“These are the things you do when you’ve met your basic needs as a human being” 😂
A splendid little observation with a healthy dollop of realism dropped in as a little kick to the nuts. 🤣
A metaphor for Western problems.
Agreed. I have been to a model village, and it was interesting for a second.
UK really looking like the eldari. Glad we chose model villages and not absolute depravity though
Which can be said for many/most of the things we in the west spend our time on.
“This is not what a lesbian on television looks like, people!” Still one of Sandi’s best lines.
"My tits came out well!"
_"Still, my tits came out well..."_
Definitely rivalled by "But my tits came out well, so...".
Another problem is that tiny Sandy is, ironically, not tiny enough.
I thought at first it was she wasn't wearing glasses. I couldn't see her stand up enough to know if she ever wore a skirt.
This was the first thing going through my mind as well, compared to the others 😊
I was waiting for someone on the show to say that, and wondering if they would get the klaxon.
Oh Alan, I'm relating soooo hard! My dad used to do the exact same thing - except with all the holiday homes and hotel rooms we stayed in! No-one was allowed to be in the frame, or talk, as he panned around the bedrooms, then the bathroom, then the living space and kitchenette - and the resulting videos were like a cross between an estate agents' pitch and a Crimewatch reconstruction (but somehow even *less* exciting.)
My grandads commentary over the videos from our holidays was always so funny. Whenever he filmed the villas we were in were the best. Just the most dull delivery possible of lines like, “This is the kitchen” and then slowly panning across the kitchen or describing what he thinks is particularly interesting about our dishwasher. Then walking slowly over to the lounge area “This is the lounge” and so on. It wasn’t until we discovered giving it to my younger brother was even more hilarious we stopped having that.
Giving a kid a camcorder and telling him to film the bits of the Villa he thinks is most noteworthy and then him just filming the fridge and pointing out how much wine is in there for my Nan or just filming down a drain hole and fuck all else. It was best when we first did it and no one decided to check if he had actually filmed anything decent, getting back home, setting up the tv and just seeing the utter tripe he’s tried his best on. So much fun.
At least your father didn't sexually abuse you, like Alan's
@@jaymercer4692 These are what core memories are made of!
they 100% should have given Sandy the same shirt as het miniature for this episode
And a padded bra...
Genius!
I was fortunate enough to see 2 recordings of this show this month-March-And I have to say it was absolutely brilliant, Sandi is extremely funny and naturally quick witted. The bits you will not see on TV, the outtakes, were equally hilarious.
I'd recommend any one going to see it if you get a chance.
How does one go about being in the audience for these?
I would absolutely love to!
@@theangryintern You basically put your name down a list and it's chosen at random.
@@wildsteOf course, if you've never been *shown* the list you're a bit ............. aren't you?.
@@Farweasel What?
“My tits came out well”
Still laughing at that Sandy!
😂
Apparently still laughing at it twice :)
@@PotentiallyAndy Best!
Okay I get your points!
Said the stripper to the bishop. 🤣
But "that's not what a lesbian on television looks like!"
Fun fact: we have an amusement park in The Netherlands consisting of a model of The Netherlands. All of it. 😄 It's called Madurodam.
I've been there it's "geweldig"
In Italy we have Minitalia
I've been to both of those, on account of being from both countries...
@@rcrdtlo this brought back memories, i've been to minitalia actually
It is build with a grant of the family Maduro from the Dutch Antilles. Their son George Maduro came to the Netherlands to fight the Nazi's in WW2 and he was killed.
3:35 “This is not what a lesbian on television looks like” 😂😂😂😂😂
On the other hand Fielding…
Starting to think Alan & I were separated at birth! We're the same age, both did 'jumping up & down on a lava flow' and now the model villages. My parents didn't have a cine camera but family holiday photos from the same period seem to be all of model villages. Their children? No, just lots of tiny houses....
(Edit: One notable difference: I have *not* shat on Hampstead Heath!)
Yet.
Me thinks the lady doth protest too much xD
Something to look forward to then. Or plan. 😉
@@andybrooks7228 Yet.
Yet.
There's still time.
