Agust D words about getting through the hardships and use them to fire the greed he used as a weapon to get to the point he is today. he had to create a persona that could take it and shrug everything off. so Agust D is the persona that gave him power and fame, took him to the heights he's at. The king is full of himself, he is rough, doesn't care about those who's below him, killing people if he doesn't like them (execution scene, boxes with heads). That's the representation of what he could have become under the industry and success / what he is turning in to / what people have made him out to be
the rebellious one is Min Yoongi, his commoner self who's there to take the control back and kill the king and to over the throne, to force his real self to remember where he came from. he is the "reality check" to "put my feet on the ground", show that he still values his roots and his journey
also it's quite similar to the Jung's Map of The Soul theme (Shadow MV is Yoongi's solo with BTS).
and the inner struggles with his self is also prevalent throughout D-2 (second mixtape). some qoutes: "Do I really even enjoy making music?", "I only started this because I liked music, but the descriptors they add to my name are burdensome at times." that reminds me of how many time "king" is in the Daechwita lyrics. it puts hum on top and also puts a pressure on him to maintain the image, that may be not who he really is. he's not a savage or angry person, but this persona can consume him
more on the cultural references
4:58 /Il wol o bong do/ behind the king's chair in Joseon era has Moon on the left side, Sun on the right side, waterfalls & pine trees on both sides, mountain with 5 peaks and waves in the front. This painting is usually done when the king sits on the throne, it means prosperity of royal family under gods' protection and king's dignity
MV was shot in Daejanggeum Park in Yongin, Gyeonggido
the gun in Yoongi's hand is actually colt model 1860 ARMY. i don't know if it was on purpose, but hehe
both characters share the same scar to signal that they are one. that's why one of them is hiding under the hat at the market place, bc he looks like the king. also in Korea a man with a scar couldn't become a king. though Yoongi said he wanted a scar bc it just looks cool 😄
there's a lot more but go to DKDKTV, they have a deep explanation :)
sorry for typos or mistakes 🙌 happy hollidays!
a great read. thank you
Great explanation. A king could have scars, only the royal women couldn't.
Tbh, i feel this mv is the best mv of 2020. The song, concept, setting, story, suga himself all work out so well.
Favorite reactor of 2020
Wow. Thank you so, so much!
Truue.. i also always waiting his reaction💜
Wow for someone who saw this video for the first time, I did not expect you'd get the duality concept and the battle within himself. You're awesome!
“Except for Betty White, protect her at all cost.” 😂😂😂 Yes protect that woman!!! I love Betty White!
She’s a national treasure 💜 I used to watch Golden Girls with my grandma 💜
@@boochicky I used to watch Golden Girls with my mom. 😊💜 Precious memories!
fun fact: the two people yoongi bumps in to that start fighting each other are actually Jin and Jungkook.
K-media described him as
"King of Music Industry" .
He has titles such as:
"Hand of Midas", "Daegu Wordsmith"
"Unrivaled Producer", "Genius Producer"
"Musical Genius" , "Hitmaker"
They weren't lying.
There were several, just hard to keep track 😂 hope you’re enjoying all the surprises! Happy holidays!!
Korean traditional military music, Daechwita (大吹打)
Daechwita is a music that was used as an accompaniment when the king came or the army marched in the Joseon Dynasty.
I just say Yoongi, mostly because always hearing the members talk amongst themselves they will call each other by their real names. I’m so used to hearing them say “Yoongi-hyung”.
Percy Jackson fans are over here! Just because we are also opened for k-pop and especially BTS.
Thank you for reaction😊
Fun fact: song "UGH" starts with shoot after "Deachita".
Have a good day!
The lighting director for this MV is the same director who did The Kingdom. Phenomenal work and epic MV.
DKDKTV's explanation videos are exceptional. If i have to recommend one or two I will go with IDOL explained and DDAENG explained😉
Merry Christmas to you and armys💜
"This was art, art, on TOP OF ART"... yes, yess and YAAAS!! 💜
YES I LOVE FANTASTIC MR FOX!!!! “Are you cussing at me??” Grand Budapest Hotel is in my top 5 favorite films too!
