I'd be shocked if Texas misses the CFP. Oregon is the only other "newbie" in the Big Ten/SEC that has a legit shot at making it.

    That is bold

I don’t know how USC is going to make the playoffs when they have 6 potential loses that looks like the easiest bet ever for them not to make it.

My bold prediction: At one 3-loss team makes it into CFP, every season.

I've seen a lot of people in the B1G and SEC wheelhouse talking about stuff like this, and I have to wonder what we're actually going to see this season.
The SEC loved to protect their teams by having all their PAC/BIG 12 match-ups be on "neutral" fields that just so happened to be in a state that only the SEC played in. There was no LSU-Oregon game somewhere in California. And the Big 12 has actually done fairly well against the SEC and B1G in very limited game time. Big 12 was actually 3-1 against the SEC last year with wins against Alabama, Arkansas, and Texas A&M.
I don't really think it'll play out this way necessarily, but the respective big 2 conferences are expecting to gobble up these outside teams, and I'm most interested in seeing if a Texas or Oklahoma could run roughshod in the SEC. Texas especially was given a gift of a schedule. Finish the season against the Gators (who has Georgia the previous week, and LSU the next week), and then Texas A&M, while Oklahoma is gifted Alabama at home, and LSU on the road to end their season?
Then there's the presumptive crowning of Ohio State in the B1G. Their schedule looks deceptively easy, especially with Michigan and Iowa at home. But there's a tough road trip to State College, and that's not even their toughest test. I know they've got some talent, but they're plugging in a new QB, a whole bevvy of talent at key positions, and they're traveling to Eugene, OR to play the Ducks. That's just under 2,500 miles. Last year the furthest the Buckeyes traveled from home was about 500 miles to Piscataway New Jersey. I don't know the last time Ohio State played a regular season game on the west coast, but their most recent 1,000 mile travels were 2018 @TCU and in 2019 they went a bit under that @Nebraska (around 850 miles from Columbus). They have @ MSU and home against Iowa to figure out their team identity before traveling across the country to face a team eager to prove a point (who also came to Columbus in 2021 and beat the buckeyes in their own house, but that was a different team with a different coach).
I'm not confident enough to bet my own money on it (I also hate gambling in general, but that's a personal issue heh), but I wouldn't be surprised to see new teams dominating their respective conferences. Even SMU coming into the much weaker ACC has a chance to win 10 games as they have two more "obvious" losses again FSU and Louisville, but avoid Miami and Clemson. Honestly the whole ACC, though it's very much following the Miami pre-season hype that never happens, but the conference looks better than it ever has in years prospect wise (kind of like how the Pac 12 genuinely had one of its best years in decades while it was actively on the death bed, the irony is truly bitter). GaTech and VaTech look like they found the right coaches and are making recoveries. Louisville and NC State have been steadily becoming much more competent teams these last few years and have built teams that in the SEC would probably be a tier 2 ala Ole Miss or LSU. Good teams, but never quite good enough to crack the top. Clemson is down, but they have the talent (and frankly they lost three of their four games by a touchdown or less, and two of those in OT) to turn it around. FSU reloaded, and Miami is either going to be a top 10 team or lose 5 games they shouldn't like they always do. Even within that SMU could still win a bunch of games and just be another team in the ACC that's close to 10 wins.
Next year has the potential to be a mess, and even more of a mess because the East Coast and Mid-West powers are now looking at sending teams out west and further west for the first time in ages. I'm excited about the prospect of their supremacy being challenged even if it is now internally. Those of us who know will smile inwardly because the pac 12 and big 12 will live on in those potential wins.

Josh, which 2 teams that have made the playoffs at least once the last 10 years has the best chance to miss the 12 team playoff this year.
    Anthony in Alabama!

Honestly both Texas and Oregon each got a 50% chance of either winning the conference and having an automatic bid to the semifinals or winning the first game of the playoff

    Texas @ Michigan Sep. 7th
    Texas vs OU Oct. 12th
    Georgia @ Texas Oct. 19th
    Texas @ Texas A&M Nov 30th
IMO it’s going to be hard for TX to make the playoff with those teams in the schedule . Oregon has a better chance, but with Ohio State , @ Michigan Nov.2nd , & @Wisconsin Nov. 16th I doubt they make the playoffs either .

I agree with Texas. But Michigan is regressing this year as their natty team went to the draft or graduated. And Wisconsin still haven't found their footing under Fickell. A 1 or 2 loss Oregon is in.

You realize that if Texas goes 2-2 in those 4 games you mentioned and wins the other 8 they make the playoff at 10-2 easily, right?
