  • You have been asking for some great heatless hairstyles and I'm excited to share the tutorial for this Dutch Crown Braid.
    My only tutorial featuring this braid is a few years old and included a flower crown so I thought it was time for an updated version. This is one of my very favorite heatless hairstyles and I always wear this throughout the entire summer. It's great for beach days, camping, boating, travel, whatever your summer plans entail!
    Let me know what you think in the comments below and whether you plan to wear this look this summer! xo, Missy
    Supplies: Paddle brush, rattail comb, bobby pins, hairspray.

    I just got my first job and I have reeeeeaaaally long hair. I'd love to see a video for work hairstyles to keep your hair out of the way and stay put.

      How long IS your hair? Mine is a bit longer than waist length. Did you find any work hairstyles? I'm looking for some as well. Oh, you can see my hair on FB at Elisa Denk, to get a better idea.

    Sue, I find it really hard to switch hands when braiding, any tips and tricks to learn this technique? Thanks so much!

    • @LynxChan
      @LynxChan 5 років тому +17

      I also have a really hard time with this. The only thing I've found that works is this:
      - Start normally at the front of your head, trying to stay as close to the scalp as possible. Once you get to the first ear..
      - Keep the hand on the same side as the ear where it is. With the other hand pass its strand to the one with the other two. Keep focus on that strand so you don't forget which one to pass back.
      - Take your now free hand (which should be crossed in front of you to the opposite ear) and go over your head with it, as if you were going to scratch your back. From that position switch the strand you handed over back to that hand, and continue the braid.
      It's hard without seeing it, but the important thing is that you have to concentrate on which strand you handed over and which strand is now due to go under the braid. Ideally, make it so it's the same exact strand, so you know the one switching hands is the one you now have to collect hair for and put under the braid. Good luck!

      Have you tried braiding your hair before it's completely dry?

    • @rj3892
      @rj3892 7 років тому +1

      Qammar Farooq I have super fine hair too and I have a few tips that work for me! Definitely try working w damp hair as suggested above 👍👍 If I'm starting w dry hair I'll wet my hands and run them through or use a spray bottle w water. And 2nd or 3rd day hair will braid WAY better than clean hair. Also I will spray some hairspray, texturizing spray, or dry shampoo throughout my hair, down to a few inches from the ends (not just at the scalp). Esp if I really want to braid freshly washed hair it gives a bit of texture to hold it all together.
      😉 Good luck!

    • @rj3892
      @rj3892 7 років тому +1

      Another thing that is great for thin hair (or any hair 😉) is a simple homemade hairspray I make- in a spray bottle mix 2 tsp of sea salt, 1-2 tsp lemon juice, and 8 drops of rosemary oil, then fill to the top with water and shake. The salt gives texture, the lemon will gently lighten your hair in the sun and the rosemary oil is optional since it's not cheap, but it conditions, encourages growth and soothes your scalp! If you have an itchy or dry scalp you can also add a few drops of tea tree oil 😄 Lmk if you try it!