@@CedricGegel1 🤣 My son who's 17 was laughing every time he used "cuss." It was so funny, Grand Budapest is next!!
@@melgaye0 let me know how you like it! Definitely more “adult” (language etc) but so, so, so well done.
I HIGHLY recommend the Pentatonix version of Sugar Plum Fairy!! Insane what they can vocally do! I love their arrangements! Wonderful for any music nerd/lover!
So good! Anything by PTX is bound to be perfection
Wow. I haven't listened to this song in a while, and I forgot how EPIC it is!!!! Loooooooove it!!!
According some Korean reactors I follow, the historical gun he uses at the end is literally called "ARMY". :)
The gun is colt revolver 1860 model called Army he is genius 💜
I just want to say that I plan on supporting any work you do when this pandemic junkiness is over. I stan thoughtful, intelligent and kind people
That’s very kind of you, and I hope I make work that is worth supporting. Much appreciated, truly. Happy holidays ☺️
This was a wonderful surprise gift! Thank you! You too have a happy holiday and stay safe and well! 💜
Happy holidays!
not watching it in june 2021 but close enough...loved your reaction
I would suggest Sugas explanation. He loves history and based this on that. He actually has some royal family history.
But so does every Min. We gotta take those stories in context. 😂💜
Great reaction....this MV was a piece of art!
And yes, protect Betty White at all costs...love her!
Enjoying your reactions so much. Your added text cracks me up. Almost spewed a mouthful of coffee when the Betty White comment came up.
This was awesome, thank you!! If you haven’t already, I recommend watching Bookish theories explain video for Daechwita! Her videos are always so detailed!
Hope you have a good holiday break!!
Her videos are the best, so detailed.
This is the MV that got me into BTS. I saw this, thought it was amazing and like a movie, so I started looking into more of Agust D. Found The Last and that was it. I went down the rabbit hole.
Btw, there is a behind the scenes, making of video for this that you might find interesting.
I have a feeling that a lot of the more recent fans came through their side projects. Their main BTS projects is a bit heavy on the poppy side
Great song; amazing video. One of my favorites. Nice work with all your references especially Campbell's Hero's Journey.
Lol
You're right about how beautiful and artistic this mv is. It's a shame the west will never appreciate it or any BTS mv for that matter, my opinion 😔 our boys have standards😆
Merry Christmas! I vote for being called Gegels purely so that you can say you have a gaggle of Gegels.
Kinda describes his life. He is now on top. All the people that tried to bring him down well look at him now
Merry Christmas! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for the explanation of the production.
Merry Christmas from Australia !!!!
As always a awesome reaction and a great informative video. Notification bell squad is getting all we wanted.
Random obscure comment about a bit of film history related to your comment about how “we’ve convinced viewers that nighttime is blue.”
I recently got my BA in Film Studies, and would like to distinguish that it’s not a recent thing for viewers to interpret blue to be night and day to be yellow.
Borahae Cedric.. happy holiday.. U r one of my fav reactors now.. will waiting for ur next reaction💜
You are ToooooooooMuch!
Love your channel CG !! 🙋🏻♀️💟
StayGold & MerryChristmas !!! ! !!!
You are very good at articulating your thoughts. Liked the add clips and words. Thanks.
And in the same time they are all the most respectful individuals
Jin is fighting JK by the way.
So it is a delight.
You need to see Deachwita as a two August D person fighting for their own existence
But the golden king has gone mad
he has anyone disapproving him beheaded
We all know since seven we don’t want to know what is in the best box 📦
The peasant king is not as lonely
he rides a car when they all walked and he still have his posses.
The hat is wearing is good to protect from the rain and conceal his identity.
I love this MV too! It’s so good.
