  • This video is part 1 in what will be a series of videos of me building a 16 foot diorama for 1:64 scale Hot Wheels, Matchbox, M2 etc. diecast cars. This is just part one of multiple videos I will be doing on building my 1/64 scale diorama. I will be sharing tips and ideas that I have learned over the years of doing my dioramas.

      I'm finding some inspiration from Raymond! I don't see a farm in the future of my layout, but it should have a racetrack of some sort. Ramond may want to visit Montana and we could do some tractor racing once his crops are in! 🙂

      Are you doing a video of your track build? Do you have a video of the current track? I see you got videos of you track and diorama but was not sure if they were the current setup, since you have moved. Feel free to post a link. I was just trying to figure out if I want to try and put a track of any sort on my first level shelf. Upper shelf is defiantly going to be a drag strip!

      Moving sucks. Still dealing with moving now. LoL worse is realizing you have too much stuff to organize, pack, and protect to move.

    They look awesome and detailed. 9:04 I understand about the learning curve, and using tips for creating. Plans and process does help. I like the flexibility idea of changing item's. Using same base.

      Thanks. The more I do the more I am trying to figure out how to make things so they can be moved and changed around. Takes some planning which is not the fun part but should make life a little easier if I have to move or change things around.

      @@montanadiecast I agree with you there. Making thing's simple is easier to change stuff. Instead of having permanent builds using too much space.

      There was a knock of simply stamped 28 it sat higher wider better suspension had the big wide tow bar with Jerry cans and the second best bull bar I have seen. I’m sure I still have shell somewhere for it. Best bull bar in a matchbox will always be my number one truck the Scania T142 even though it always reminds me of a Kenworth.

    So cool to see your channel growing! Question on a different subject: Do you have to worry about bears, wolves, mountain lions, etc. in that area? Just wondering.

    • @montanadiecast
      @montanadiecast  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes I am surprised to see my channel grow. Really motivates me to do more videos. As to wild animals, I don't worry about them so much as prepare for them. I could do a video of some of that like the moose video I did when they were here. We have Wolves, mountain lions, coyotes, black bear, moose, elk, deer all the other stuff. Bears are common to showing up at my door! For real at my door and leave prints from standing up against my door! Black Bears are always around except during the winter. Grizzly bears are around, but never had them at the house yet. Wolves and Mountain lions are seen much less because they tend to not want to be seen and they usually hear you long before you see them. But I see the tracks and know they are around. I am sure sometimes they are off in the tree line watching and I just can't see them. You do hear the wolves, coyotes howling at night. Bears are always a big problem here for stuff like chickens. We Had a bear tear into one of our coops and kill the chicken's last fall. But like I say I prepare so I have 2 coops and did not lose everything. First time in 20 plus years I lost a whole coop to a bear! He was a smart fella so now I got to learn to outthink him now! lol. As far as in the mountains we run across bear and such on a regular basis but never really felt a threat from them. And in case they every did present a danger we are always ready with Bear spray, and most of us are always armed all the time.

    What did you use for support the shelf

    • @montanadiecast
      @montanadiecast  2 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for stopping by. It is a frame made of 2x3s from Home Depot. With legs from some scrap 2x2s I had. I will try and remember to show that when I do part 2. I still am building the rest of the shelf.

    How do you keep the dust off of them

    • @montanadiecast
      @montanadiecast  2 місяці тому +1

      That's a good question. I have never really had a big issue with dust on my large open dioramas. But have never had one stay set up for more than a couple years before changing it. My big ones in the past have gotten some dust over time but not bad, and it adds to the look of areas like the junk yard and those places. The cars and other vehicles are always being changed out, so they don't get too dusty. The roads and such can be wiped with a cloth or a Swiffer duster. I use my air compressor set low sometimes on some stuff to blow dust off. I also use a soft paint brush to dust off my cars sometimes if they get dusty. Maybe I will do a video on all this.

    What tools do you suggest for shaping the foam?

    • @montanadiecast
      @montanadiecast  2 місяці тому

      Hi thanks for the question. I just use a razor knife and a long kitchen knife for cutting the foam. On a rare occasion I use a small hand saw on really large pieces of foam. Then I use heat to shape it. Usually a heat gun, or bic lighter. if I am working outside i sometimes use a small propane torch to shape it. Kinda redneck but it works for me. I have seen the fancy heated foam cutters that look great. I am sure they a much more precise for shaping and would be a great thing to use. I have never been willing to pay the money for one since what I do works for me. But you never know I may get one in the future.

      In this video ua-cam.com/video/O1Rb7VZ3HqU/v-deo.html at the 4-minute mark I show an example of one of the ways I shape foam. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
