I tried the glove, just couldn't keep it from turning when I applied max force. Could have tried a stronger grip perhaps but it wasn't feeling safe anymore :) I don't doubt it's a technique that works for some though.

I managed to hold the nut in place by squeezing it between a heavy metal door and its frame, after trying and failing with various other things for 2 hours. 😅

Interesting idea - using a tool with a shaft that already has holes in it that you can attach the chain (as opposed to drilling holes or welding, etc.)
Or get some channel lock pliers and an old leather glove to hold it in place. Works like a charm.

I used an old chain and held it together with a pair of vise grips. I used a pair of needle nose pliers. It worked well
You just need a semi-non-movable post to wrap the chain around. I used my car jack handle on the upright position. Worked great.
Still a bit unstable imho, but a decent idea!

You can easily make a set with half of a pair of pliers. Disassemble an old pair of pliers and attach a chain to the hole where the Bolt went.
