Jerry Goldsmith; what a tremendous musical talent. Much like how Cherubini was overshadowed in his time by Beethoven, his music may have been given less general acclaim than the likes of John Williams and Hans Zimmer, but it is no less extraordinary. And then again, once in a while, he managed to rise above his contemporaries with something truly magnificent (certainly in the case of the Star Trek: The Motion Picture soundtrack, and this little number). If there is a heaven, then Jerry Goldsmith is directing the choir.
Cherubini with Beethoven, not unlike Scolari with Mozart, Domingo with Pavarotti, ...the list goes on and on... unfortunately. SO MANY that would've been "rock stars" in their day... had not ONE OTHER PERSON not been born at a similar timeperiod. "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride." 😀
This is one of the most emotional and inspirational pieces of music ever! For the scene in the film it is perfect. But even more so as a stand alone, self indulgent piece. Absolutely brilliant!
Sean Connery is the best King Arthur ever. Should have won an Oscar for it!!!! And the score is indefinable, yet so full of meaning encapsulating this great Motion Picture with intent & great wonder beyond our highest expectations of life & the meaning thereof. Long Live Camelot for ever beyond time & wonder.....RMA.....
I AGREE completely. TOO MANY railed against this movie, which is ridiculous! I REALLY liked this movie at the time, and like it even more today! I MISS "good" movies - entertaining, great time with friends, etc. ...before the days of the "politically correct" and "woke" nazis! Too many seem so damned offended... ALL THE BLASTED TIME! It's like the wake-up LOOKING FORWARD to being offended... by someone... ANYONE... that has the misfortune of coming in contact with them... at the most unfortunate time. TO BE SURE, (and I can't figure out how, exactly) but someone WILL be offended by this movie, re-telling a seemingly ancient tale. It's supposed to be good, ol' fashioned FUN, ENJOYABLE! Instead, too many today "read" too much into EVERY DAMNED THING! No one can say ANYTHING without SOMEONE getting their nose out-of-joint!!! Good grief! Well, if being "offended" is "where it's at." FINE! I'm offended! I'm offended by all those that get offended... for seemingly NO LEGITIMATE REASON AT ALL! (Stick that in your pipe and smoke it!) 😀
WITH THAT SAME SPIRIT, but in REAL LIFE, we NEED to do so here in the USA at present; never more crucial than NOW! "I command you all... TO FIGHT; NEVER SURRENDER!!!" to the Leftist/Globalist/Communist/Socialist/Fascist/Naziist/Totalitarian regime both here and abroad!!! GOD BLESS THE USA! May her flag FOREVER fly free... until the RETURN OF THE (REAL) KING! Blessings!
Many do not realize that the cost of peace is expensive.Lives are lost for it, and leaders;those of which have righteous heart become sacrificed for peace! Those who give their lives should be remembered for their bravery. They lay down their own life so those who are frightened can live free!
Jonathan Martin 4 years ago Agreed. And bad, corrupted, power hungry people like former U.S President Donald Trump himself don't even, and will NEVER ever EVER truly understand what it means to be a proper True Leader.
The song from the beginning up to 4:36 is very moving. It’s both beautiful and sad at the same time. It touches because it has highs and lows just like the life of a person. Listening to it is experiencing a whole life in a song happiness joy loss sadness life death.
You're not alone. It was deeply moving to me when I saw it for the first time, 5th grade. Now, 25 years later, I've experienced so many more emotions up to this point with living life, falling in love, experiencing loss, having a family, etc. My capacity to feel is greater and the music is even more powerful. John Barry's music has the same effect on me. Can't hold back the emotions.
The cue titles for this and 'Arthur's Farewell' seem to have gotten mixed up on the original release. This is a magical cue and one of the highlights of Goldsmith's 1990's work.
a little bit, but of course jerry goldsmith was the one that gave star trek one of its main themes and did some music for some of star trek, so it probably would sound somewhat like star trek.
The music truly makes the film , the film is very good in parts , but the music is magnificent .
most beautiful melody ending ever
RIP Sean Connery October 31st 2020 :(

This Song is Very Powerful! Perfect for a Funeral for A King!
I guess it's kind of off topic but do anybody know of a good website to stream new tv shows online?

His Star Trek Voyager Theme sounds a lot like this score.
+Olaf Weyer listen to Star Trek first contact specifically, it's so similar and beautiful

"In serving eachother, We become free." We need this today more then ever.
I love this soundrack, especially this composition.
Knights, it is near to the time. Wake from your sleep brothers for thine heart lies in camelot. She lives

LegoSPQR: Oh my God, thank you. It's wonderful too. It's in favorites now
Another similar is from the same composer, Jerry Goldsmith - A New Life

Godspeed home, Mr. Connery.
Einer meiner Lieblingsfilme mit Sean Connery.
I love this!!

where can i find the soundtrack of the final battle with malagant and the 1st knight?
@FortuneNeko That is also posted; it's called Arthur's Farewell.
4:36 in case you need it
Excalibur is the better film, but this soundtrack is absolutely fantastic.
And even so, this is still better than King Arthurs 2004 and 2017.
By several leagues.
@FortuneNeko its called arthurs farewell
for now I like more the video "First Knight-Night Battle
@Gawaine687 thanks for the quick reply m8.

Great cast. Immense soundtrack. Poor movie. What a shame ...
