He is such a friendly, enthusiastic and talented musician! It's just fun and a lot of joy to watch him play the guitar. A true guitar hero - my guitar hero! I can't thank you enough for sharing the joy and fun of playing guitar with us!!!
Not only is he one of my favourite ambient guitar players, he also has made my favourite hard guitar picks. His picks have a very unique sound that is hard to describe and I have tried a lot of different versions of the Jazz III pick that exist. I like using thinner Animals as Leaders picks on my Hollow Body guitars for Jazz clean playing, but on my RG2228 I always like to use a Rabea pick.
It's impossible to translate the in-the-room feel of a stereo (or wet/dry/wet) rig. It's something that must be experienced. You can't put it on tape, you can't put in headphones, you can't replicate it with the PA. It's like a pinpoint moment in time that is just for you that'll never exist again. It's glorious! Wish I could sit in the room with you. I love my digital rigs, but there is something primal about a full analog rig. If you really want to blow your mind get put a stereo harmonic trem on the board.
You are one cool dewd Rabea, Rock on my man. And thanks for giving the guitar pics to both my sons last Monday in Utrecht. They had some cool Stories to share at school the next morning!
okay I didn't realise what was going on with the amps until 4:23 but then it hit me, by running the preamp into the other you can control all the eq from one amp while still using the power section of both for that stereo sound. This must be insanely useful not just for studio but live as well.
I still don't understand it completely, if you wire one preamp via I presume the effect loop out into the other amp's main input, then effectively the first amp's power section is bypassed, no?
@@iamnumber4 The trick is to use a pedal that has a mono in and a stereo out. So one amp's preamp goes in, and two signals come out, which you can then plug into two different power sections.
I’m guessing he’s going into amp 1, then effects send to delay, then the delay has stereo outputs. One goes to effects return of amp 1, the other goes to effects return of amp 2. I don’t think you need an additional splitter pedal other than the stereo delay (which acts as the splitter). Does that sound right?
Wow! I absolutely love the tones coming from that thing! Boss just make some amazing gear! Thanks for demoing this Rabea. You make it sound just incredible! Cheers!
Rabea, I really enjoy all of your music but my favorite is when you play ambient guitar. It really showcases your versatile talent. You play with finesse and lots of emotion that translates to raw pure organic sound. I am fan.
Don't reduce him to that, he's a god damn human being! Jk yeah he's so natural and honed into his own style, there's an emotion or an aura of some kind that is really consistent for me when I listen to his playing, even if he plays a wide range of stuff, there's something central or signature to him that I dig
Every time I hear this pedal it twists my ear in a really joyful way. The price point and my satisfaction with my current board has kept me from actually getting one. But I am trying to justify it.
Fantastic! Finally a demo of the dm101 that shows a taste of its stereo capabilities. Be great to see a deeper video going thru all the stereo engines. Been watching hour playing since early Andertons days and you've grown into an incredible musician Rabea.... an inspiration to all us guitar freaks of all ages!
Sounds huge man! Really liked the sound of the DS1 also. The DS1 was my first pedal I bought back in the late 80’s which I had modified back before modded pedals were common place. If only I knew there would be a market for that later on. 🤘
I played a BOSS DD20 for many years in a certain way that utilized the looping as well as the delay. I always noticed it had a similar “out of the way” quality that other delays I’ve used don’t have. - they make your next move hard to articulate in some cases and it’s hard to find the right mix balance to hear it clearly, while not overrunning your progressions. 🧠nice video🧠
The big mean orange stompbox. My absolute favorite distortion/overdrive of all time. The tone circuit is amazing and very sensitive. It can go from a rectifier on steroids to a edge of breakup fender bassman tone with just a slight tweek of the tone and gain knobs. Probably the most versatile distortion pedal on the planet.
Great tones. The quality of sound out of Boss has been great when I have used Boss products. On occasion, I have used Boss stuff, but my experience with boss support really gives me pause in considering anything Boss. Stereo analog and switchable delay is a neat trick…. Going to have to think about this one.
Absolutely unreal demo, Rabea! Been enjoying your videos for years and this one is one of your best in terms of the performance (I dare say you may have outdone yourself with this one). As it happens I have this pedal and yes it is absolutely glorious and dead simple to use. Worth every penny imho. Great work!
Love how that waza ds -1 is working for you into the kraken. Need a little clarification on the routing - preamp of one = it’s in the fx loop of the other? And then how is stereo achieved? Trying to picture the cabling is hurting my brain. Ooh when the trails feed back a little bit then fade… MM My favorite.
Rabea, maybe you've done this already...but writing an entire fully produced song using this pedal would be awesome. Lets see how it sounds in a mix, and you could break the individual parts down (ala Pete Thorn). Cheers!
Just to be clear cuz I got lost.. you're pluged in into kraken 1, and then fx loop out into the pedals and split, back into fxloop of the kraken 1, and the other signal straight into fxloop return of kraken 2?
Hey Rabea, I'm sure you have the ears of someone at Boss/Roland. Since you're kind of like an unofficial AmBossador ;) I had this idea, why might be rubbish, but I wonder what people think... Was thinking, maybe Roland/Boss should do a modular JC50/100. Where the head can detach from these monopod cabs, lego style. And also maybe could have monoblock power amplifiers, so maybe basic model could be a 50 watt monoblock, that snaps into a single 1x10". But you can snap together two 50 monoblock heads, and two 1x10" speakers to get a stereo JC 100 (a fixed electrical contact rather than cables). Then maybe do the speakers in 8", 10" and 12" size for practice/recording, rehearsal and larger gig. And with different flavours of speaker too. Maybe a modular snap in chorus too, that can be a CE or a Dimension. Snapins for spring reverb tank, friedman style tube preamp snapin would be be ace too. Sort of like the API lunchbox format, or eurorack modular but for guitar amps. Make any sense?
I understand that one amp is using just the pre-amp, driving into the power-amp section of the other amp, but i'm struggling to understand the benefit - can someone enlighten me? (great video as always)
So if I understand correctly the signal chain are : 1 kraken send into the delay pedal in "mono" and the two out of the delays goes into the return of the two kraken ? so the second kraken is just use as only a power amp ? can someone confirm that ?
with a setup like that it doesn't matter the type of the second amps ? If rabea put the second out of the delay into the return of an another amp such the 5150 it gives him the sound of the kraken in stereo but without the need to have two kraken ?
@@jeremyfiorito3594You can use a different amp or a standalone power amp, yes. Just as long as you are aware that power sections do have a tonal character, and some you may like more/less than others
It’s not true stereo. It has a mono input so it can’t retain a stereo signal from anything in front of it. Too bad, because otherwise it would be perfect on an aux bus in a studio.
It's a nice piece of kit, but the Suhr Discovery was better for me. The screen, the filters, and the sound are more useable. It's mono, but other than that outshines the DM-101 for me.
Guys, if you are listening to this with crappy phone speakers, please go get some headphones. You really will thank me later. Have a wonderful day, all.
Yeah…it’s been really annoying for those of us who run stereo rigs to find so many delays that are either just mono or mono in and stereo out. It’s just taken all the analog options off the table if you wanted something like a stereo chorus before the delay. That said, I’ve been happy with many of the digital options. But this new Boss delay is tempting for that reason alone.
