- You have been asking for some great heatless hairstyles and I'm excited to share the tutorial for this Dutch Crown Braid.
My only tutorial featuring this braid is a few years old and included a flower crown so I thought it was time for an updated version. This is one of my very favorite heatless hairstyles and I always wear this throughout the entire summer. It's great for beach days, camping, boating, travel, whatever your summer plans entail!
Let me know what you think in the comments below and whether you plan to wear this look this summer! xo, Missy
Supplies: Paddle brush, rattail comb, bobby pins, hairspray.

I just got my first job and I have reeeeeaaaally long hair. I'd love to see a video for work hairstyles to keep your hair out of the way and stay put.
How long IS your hair? Mine is a bit longer than waist length. Did you find any work hairstyles? I'm looking for some as well. Oh, you can see my hair on FB at Elisa Denk, to get a better idea.
Wow. I’ve watched three tutorials and no one was able to do the back and wrap it around as good as you. That was really impressive.
You make it look easy. I need to practice, practice, practice. My arms get so tired. haha
Sue, I find it really hard to switch hands when braiding, any tips and tricks to learn this technique? Thanks so much!
I also have a really hard time with this. The only thing I've found that works is this:
- Start normally at the front of your head, trying to stay as close to the scalp as possible. Once you get to the first ear..
- Keep the hand on the same side as the ear where it is. With the other hand pass its strand to the one with the other two. Keep focus on that strand so you don't forget which one to pass back.
- Take your now free hand (which should be crossed in front of you to the opposite ear) and go over your head with it, as if you were going to scratch your back. From that position switch the strand you handed over back to that hand, and continue the braid.
It's hard without seeing it, but the important thing is that you have to concentrate on which strand you handed over and which strand is now due to go under the braid. Ideally, make it so it's the same exact strand, so you know the one switching hands is the one you now have to collect hair for and put under the braid. Good luck!
LynxChan thankyou soo much! That helped me alot
I've been a subscriber for a long time. I have medium length dreadlocks. Your tutorials are heaven sent for me!! They are great for all hairtypes. Thank you for each and every hairstyle you showcase. They've been lifesavers for bad hair days.
This looks so beautiful!
definitely going to try it💕 love your videos so much!
FINALLY got it! I finally figured out the hands, thank you!!
That hairstyle looks really good on You! I have super long hair and have a hard time with crown braids, but you inspire me to try!

You make it look so easy! I found your videos looking for help to braid my 3 year olds hair!
I just wore this style to a wedding and it was the first of your hairstyles that I actually tried out for a "real purpose". After a couple of times of practising I actually made it! :) Thanks so much for making this possible, I got a lot of compliments for the hairstyle :))
I love your hair tutorials. You seem to be getting more and more confident with each video you do. I can see more of your personality coming out too!! Have you got any tips for getting over the nerves? Ive been doing hair videos for a year and still get sooo nervous doing the voice overs. I feel like people can hear my nerves 😭 💕💕

Thanks. I had tried this braid for my daughter based on a still photo but it wasn't coming out right. Your video has very clear instructions.
ahh, you make this look like it won't kill your arms! Love the braid! Wait, can you try a five strand Dutch braid?
Soo beautiful
Your trick for avoiding the dreaded bumb is SO awesome!! 😄 I can't wait to try it, I always get to that point of a halo braid and mess it up switching hands while also trying to keep my braid positioned upwards 😒 Thanks for another fantastic tutorial! ❤❤❤
Ria Johnson I have the same problem too, and my braid got messed up at the very same position! (>_
i love this braid i love the video💗💗💙💙
Me encanta !
I love ur videos!! And ur eye colour is so beautiful...!

wow this is so cool hairstyle thankyou messy mam 😘😘
Tried this on my brown to blonde ombre hair, the blonde looks like a hairpiece I've attached to the top of my head over the brown haha, love this hairstyle but it definitely looks better on hair that's consistent top to bottom!! I'll have to save it for later 😂
Youre the cutest!!!! Love your videos :)))

