I was on plateau on keto with IF of 2 meals a day. One day i had a cheat meal of eating carbs, not exceeding 100grams. After that cheat meal, i decided to fast for 24 hours with OMAD. Towards the end of the OMAD before breaking fast, i checked my ketones and i was still in deep ketosis and i lost 1 lbs

I accidentally started carb cycling. I was on keto for about 6 weeks and then got a stomach bug and had to switch to eating plain rice and toast for a week. Went back on keto for another 6 weeks but got sick again and ate normal food (not junk food or sweets) for a week and then started keto again. I have lost more weight than any time before and at this point eating just a few bites makes me so full that I wanna throw up. My food addiction is under control mainly because keto desserts taste good and the food is also delicious with all the butter, cream and fat!

Same! I am at risk for hypothyroidism and pre diabetes. So it’s hard to know how to manage it all. The other day I had what felt like a gall bladder attack after eating bacon. So right now I’ve cycled off of fat and onto carbs to give my gall bladder a chance to catch up. I think it comes down to listening to our bodies. I don’t know if you’re spiritual at all but I swear some days I’m standing in the kitchen and feel like God is directing me to certain foods. It’s easy to say oh that’s just my imagination but maybe we need to listen to those intuitive hits. For example I was at sprouts grocery shopping and I found myself gravitating toward orange foods: butternut squash, sweet potatoes, even apricots. Now that I’m tuned in I feel like I’m getting a lot of “messages/pulls” like this.

I've been on and off keto for years, did keto a year, lost 15 kilo in the process. The year after went back to carbs, gained some and went back to keto.. This is going on almost four years. The problem is when I get back to carbs I will not eat the healthy carbs but a mix of healthy and dirty (mostly dirty), so that means everday is going to be rice/pasta/pizza/ potatoes etc. The thing is, when I'm on carbs I want to eat all the foods that I couldn't eat on keto. It's really hard to keep disciplined when back on carbs. On Keto I can, but on carbs it's very tricky. Maybe a video about this would be nice, what to eat in general and when you do eat the occasional dirty carb, how to keep that under control and get back to daily eating clean carbs again. We can all deny it but I'm pretty sure alot of people will cheat with dirty carbs and will eat that donut or those fries or whatever. It's only human.

I've always eaten absolute junk my entire life. I guess I'm lucky because I don't have metabolic issues that run in my family. I do have cardiovascular though. That said - I'm the same way. The thing is that it's okay to have some of the horrible carbs starting out. But, if you're trying to consume healthier carbs and are constantly craving/hungry. You need to prioritize healthy fats + protein and then add a little bit of carbs to the mix. I cannot live without potatoes, but using an air fryer to french fries or frying up hashbrows in a little bit of olive or avocado oil is perfectly fine. Beans are another favorite, but the real troublemaker is white rice as it's highly glycemic. I try to limit it to only sushi/poke, but it's always very little. The trick is to prioritize protein/fats over the carbs. It's hard to overeat on carbs when your body has lots of protein and some healthy fat. But avoid consuming carbs alone or consuming high fat/high carb junk foods.

Ha ha ha! Pretty much me. If I'm going out of ketosis and screwing up keto...i'm going to screw it up big time. Bad mindset to get into but I'm an 'all or nothing' kind of guy! I'm on 2 months of holidays and I have to say that I've not only fallen off the wagon, but I've gotten up and ran to the front of the wagon, laid down and let it run over me, then doing that again and again. I've put on some extra weight I know. When I get back on a schedule and get back on keto, my plan is to implement Ben Azadi's 'Keto Flex' carb cycling plan just to shake things up. Going to try his '3-3-1' plan. 3 days of strict keto, a 72 hour (3 day) fast and then a low fat feast day utilizing 100-150g of carbs. We shall see how that shakes things up. Might stay strict keto for a month or two to get my body back in the swing with doing intermittent fasting.

Another winner…there is so much to learn and it’s great to have you keeping us in your learning loop.
I have done some shorter term cycling and it’s not what I would recommend to anyone because of the sugar process leading quickly and easily to carb addiction. Plus it seems to be playing havoc with my electrolytes (edema in lower legs and feet).
I’m definitely going to try like 12 weeks on KETO and then take a few weeks to adapt, and then go back to KETO.
I know myself, (Im Fm and almost 59 yrs old) I’m not going to sabotage my health (« not diet ») by eating ridiculous junk. I’ll add nutritious finds like beets and carrots, honey, maple syrup, yellow potatoes, lentils, raw dairy which my body loves, and other things that I know are healthy. I have no desire to use it as an excuse to go nuts on carbs that will break my HEALTH progress.
I’m still working on my thyroid, and that’s not a fast process, I’m being patient.
After my daily fast, my body responds so well to nutritious fat when I eat. (Still have the edema which i really dislike) I’m experimenting with the every other day to fast, rather than daily.
For me it’s all about my hormones and thyroid getting well.
No, not an easy or fast process but surely an excellent pursuit to a good and vibrant life! I’ve overcome many illnesses and I will always continue to move mindfully forward, despite any challenges.

