My wife gave me a great suggestion. Wipe a little dish soap on the rubber when installing them in the slats. They slide in much easier.
Great tip! Glad your wife is using her brain, unlike me 🤣
That was after I was 3/4 done. She use to do that kinda stuff at her work place.@@AvoidStealership
Thanks for the helpful video!
You're welcome! Glad you were able to Avoid the Stealership!
Helpful, thank you
Excellent!
I have the roof bars on my 2014 Q5 and recently purchased a “roof tray” (not an official audi part) and we had to move the front bars on the third hole that you mentioned in order to fit the tray properly. Do you know if this will cause a problem? Thanks
I would venture to guess that it would be somewhat less stable simply because all of the 'nubs' are not seated correctly. However, I have no idea how much less stable. If it feels like they are on tight and not moving, then you might be good to go!
Quick question, are these the base carrier bars from Audi? Did it include all parts? Or do I need to buy additional items?
These were base roof racks from the dealership. AFAIK, the only extra thing you might need is the installation tool
@@AvoidStealership Thanks for making this video! Question about the installation tool. Did you have to buy it separately? If so, do you know the part number or name for that tool?
@@reaganabraham1528 my car came with the tool. It was located in the trunk under the floor flip up, under the the plastic bin, and in the tool kit. Also here's a link to the tool BUT I believe there are different patterns (so you can't use one tool to steal everyone's roof racks) so if you really don't have the tool, you might have to go to the dealer (sadly).

^ that video shows where the tool was located
@@AvoidStealership Thanks!! I really appreciate it. I was able to find the tool. It would've been a huge pain to go to the dealership and buy it
Nice video. What year is your q5?
Thank you! It's a 2016
@@AvoidStealership awesome! Do you know what year works for these crossbars? 2016 up to?
@@alexduii These particular crossbars should work for 2008-2017 (B8 family Type 8R). Audi did a redesign for 2017 and I'm not sure if these racks would fit the newer design.
@@alexduii 2018 and up you need the newer version.
Did you have to cut the leather strip that goes in the bracket? If so, what did you use? Thanks
Can you be more specific? I don't think I had a leather strip
@@AvoidStealership sorry, rubber strip on top of the racks. I didn’t realize one rack is shorter than the other. I figured it out, I used scissors to cut the rubber strip.
@@MBroadus Glad you got it to work!
Where in the world is the darn tool?
Mine was in the tool kit in the trunk (pull up the floor)
Does your Q5 use oil???
Yes it does. I have an oil change video for the Q5
