You completely forgot to turn on the navigation radar, leave it at standby for about 5 minutes. When the red light next to the knob goes out, you put it on land our sea as required (fields ops vs carrier ops).
Noob question... Isn't the radar supposed to be turned on only after takeoff? Since the radar dish emits a lot of radiation and that would not be really nice for the ground crew. Thanks guys.
@ usually the nav radar and the radar altimeter should be turned on before takeoff, when ground crew is not near the aircraft any more.

This plane no longer has nose wheel steering, you have to steer by using the brakes on the left and right wheel to turn. They did this because the actual a4 does not have it.

yeah, this totally messed up my following the tutorial... i got hung up on this and couldn't really figure out how to use differential braking and ended up stuck against a ground light.... GAH!
Well that explains me falling off the carrier...
Decided to learn this plane first. It was the first jet I saw in person when they were used by the Blue Angels. Navy planes are the best!

When is GR going to use the A-4E in some missions? It's a very capable attack plane.
They did awhile back but complained about the damage model and ground handling (pre efm)

Dear Cap, would you happen to have the axis curve settings for this aircraft? Seems to be too "twitchy" on the roll.
Unfortunately, I don't have a 2 foot long stick in between my legs like you do. ;)
I use a curve of 25 on the A-4, the highest of any aircraft I fly in DCS. For reference, my typical curve is around 5, so you will need to scale the value to suit your tastes.
I use a 25 curve on both pitch and roll, plus a 50 sat Y on roll which halves the maximum roll rate down to 360°/s, but gives me a lot better control. And it's still insane. Works well on the FFB2, even with the force trim which is modelled here (on some planes - like the Flankers, curves arent's that great with such a stick as the curves don't apply to the forces and the trim range isn't enough anymore then)
I used to use +25 for all axis in all A/C with old stick.
for me i have to set frickin' 40 on my extreme3dpro and 25 for yaw.... this thing is flippy man.....

Cap, how do you identify if Friend or Foe from the HUD gunsight in the F-16? Is there a way to tell without the radar? I see that in the F-15 there is an "X" over friendlies, but I can't get that to come up in the F-16.
All u get in 16 is Radar and HSD screen. Red = baddies Green = goodies.

They fixed the NWS range two days ago (develop branch).
Still have to try that. Looks like it's twice as big now if I understood the description correctly. So it's even easier to tip the thing over XD - but also easier to turn in tight spaces on a flight deck.
@@CakePrincessCelestia It looks more like the fix wasn't as much about the NWS parameters themselves after all, as it was about properly aligning the animation of the nose wheel to the factual trajectory of it. Guess I was simply feeding it very small pedal inputs (as is at all possible with TFRP with no curves), so I didn't have much problem with steering the plane around. Although, yeah, turning at speed can indeed look scary.
Okay that's great and all, but what about Navigation?... You're just gonna take off without knowing where you are or where you're going?..

Hey Cap, there is no Nose Steering Wheel in this Mod. is there another way of moving around in the field? or isthere a change in the name for the keybind ??
The A-4 uses differential braking. You'll find your binds under Wheel Brake Left - On else Off and Wheel Brake Right - On else Off
CalI know when starting the a4 the throttle is pulled ALL the way back..( further that it nornaly travels...and STARTING the a4 the throttle pops out to the right and forward to start the engine. ( so far no issue) BUT, i can NOT reverse that same process when shutting down ( or even restarting) i can NOT get the throttle to go PAST ( back/left) the normal operating position.
What am i missing? is there a LEVER..BUTTON ?? KNOB??? something i can not see...or have found in any video or manual. Please someone HELP
The mouse can NOT do the same thing it does to bring the throttle forward from its locking position...to park it/ put it BACK in it's lock/parking position.
he entire throttle is UN-CLICKABLE returning it to cutoff/parking position...i can Only click it OUT of the Far back ( locked/parked) position....i can NOT return it to the same place no matter what i do..where i click it...have spen HOURS trying to find/figure out how to get it to return to cutoff with no luck!
MAYDAY..not many hairs left 🙂 need help.

I know it's an older video but I literally don't have a NWS option or command lol I have to start in the air or on runway every time.
So I just downloaded the latest edition to the a4e and now I cannot increase the throttle after doing the exact start up sequence. Very confused please help!
That's what happened to me my first try, i right clicked after it was at 10% and it did nothing. Did it again but right clicked as soon as it hit 5% and then again at 15% and it started up
the navy pilots called that ground power unit the penguin i have no idea why but that's what they called it

My nose wheel steering doesn't work and I find myself not being able to turn enough or turning to much using brakes and throwing myself into the grass

As far as I know this mod doesn't have a manual. We had to learn it by trial and error.

I am only missing the "communication menu" (0:23) and I can't find the "rearming and refueling window" as well. I did download the latest version 1.4 last weekend and I am completely excited. I am lazy. Is there an "auto-start" button that gets all bits and bobs where they should be? I like the flight and weapons knowledge but couldn't care less about the start-up checklist sequence.