However, for the past week I haven't felt very well at all. I've had like no energy, not sleeping as soundly and just feel like my head is in a fog. I am pre-diabetic and have been doing Keto now for 3 years. My BS are at normal levels. No way am I going to carb cycle. My BSL would probably bounce all over the place. This guy confuses me at times. To much science. He must dream about food. I just want to enjoy my food while keeping my BS down. He seems a lovely guy,but I don't want food to rule my life

@@derryshore5586 I would have said the exact same thing, because I am also prediabetic and have been doing keto for a year. However, I recently got a lipid panel done and my doc is worried about the lipid levels. How to keep the cholesterol and glucose both in line is the question for me.

I was on Keto doing fantastic exploring hiking to places that I could not imagine prior to loosing weight and keto. I started introducing carbs like sweet potatoes but by the time I realized I was fully into the Carb world. I was also loosing hair on keto so thought Carb cycling is best at this point. Its going to be a year now on carb cycle and I am trying so hard to get back on keto. I loved how my body felt on keto inspite of it I get driven towards carb foods. I lost 30 lbs on keto now gained back 10-12 lbs. I want to stop snacking on carbs. I hear your video and that keeps me inspired. Thanks Thomas.

You get keto 'flu' when first going on keto which can last weeks. You get the same 'flu' when coming off keto if you've been doing keto for a long time. The answer is to not do keto for too long. As soon as you feel you're in ketosis cycle in some carbs around workouts or in the evening to aid sleep. Once you start feeling the benefits of the carbs with stronger workouts you can go back into ketosis. Eventually you'll be able to switch almost straight away, many people do keto all day then have carbs in the evening, it works really well and is the best of both worlds. You have to train your fat metabolism with keto and IF first though as that is the one that is neglected the most.

Because I'm fully adapted, I prefer the weekly routine myself. Mon-Fri is strict keto - a couple of those days being OMAD. I also fast between 20-23 hrs each day during the week.
Saturday is healthy carb day. Low fat, high carb - sweet potato, yogurt, oats & fruit. Fast 16 hr.
Sunday is a 23 hr fast & then a cheat meal... as in an Indian takeaway & poppadoms! Not clean but I don't care, lol! I love mango chutney & I love my chicken dhansak & rice.
I do my heaviest workout on that Sunday (during the fast) before my cheat feast. I also fast 23 hrs on Monday to kick off the keto M-F.
    YOLO 😎

Yes. More on carb cycling. Do you intermittent fast on carb cycle? What do macros look like on carb cycle? I’ve been keto for 2.5 years; achieved my ideal weight. I battled my weight, and lost, over my lifetime. Keto was the key to success. You were a great influence in my journey. Thanks! I’m now looking for the next chapter, which is weight and health maintenance.

Yesss please do another/more videos on carb cycling and meal planning ideas. Something else great would be, what meals can we indulge in a bit out at restaurants? I think that 2-3 week "break" from keto and indulging a bit in carbier (but still not garbage) meals would be great. Being able to revisit certain meals or restaurants that you've been avoiding while keto and having that to look forward to could do a world of good for one's happiness and keep them committed to when they're in keto phase.

Keto worked as a Kickstarter and I dropped my first 80 pounds now I stick with 36 hour fast 3x a week, wich equates to 60 hour feeding window per week, trying to find a sustainability, feel great while fasting, but at time I do over eat crap.

Thomas you're one of the reasons I pursued further research into ketosis in the first place, and your information jives with my experience and the literature I've researched.
Having read about metabolic switching and cognitive performance and depression, I've followed long 2-3months keto cyles for about 2 years. I found that the first 6month period of pure keto resulted in adaptation to the point where the energy and mental clarity dimininshed, to base line brainfog and malaise. I climb and run ALOT, longer cycle switching seems to refresh the tolerances and adaptability, the result is that the perceptible benefits on athletic and mental performance are enhanced and extended by each metabolic pathway when alternating.

After going keto, your perspective on carbs is usually altered. For me though, potatoes and beans are the two carbs I can't live without. White rice with poke/sushi is my "guilty" carb that I enjoy. Seem like the only high carbs I need other than some of the higher carb fruits like pineapple, banana, kiwi, etc.

Absolutely, Thomas...I would LOVE to learn more about how to actually do it: which carbs do I cycle in first and how much...for how long? I totally understand what you’re saying about the purpose. Now I need some real training...a plan...how to do it, when and for how long. I’ve lost 45 lbs on keto and Intermittent Fasting. I still have about 10 lbs to go and the weight loss has really slowed down. So I don’t want to slow it down even more by cycling in carbs. But I do want to move into a permanent lifestyle of eating keto to maintain my weight and health. So maybe you could come up with a video that addresses that goal....pretty please? 🙏 Thanks for all you do Thomas...you are a godsend! ❤️

3 months of keto and then do like a week of carb intake. 3-4 days of a keto diet is not at all long enough to actually get real benefits of keto, especially when most people do like 50g of net carbs and do dirty keto on top of that. i do 20g total carbs every other day (one meal every other day) if you want to get into actual ketosis and not just be “low carb” that’s the best way to do it.