Любимая передача причесок!!!Лучшая из всех!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow! most beautiful..
think I gonna try this on my mother. she love having her hair in a crown, but she just braid it like a regular braid and twist it around her head. she have super long hair...2 feet at least.
how long does your hair have to be in order for this to work and can it work for curly hair?
wow❤
Can you make a video on starbust braid
How do you get the braid flat?? I always pull my hair tight and it stands up on my hair a lot
Practice practice and practice😀
preciosa...❤❤❤
You make it look so easy!!! But it is very difficult!!! 😢
love your eyes
soo beautiful but whin I do my hair like that it dosent look good because I have a long hair. ...but I liked the hairstyle ✔✔✔✔❤💙
💜💜💜💜
can this be made in curls
When I try and do this my braid doesn't reach the other side, am I doing something wrong? Or is my hair just too short?
haha mine fits around my head twice and it looks quite stupid to pin that much extra hair to my head
You might be braiding too tight or yea your hair might be too short
I try this and my entire hair got knot up
I did not know how to do it and it was hard to switch hands
I did this to my daughter
are you adding hair to the middle strand of hair only?
hi
I have a fringe so does it work for fringes?
Yes, just leave the fringe out of the braid 👌
ur soo cute 😍😍love all ur vedio &love u so much
❤😍💓💕
Of course it looks gorgeous when you've got the manes of a Norse Goddess. Not so much when you have the same locks as Smeagol.
*Tries to braid her wacky little hair bits*
Pretty does your hands ever burn while braiding?
Do you have a tutorial of how to switch hands? That's where I always get messed up!
Looks so easy to do but I can't 😭
missy my hair's quite thick and i have tried this hairstyle and it just wont stay put! i use lots of bobby pins to secure it but the braid would just fall. what should i do? can you give me any tips n tricks please
Have you tried braiding your hair before it's completely dry?
Qammar Farooq I have super fine hair too and I have a few tips that work for me! Definitely try working w damp hair as suggested above 👍👍 If I'm starting w dry hair I'll wet my hands and run them through or use a spray bottle w water. And 2nd or 3rd day hair will braid WAY better than clean hair. Also I will spray some hairspray, texturizing spray, or dry shampoo throughout my hair, down to a few inches from the ends (not just at the scalp). Esp if I really want to braid freshly washed hair it gives a bit of texture to hold it all together.
😉 Good luck!
Another thing that is great for thin hair (or any hair 😉) is a simple homemade hairspray I make- in a spray bottle mix 2 tsp of sea salt, 1-2 tsp lemon juice, and 8 drops of rosemary oil, then fill to the top with water and shake. The salt gives texture, the lemon will gently lighten your hair in the sun and the rosemary oil is optional since it's not cheap, but it conditions, encourages growth and soothes your scalp! If you have an itchy or dry scalp you can also add a few drops of tea tree oil 😄 Lmk if you try it!
h06anbjo i havent but i think itll be quite hard as my hair is thick. but i'll give it a try
Ria Johnson but my hair is thick and its hard to braid it while its damp
missy sue me gustaria que pusieras subtitulos en espanol pliz
i did it but need more practice lol
what are you from?
The only thing that's hard : How I switch my hands?
hi
It works on long hair well too! 🤍🤍
Good to know!
why do you make it look so easy??? or is it my hair that's not suitable for the hairstyle? I tried and it looked like a mess, the eand of the braid had hairs sticking out. I love this hairstyle but apparently cannot wear it :'(
Yo no entiendo nada de lo que dices....Pero te ves buena onda 😅😆
I can’t effin do it😩😩😩
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
IT is very hard for me 😂.
I don't have enough hair for this when I finish the braid my hair will not meet on my head
Was gonna try this then I realised my hair is snapped from bleach and growing back random shit tufts after childbirth so this just ain't gonna work unless I put a wig on. Just an absolute zero for braiding.
This was the most inspiring story I've ever had the pleasure of reading! I really hope your nephew recovers from his car accident and they finally treat his cancer! My prayers go out to you! ♥️♥️♥️
Hmmmm do I have 2 hours to waste so I can get my hair up like this? Decisions, decisions 😂😂🤣
Are you related to Frankin stien such a big forehead?!
I wish you showed how long your hair is without being tied. Thanks for the video! Favorite method as the others are much less seamless and too messy for me.
