Thank you very much, this is exactly the lesson i needed, i have a pretty good knowledge of theory , but to apply it is another thing. My approach to learning has been fragmented at best and what you’ve done is make me more aware not to jump around, I know the major scale , and i’m aware of modes but what i need is exactly what you prescribe , don’t look , stay on one string l, listen and visualize, let the increments become second nature as a base, then continue to add sharps and flats as required to play the different modes. This is the difference between playing music and just playing around . Such a simple concept, start at the beginning and don’t move on until you have a good understanding of the feelings and shades those intervals emit . So simple yet so hard, discipline is the key
You're very welcome! Very easy to gain knowledgeable from anywhere but how to digest these.... very important part! Yes, stay with only one thing at time! No jumping around! Fun and dangerous not to learn proper... Theory itself wont change anything! This video is just the way I teach with intervals. Good job! Best to be learn how to be patient via Guitar. Thank you!
I am really focusing this year on getting out of the beginner stage of guitar. I know all the open chords and a few Bar chords and a few scales but my rhythm/timing is awful, and I have no clue what to do with all these scales, but your videos alway inspire me to continue and this year I will push through to another level.
It’s crazy that you made this video now. My teacher just gave me a book on Tuesday by Mick Goodrick (do you know him?) where the first thing he teaches is to practice on one string exactly like this. Amazing. Thank you.
Lets be honest. Guitar is hard. 😂. I wish I was a kid again, having lots of time to study with a proper teacher.. I learned by myself so not the best teacher.
Thanks for your honesty! I totally agree. Just learn guitar okay is easy but learn it so well is super hard! I am still learning. Guitar makes me so humble! I love it so much! Thank you so much!
@@jogmas12 you will be suprised how fast your brain will sort out those problems as long as you stay consistent. One day you will wake up and you’ll just be able to play easier without thinking about it
@@HealthySkepticism777 I always take a short nap and then play it after I wake up when learning something new. I swear it helps me retain it and play it better
this is amazing!! i just learned the pentatonic positions across fretboard and feel so lost because i can't really solo at all. and trying to improvise makes me so demotivated. would really appreciate some direction with these as i cant afford a teacher!!
Thank you so much! One String Approach! Vertical shapes are okay if you can follow melodic motif like Eric Johnson! Learn more triads for the fretboard knowledge. No memorization! Do familiarization! You can join my Guitar Wisdom. Not too expensive.
Tomo, have you ever read the book "The Advancing Guitarist" by Mick Goodrick? One of the first things he recommends is learning to play scales and melodies on one string. Definitely helped me break out of scale shapes, and I think it sounds really nice too!
Thanks for a great approach and some great lessons. But the scales make no sense if you dont eksplain why the flats move through the modes like that…All the best from Denmark
Can i ask how we approach this concept in a different string! For C major for example in the G string should i start from A and be aware the degree of A in the scale in other words should i must know the notes of the scale that i practice and start from the closest note from the neck! (of the scale) and how would i know the degree? How should i need to think about degrees!? Should i know my triads very well and understand where the other degrees are locate in corelation to R,3,5! Thank you for everything i am a student of you at guitar wisdom and you have help me alot already!🙏
Yes! Just follow same Major scale intervals! Try all C Major scale on any string. Please learn this method super slowly without any expectation! Just follow all those notes and intervals! Then triads! You're very welcome! Thank you so much!
Perhaps it would be efficacious to teach your students how to play apoyando with the thumb while playing single string melodies up & down on the 2nd string, 3rd string etc!?
Once a student joins Guitar Wisdom what is the average about time would you expect the student to be a student of Guitar Wisdom say two semesters of your material?
That's very hard to say when because when you are building your foundation solid... cannot rush or expect when too much. I have many lesson videos regarding skill levels & proficiency levels similar to 1-4 semester levels. so you can understand it when you see these videos. Thank you.
Tomo, I am 80+ and I love my guitars. I would like to join Guitar Wisdom. If I run into health reasons and needed to cancel would you be so kind to tell me how I would do that? I would like to pay one month at a time if possible. Thank you.
@@TomoFujitaMusic I heard you say in one of your videos that the cost for Guitar Wisdom was $9.99 per month but I see it is now $19.99 is that correct?
Hmm..now I'm getting it, I remember you mentioned this as well on your other videos but this made it much clearer, I think I prefer this approach of learning the keys and scales this way rather than that whole box shapes. But do you still recommended to learn those shapes Mr. Tomo? Or we're better off learning it this way fully one at a time?
Glad it was helpful! Funny part is If I do this same thing in person...a little more effective! Please watch this video deeply 2-3 times then you will improve your guitar playing a lot! This one is more like in private lesson. No shapes! Just triads! Intervals, inversions! Avoid any easy ways possible if you want to have freedom with guitar playing!
@@TomoFujitaMusic Thanks Mr. Tomo, that's really a good insight to avoid easy ways to play more freely, I'll definitely keep that in mind.
