- The complex was initially built and inhabited by Qajar dynasty of monarchs in the 19th century. After extensive expansions, Reza Shah of the Pahlavi dynasty resided there in the 1920s. His son, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, moved there in the 1970s. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter stayed in the palace during a visit to Iran to guarantee U.S. support for the regime. After the 1979 Revolution, the complex became a public museum.

The Shah was dying of cancer. He had lost military backing and the US made a HUGE MISTAKE not staying involved to keep a progressive regime in power. Instead they just evacuated the Shah, family and Shah's gold.

Well done to the Islamic Republic for preserving all of these historical items. Surely if it was another Middle Eastern country, the entire palace would have been ransacked and looted. Atleast the people can go back in time and revisit how the former royals lived.

One Iranian nationals living in France ( French passport holder also) once told me that Khomini was very good for the Iranian interest. Shah era was good only for F*U*C*K*I*N*G ( extra marital). So it is clear . Ok.

I think these palaces were for the most part very elegant and quite lovely, but some of the rooms (especially the mirrored ones) strike me as gaudy and ostentatious. It's all a matter of taste.

Actually the complex includes several palaces. Each palace used to have a use-case in different period of time.
I just covered interesting parts of the complex in the video.
The whole complex is 180 hectare.

That was the problem. They should have neve rallowed Carter to stay in the palace. A hotel room was sufficient for him.

He’s not a real shah though. He’s a shah in name only. It’s like the maharajas in India or the descendants of the French royal family or the Korean royal family or the Qing dynasty or Italy or the princes of Germany. They’re not real royalty.