The model village at Bourton-on-the-Water (in the Cotswolds) is fascinating. Well worth a visit... with your cine camera , eh Alan 😆
I live just up the road from Bourton-on-the-Water (pronounced Boorton, not Burton) and the model village is indeed brilliant. The entire village is reproduced in full, down to updated shop names and even the colour of doors on houses.
I mean, I bloody LOVE a model village (yes, I know…) but this one is particularly good :)
I have been to Bekonscot Model Village a couple of times, once as a child, and once with my brother's family including his 7 year old daughter. It is a wonderful, intrinsically British place, and I heartily recommend it to anyone who is in the area (Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire)
Christopher Dean - I went in 1989 - when I was doing my OE from New Zealand. - still have my photos.
Didn't realise it was so old. Regards
this is def one of my faves. thank you
That last line though - 🤣
Loyiso fucking killed me in this one. 😂
Needs a greengrocer called ‘Harry Coverts’
“My tits came out well” Still laughing at that Sandy!
That bears repeating
@@MeppyMan Well, some things just naturally come in pairs.
This video is complete,...... there's even a small Sandi at the end after the main bit. :)
Have to go see Bekonscot. Any model village with a zeppelin is a must-see.
Loyiso Gola seems to be experiencing culture shock. :-) So funny.
This QI hit me more than usual with the feeling of, "each comedian has their schtick, and they can be counted on to milk it". Why bring up Uganda. Sandi's so broad, why rely on the lesbian jokes.
@@AllenKnutson ???
@@AllenKnutsonbecause comedians talk about their lives and experiences as part of their comedy... Is this your first day on planet earth? 😂
It's okay, Sandi. Your teats always present well.
I just thought: Russian Dolls..
Beautiful :)
That end line!!
Oh my...lol.... larfed so hard. 😁 😁 Love Sandi ❤️❤️🥰😘
automatic closed captions blocked again? *depression*😢 I have such envy of those with zero hearing challenges.
It's even worse for an official TV show clip. They should have the captions from the actual broadcast available to them.
Don't know whether I'd like Sandi to adopt me, be my cool grandmother or date me. ❤❤😂😂😂
Also, Godshill model village on the Isle of Wight. Great place to visit. They too have a depiction of a model village within a model village and so forth.
Mum used to take us to Bekonscot when we were kids. As we lived in the area of Slough right between the Trading Estate and the edges of Britwell, it was pure escapism. We even used to get an ice cream if we behaved.
Tiny Sandi also seems to be wearing Rachel Parris' face.
In Canada, when I was a child, there was an “attraction” by the Trans Canada Highway called the Sasquatch Cave. We never went. But I can imagine it was pretty dismal. The 1960s. A simpler time.
A highway exclusively for transsexuals?
I bet it had some local tall guy in a gorilla suit inside…
Villageception!
Any Shooting Stars fans in the comments? This question has "What could be more nostalgic than a child sitting on a fire?" energy.
The Queens Museum of Art has a panoramic model of the entire city of New York. It was originally made for the 1964 World's Fair and it's periodically updated.
I thought Sandi was already Tiny Sandi?
In Pennsylvania, there used to be an attraction called Roadside America. It was a model railroad and countryside display that was interactive.
One MercilesMing - I just had a look - what a shame they dismantled it. Looked really neat. Regards N.Z.
@@joanne4758 I went in first grade, 1956. I went again in the mid 1970s. It had deteriorated somewhat by then. In 1956, there was a life-sized display of an area Indian raid (I always thought it was the one written of in the book, A Light in the Forest, which Disney made into a movie.) There was a gift shop, too. The story was that the original builder used to climb one of the local hills and was fascinated by how tiny the village and roads and railroads looked to him, and, so, he began to build his miniature America. He was a devout man and loved America. At the end of the tour, there was an electronic rainstorm, then night "fell" and his display lit up. Just before you left, there was a tribute to the Blessed Mother, and the National Anthem played. I loved it as a 6 year old and, again, in my mid-20s. I suppose that he and his children are all gone to their great reward now, so I'm not surprised it's dismantled. Still, it's a shame.
there's a similar model village 'wormhole' in Corfe (near the castle)
The village is called Burton-on-the-Water, but the model village is called Droste.
The model village on the Isle of Wight is a model of the full sized village it's in and it therefore has a model village within it and that has a model village within it etc etc etc.
