I was jealous of the sound quality in my wife's brand-new BMW with the Harmon Kardon speakers, so I got one of these from Crutchfield for my 2005 MINI (that came without the Harmon Kardon option). This is the first time I've bought an amp for a car (usually I prefer just listening to the engine with music as an afterthought, if the stereo's on at all). Crutchfield didn't have a harness for my car so I had to have a professional to install it. The installer ran the key test without setting my head unit's tone and bass to neutral. It sounded way better than it did before installation, but I ran the test again after getting home and now it sounds amazing! No need to adjust the tone or bass, I just have them dead in the middle. I'm using this amp with the stock head unit, Focal ICU 130 speakers (set to high) and Infinity Reference 375TX tweeters in the doors, and the stock 6x9s in the rear. Not sure if it sounds as good as my wife's car, but it's pretty close. If you're thinking about this amp, I highly recommend it.
So frustrated right now, I finished the bi amp key setup, all fine, happy tone, the music was playing nicely, moved to gain matching and fried both tweeters with the 50hz test tone, no limiter red light was shown or anything. I'm still trying to understand why the amp was sending such low frequencies to the tweeter. What could have happened, fader was OFF, Bi amp on, kicker EQ off, compression OFF, using just front channels, woofers connected to hear outputs, tweeter to front outputs. Didn't the Key setup separate the frequencies properly? why the tweeter got burned while woofer was not even close to limit and red light didn't come up?
I am sorry to hear that you are frustrated. Did you purchase your Kicker KEY200.4 amp from Crutchfield? We provide lifetime Technical Support and have folks manning the phones 7-days a week to help. With Bi-amp mode engaged and the KEY auto setup performed correctly, the tweeters receive a 3.2kHz 24dB/oct High Pass filter.
"Has a 40 band eq so you can customize the sound to your liking." I think this might be slightly misleading. From my research it seems like you can only do a flat eq or the "Kicker Sound" eq curve.
I really like this, i bought it at crutchfield, the problem is it’s almost a week and a half and I haven’t install it cos still waiting for the wiring harness which crutchfield didn’t suggest at checkout. And it doesn’t come with wiring instruction, or where it should be tap. 🤯 but they made sure that i buy the battery wiring for the power source.
At this time, we do not carry harnesses to help install an amp like this into a vehicle. We do give lifetime technical support for all products purchased from us and include our technical support department's direct dial phone number on the order invoice. They can help give recommendations on where to install it. They also can help with the wiring on things like identifying the wires to use and how to cut/splice that wiring to the amps inputs/outputs. If you do not have your invoice handy, I recommend calling us on 1-800-955-9091 so we can find your order and then connect you to the next available technician
@@crutchfield I have a component JL C150 and rockford 6.5 midranges. As far as wiring goes I just help my buddies do it and drank a few beers in the process.
That sounds like fun times! If you all connected the JL Audio component speakers system to two of the channels and the midranges to the other two channels, it could work. You may need devices to limit the audio that is going to the 2 channels with the midrange drivers.

The Focal 165AS component set comes with a crossover included. Using the included crossover is required as using anything other than the included crossover provided by Focal will not guarantee the best sound quality. You can use the Kicker KEY 200.4 amplifier in Bi-Amp Mode where the onboard DSP applies a 3.2kHz 24dB/oct high-pass filter for the tweeters, and a 3.2kHz low-pass for the woofers.
The Kicker Key200.4 does take up a small amount of space. The amplifier measures 7-3/8"W x 1-11/16"H x 2-3/4"D and can be installed in a hidden location.
Thanks for those details! The JBL stadium speakers do have a lower ohm, but when still connected to the stock wiring should be right at 4 ohms. This DSP amp can work in your vehicle and work with those speakers as long as you reuse the stock speaker wire. The stock amp should be found under passenger's side front seat.
Just bought this from crutchfield, and plan on using it with the Kicker KSS650 for the front speakers and tweeter and the kicker 51kss269 for the rear speakers will I run into any issues or modifications? Or will it work just fine?
You can use the Kicker KEY 4-channel amplifier for the front Kicker components and the rear 51KSS269 speakers since they are both 4-ohm impedance. The amplifier is a custom install item and will need to be wired into your specific vehicle with power/ground and signal input and output connections. The Crutchfield CK12 wiring kit in the first link below is required, and the 9-wire in the second link can help make the install easier. www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc166/p_007CK12/Crutchfield-CK12.html www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc166/p_007CSW9W20/Crutchfield-CSW9W-20-Speaker-Wire.html
