    - Being in rock ‘n’ roll for so long, how did you escape the rock lifestyle and never got into any scandal?
    I was raised by great parents whose respect I never wanted to lose, and abusing myself was certainly not the way to keep their respect.
    - You never dabbled with drugs either. Was it due to you having a pharmacology degree?
    No. It was because I saw how destructive it was, and how it dulled your sensibilities and ate up your talent and your life.

    • @jayrusnak
      @jayrusnak 4 роки тому +11

      Depends on what you mean by "drugs". Ronnie certainly liked his booze as much as the next guy and smoked plenty of weed. Harder stuff, no.

      It's interesting reading those facts about guys we look up to, like Dio. Imperfections are part of what make us human, so knowing about those things help us connect better. The false image of perfection only creates a gap between us as humans and artists as idols. Dio was one of the most human guys outside of the stage from all I read about him.

    Doug Aldrich is not only a great guitarist, he is a super nice guy. Have seen him in Vegas twice now. He signs autographs and takes pictures with his fans. That was a testament to his long standing relationship with Ronnie James Dio. Ronnie was big on that. Performing for the fans and respecting the fans.

      A young Doug met Randy Rhoads back in 1981. He was blown away with how cool and friendly Randy was. A week later Doug has the chance to see Randy again (he was doing gigs with Dubrow while on a short break from Ozzy). Doug walks in and sees Randy. Randy says, "Hey Doug, what's up man?". I think Doug took that lesson from Randy. Humble, gracious and appreciative of what he has. Randy to a tee.

      Don't like to be that dude but it is FREDDIE! NOT FEADDY ☺...anyhow i did it since i ike Queen but hey i like Dio to...why FREDDIE WAS THAT GOOD IS HIS IMPRESSIVE RANGE AND POWER in voice, he could sing anything from lady like soprano up to baritone and bass even covering amazing range + he had super clear voice. Simpy God was in great mood when FM was born so he sliced huge peace of talent and range for him ☺. When FM sings with full power dam it was impossible clear and pls don't forget he was and will be probably the only one who had guts to sing beside best opera singer of that time! Dio is great no doubt but you hear him only in that ''power ''mode baritone more toward bass mix. each is legend by his own right,.

      I believe Blackmore and keyboardist David Stone worked on the progression.

    I believe the ex-Rainbow Keyboard player David Stone, co-wrote this epic tune,albeit uncredited. This song,Tarot Woman and Sign Of The Southern Cross, all on the set list.I have the dvd of this show.

    My first concert was Richie Blackmore's Rainbow in 1976. My buddies had been to concerts before so they knew to get there early so that we could race to the edge of the stage. When the curtain opened and the music started my mind was blown. I still regard it as the best concert I've ever seen. This is a great performance of Gates of Babylon. Everyone in the band is kicking ass. The guitar solo is very complex and Doug kills it. I agree with another's comment that he's a super nice guy. I made some custom guitar parts for him a number of years ago and he's an incredibly friendly person.

      Nah, he's just pretty ok. The mix is really good though so that's why the bass cuts through so nicely. Geezer Butler has way more power and feel (as do many other metal bass legends)

    Oh man. The original is fantastic ofcourse, but downtuning it a bit and slowing down the tempo makes it even better! It grooves harder and somehow that riff becomes pure evil. I like it!! :-)

    • @RushfanUK
      @RushfanUK 8 років тому +2

      +Ernie Ball Downtuned cause bless him Ronnie couldn't handle the top end any more, as for the tempo it makes this leaden and lumpy, solo loses all of Blackmore's subtle touch, Dio was an awesome singer but as he was coming towards the end like all great singers the voice lost some of it's best, RIP RJD will always remember him at his top.