Burton-on-the-Water! I've been there! I have a picture of the village within the village within the village! Yeah, I know: sign of a life well-lived, ain't it?
Yes! This is the good stuff !
I wonder if the Xhosa version of quaint is the same as Andrew Marvell’s in To His Coy Mistress?
I feel like there was a joke set up there and Sandi couldn't be arsed.
Little question: would a model village be useful for village development planning?
Little answer: maybe but computers are faster.
Not so much anymore but people definitely used to make models of this sort of thing. If you go to university for architecture you spend a lot of time learning how to make model houses.
Shout out to Swiss Miniature in Lugano!
Her miniature was much too tall!
I always thought quaint meant small and cute but like in a simple way. I didn’t know it meant old. Usually when someone is using quaint they’re describing something small. I’ve been using it wrong my whole life then.
In The Netherlands we've got Madurodam
Sandi is really falling into her role on Qi...
i was gonna say it was too tall.
Wait... she isn't 'Tiny Sandi'?
Perhaps, "When tiny Sandi met very tiny Sandi"?
It's a shame Susan Calman (or Slightly Tinier Sandi) wasn't in this episode.
If she is 'Tiny Sandi' then that implies that, somewhere there is a regular-sized or even a giant-sized sandi.
👀
We’ve all been on holidays with our dads or grandads and had to watch the videos and photos of our holiday when we get back. Then we just find out what the hell our elderly male relatives thought was worth filming.
I’ve never experienced that. My family never shared the photos when we got back. I have no idea what photos my dad was taking on his fancy camera. Why does he even have a fancy expensive camera? He barely ever takes photos, my mum is always taking artsy photos on her phone and my dad never takes photos. I’ve seen him use his camera like twice.
Anyone else hear the idles song when watching this?
I thought Little Sandi was Aisling Bea.
Which on is tiny Sandy?
Did they though?
stuck sandi's head on an angela merkel
Perky.
c'mon QI. It's 2022. Add captions to your vids.
Isn't it ridiculous that the auto captions are always turned off in their videos? I've left multiple messages before about it...
That's not what lesbian on TV looks like, priceless. But does she remember the damned intro to the ssandwhich quiz...
I see that in my nightmares.
Tiny Town in Colorado started in 1915, and opened to the public in 1920, 102 years ago.
It’s ‘Bore-ton’, not Burton. Grrrrrrr!
Is xosa the language where you have clicks for certain letters
Yes, one of them. Trevor Noah demonstrated when he was on QI
What's wrong with the model of Sandi? It's too big.
lyme regis gang rise up
Also what is wrong with it, is she is the same height as the others! ^^
Sandi Toksvig pronounce Bourton-on-the-Water wrong. Who's Burton? I live in the Cotswolds not too far from Bourton-on-the-Water not once I've heard it's as Burton.
Are you alright?
@@jackmehoffe9372 yes thanks
@@honeybadgergl then give her a break. It's not her first language

"I don't think people in Uganda are worried about this stuff"
Welcome to Western society!
Mr Uganda doesn't understand whimsy, pity for him lol
You just know you’re watching a BBC programme when a lesbian, has to announce she’s a lesbian, just to remind you if you weren’t sure she was a lesbian. 👏
The longest sitting member of the panel is the least funny.

Modern QI
?
Oh no you poor thing! You had to endure seeing somebody that didn't look like you. Do you need a support group?
I don't know how to break it to you, but if by 'minority' you mean 'homosexual', I have some news for you about Stephen Fry...
Seriously mate, why the F'ck do you put yourself through watching something that makes you so miserable?
Go out and find something that makes you happy. Do something with your life, but get over yourself.
Isn't it bed time in England? Go to bed.
It's about time Alan quit. He wasn't funny 20 years ago and he isn't funny now.
He is, though.
Sandi thinks he's hilarious, so don't bet on it.
@@JimC Sandi knows* he’s hilarious.
Seeing how Alan was in every episode but one of qi, don't you think it is silly to watch qi when you dont enjoy the main attraction
There is plenty of other stuff to watch.
@@dreed100 There hasn’t even been *one* episode with no Alan; even the one where he was absent for most of it (so he could watch a football game) still had him there at the start! 🤣
Why do people do this to themselves‽