We love that Hamilton reference. Kpop and musicals. My favs
Wow, 보라해~*♡
It's really nice to hear it from you^^
my fave part is the eye contact he makes with the butcher/executioner at the beginning who then cuts him free at the end
In my viewing experiences, you are the only reactor to acknowledge the insights provided by Joseph Campbell and his concepts of mythology, especially his book "Hero with a Thousand Faces." And, Campbell was greatly influenced by Carl Jung.
Love watching your reactions. Hope to see many more next year.
Cedric, thank you always provide us with informative reaction
Best Christmas Eve ever !! Thanks Santa...aka Cedric !!! Min Yoongi xox
Yay!!!! Finally!!!!!!!! Bless you Cedric!!! Happy Christmas!!! This is actually the best Chistmas present I could think of!!!!!! Luv ya!!!!!
That surprise was very welcome, thank you, Cedric:-) Happy Christmas to you and your family:-))))
Thanks for the gift! Happy for this reaction, as always we always learn with it. Merry Christmas
First: I feel like repeating myself but thank you again for all the info on the cinematographic aspects. It is always a refreshing new take on content I must have seen a thousand time. I love also your thought process and how you catch on certain details.
Second: Your post ced-ition keeps getting better and better. 😊
Third: Thanx a lot for this little surprise.
Merry Christmas to you, Charmander, and Betty White!! 🎄🔥
i like to look at it as the yoongi from years ago, from his first mixtape being the ruler figure here, and the yoongi of now taking over.
You should watch the 'Shooting Sketch' for this. I personally love watching how they make there mv's. There is also the 'Explained By A Korean' 'DKDKTV
'. There are a lot of slang and cultural references in BTS lyrics and mv's that we just would not understand otherwise. You could react to both a once.
[EPISODE] Agust D '대취타' MV Shooting Sketch - ua-cam.com/video/KWRJ8CUBsXI/v-deo.html
AGUST D - DAECHWITA '대취타' Explained By A Korean - ua-cam.com/video/JayEtmyXVpo/v-deo.html
True dkdktv is brilliant👍🏻
Best part is, though, that the Twitter account for The Lightning Thief Musical then tweeted “hey @BTS_twt let us know if you wanna collab. seems like the fandoms are ready and so are we.”
". . . what he does impacts other people." But also that's just Jinkook in a nutshell.
Stay well
Bookish Theories has a good explanation of this video.
Merry Christmas Cedric, yes very good time to react to our Agust D.
I'm watching this again in July 2021 and you're right, the whole Christmas theme is pretty funny to see in the middle of summer
Thank you. Your reactions are always fun to watch! Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas and thanks for the reaction! May be my favorite mv for 2020!
This video is a masterpiece and worth of Video of the year!
I haven’t watched yet but I have been WAITING for this! 🥳🥳🥳🥳
EDIT: Since you like mythology and cultural references, you should check out the MV for Idol and afterwards, if you want to find out what you've missed, DKDKTV's explanation video. Purple u.
OMG! I've been waiting for this for you to react. Thank you Cedric
It will show that they actually filmed part of the video at dusk without using artificial lighting. He says they got what they needed. Hope to see a reaction on the behind the scenes. Happy holidays. Have a great vacation and New Year! 🎊
I always enjoy your reaction because I learn so much coming from a cinematographer and actor’s perspective. Have a safe holiday. See you next year!!
I feel Suga deserves recognition and awards for this exceptional production!!!! It is brilliant, and he is a genius!!! This IS the best MV of 2020!!!
Santa Cedric gave us a 🎁!!! Yay~ Thank you~💜 I'm sure it's pretty hard to make a reaction video more than I can imagine.. always appreciated your hard work.☺ I can tell how much effort you put it in. This holiday could have been nothing. But you made it special with your surprise. Happy Holidays, Cedric. Merry christmas🎄 Be safe. 보라해💜
All the members have incredible solo songs, I just love my boys, they can just do everything! 💜💜💜💜💜💜
