I bought the heavy duty class v gen y after watching one of their videos a few years back and what a difference it has made in towing. I have a trailer that pulls hard on the tongue due to axle location and this hitch made it unnoticeable, yes it is expensive and yes it is pricey but bought it and have never looked back (other than making sure it is still there and hasn’t been stolen)
I bought a 15k Mega a few months back with the iron grip security/anti rattle pins. This thing is a beast and I get zero hitch movement with the iron grip pins as well.
Can someone explain the 7k rating paired with the 500lb tongue weight limit? Seems odd to me to specifically design such a hitch, and even more strange that the Rebel X Tactical I looked up on their site shows 7k/700lb.
Dont be the guy that tries to go through an automatic car wash with a hitch like that. Unless you want to ruin that attendants day or have to back out. Something some truck owners seem to overlook.
I believe UA-cam requires them to state if the video is a paid promotion. My guess is this particular video is not since Andre didnt mention it. However like Volvo said TFL regularly works with GenY so you can expect more videos in the future to likely state that sponsorship deal.
Now that folks, is excessive packaging! I'd like to own one of these but here in Canada the prices are extreme,.. just look it up! ( Thank god there are competitive hitches out there.)
@@lonely4wd Yes, that is a possibility for sure,.. my main drawbacks are 'geography, i.e. shipping costs, customs duties, dollar exchange rates and then brokerage fees. So to sum up then, whatever a given item is priced at in the U.S. I would pretty well have to double that by the time is reaches my 'grubbby little hands, here in Canada. my thing with these is it puts your ball even furthur back from the axle. Does this not create an undesirable towing dynamic? isn't sway and hitch weight even worse the furthur back you go?

Can someone explain american tow hitches to me? They seem so weird. Like why do they have different heights, and why are the balls different sizes? Is there not one single standard like we have in europe?
Different heights are so your trailer can sit level no matter the height of your receiver on your vehicle. For example, I have an Ford f450 4x4 on a 10 inch lift and 40 inch tall tires. My receiver hitch is like 3 feet off the ground at least, so I need to drop down where the trailer ball is in order for my trailer to sit level. As for the different size balls, they are rated for different weights. There’s no reason why I jet ski trailer needs a ball that’s rated for 15,000 pounds, so they have smaller balls that are rated for their weight (typically around 2-3,000 pounds). Likewise, my big bumper pull race trailer has a bigger ball, because fully loaded it can weigh up to around 16,000 pounds.
The big thing Jakob is the EU standard is the lightest standard for North America. If you listen to the ball sizes Andre mentions in the video the eu is a 2 inch or 50 mm ball and that is almost the lightest standard, you can only tow about 7,000 pounds. The 2 inch ball is not big enough to tow 20,000 pounds. You see the eu follows the lowest common denominator standard instead of having the ability to tow a 20,000 stacker trailer or enclosed trailer. When tfl tows with the pickups they exceed the weight that is safe to tow with the lowest standard for towing weight, so they use the bigger ball size for more weight. Also in the USA if you listen he says 10% of the weight on the tongue, the eu standard of 7% is to light for good stability. Uk does have some nice 2 horse very light trailers but we could not pull a large camper or 4-10 animal trailer on the lowest standard. I know the one size fits all is easier, but in real life using the lowest possible standard does not allow for real life in the USA. In the UK with 10 foot wide roads I see why they are so low of weights but the USA road standards are wider and most trailering will exceed the lowest standard. When Andre reviews a M2 Freightliner or a large super C motor home if you listen they will have tow weights of 20,000 even up to 30,000 on some big trucks.
@@badgerpa9 yeah well the main difference is that you need a license for towing over 750kg over here, so the vast majority of people dont, other than some larger caravans or car trailers. I didn't realise some american tow balls were so large, cause in eu trucks have a different system for towing, like a kingpin sortof deal. Also a lot of people just use their tractor to pull large trailers.
@@JakobSGames The big semi-trailer are pulled with a fifth wheel which uses a king pin, also pintle hitches are used for some types of larger trailers. The larger tow balls are for goose neck trailers and some standard hitch trailers will be large enough for larger tow balls. Horse trailers, stacker trailers and trailers pulled behind large motor homes will use larger towball. Most (not all) large campers will use a fifth wheel attachment. Stay safe.

The packaging may actually have more load capacity than the hitch
I’ve had my B&W 10” tri-ball for 17yrs. Grease the pins at every oil change and oil the ball pivot shank. Never one issue and it sees up to 12k.
I just picked up my B&W tri-ball tow and stow hitch and am so impressed with it.

I priced out hitches last fall when mine were stolen. Gen y looked nice but I ended up going B&W tow n stow for a lot cheaper.
As with all "unboxing" events - don't care to see you open the box and fumble with packaging. Place the item on a table/tailgate and explain the item.

Either one of these new Rebel hitches would work! Either 5,000 lbs and 7,000 lbs - depending on your trailer.
It will only take 100 lbs off your payload rating......
