From a lot of feedback in comments simplygon does not offer a free download anymore which is unfortunate. My previous tutorial using BLOSM is a bit more complicated but I believe should work as a workaround until I find another software:
ua-cam.com/video/isBjX7LS3IE/v-deo.html
hi thank you! did you found a workaround so far? Otherwise I will do it the "old way"
@@TheMrsCubeman I haven't. Old way is the way for now.
I used the Simple Bake add-on ($20) in Blender in place of Simplygon and got it to work. I baked in Cycles following the example from the creator's video on the the Blender Market Simple Bake page.
@@byDevCreates Using render docs, how to I get it to the correct scale?
@@whiskeyAnimation use google earth (check previous tutorial) - you measure 2 points at real world scale and then scale the mesh in blender
Subscribed, great tutorial
Great vid. Thanks! New to blender and trying to get blosm into Maya with something reasonable. This is perfect.
When you are removing the building at 21:00 an alternative method that offers some degree of control would be to make a plane shape to match the area you wish to remove, place it directly above the area and in top down view knife project cut. Then you can remove precisely what you want making a clean edge.
nicely done
16:15, can we use udims for baking because single large image take lot of time. Specially for recap photo.
Hey Man, can you please show us, how to properly install the simplygon add on, cause I’m getting an Import Error 😢
Is there a way to crop after you comppleted steps up to exporting to Recap Photo?
i have trouble installing the simplygon plugin in blender 4.0, do you know an alternative plugin? Thanks a lot in advance
What if you have recap photo 2023? Rcp and rcs can’t be produced in newer version
It is possible to export with georeferenced coordinates? This point cloud comes without georeferencing.
Thank you so much. This worked but i had to edit some code for the Simplygon addon to work, but now it all works
What changes did you make to the code? I am also running into an error: 'Simplygon initialization error: SIMPLYGON_{}_PATH not set'
I have no idea how to fix this
What's the remdering engine did you use evee or cycles?
When I import it into Revit it doesn't have the embedded graphic only the multi color grid
Rewatching. Better than a like (did that last time).
Doing this on a mac, trying to capture 3d buildings from Reykjavík, very recently added to google maps. These are not importing, instead I'm getting what looks like a ground elevation map. I'm guessing it's something on google's servers rather than on my side, but do tell me if I'm wrong!
Hello, I just found out that Blosm has released an update in wich they support Single Tile Import. It should be now possible to import just a single 3D tile from google 3d, offering greater control over the data. Isn't this the needed replacement for Simplygon?
Hi Dev, Can you work this offline like if you were to download a whole square map of your target? -it may requires alot of storage- and where are you located at? Thanks Cedric, CA
How can I export this without using Simplygon with the textures?
thanks man
and they dare to say they're making things more easier and faster and blabla...years ago I used to open google earth and download any models right from it just by click and save ...but I think they need also to make other people benefit from all of that so they locked it ans you need 1000 interwoven softs to get just something that will be at the best in the background of your scene. or project...
Sympligon is not free anymore unfortunatly. any suggestion to replace it?
I think gltf is best for export becoz it can even open in browser as well.
In order to use this, the interactive 3D map must already be uploaded to Google, right? I think we will pull this data from there.
Your tutorial is so good and detailed that it leave no doubt. I will definitely try it, however i have to first arrange debit card.
try with revolut. it is easy and fast to set
Can be done without it search other tutorials.
Very nice tuto ! But I have a problem I cannot solve : when I select the area I want on the map, when the import is finished in Blender, I get a much larger size than the one I had selected. I have checked the coordinates that are pasted in Belnder : it is perfectly correct, but when the import finishes, I get a site 5 or 6 times larger than the one selected !
Any idea that could help me to solve this ???
its more of a google problem than a blosm or blender one. the size of the 3D tiles is set by Google, so if you only select a portion of one 3d tile, it will import the entire 3d tile
@@blanesolis I don't think that's it. I can see the outline of the tiles and I should have about 10 of them given the size of my selection rectangle. Instead I have hundreds. Blosm imported 1/4 of the city I'm working in, not the single block I selected. Thanks for your feedback in any case.
How can I import materials and textures from Blender into SketchUp? Why is my model white after importing? I am using SketchUp 2021.
Im having this issue "Unable to process the root URI of the 3D Tiles"
Cheers Bro
how did you get such nice textures, is there a paid plugin or something, how to do it
Hi there,
Thanks so much for the video!
Unfortunately I am running into a problem that's blocking me from moving forward.
I'm having an issue when trying to enable Simplygon onto blender. When I go to check the Add on to enable it, I get an error message:
Simplygon initialization error: SIMPLYGON_10_PATH not set
I am using Blender 4.0. I've looked up the error message but can't find anything about it online.
Please let me know if you can help!
Ran into something similar, dwongraded to 3.6 and there it works.
Hello people, do you know if there is a way right now to download Simplygon?
Can you do another tutorial that shows how to do this with blosm and a different image packing plugin now that Simplygon is not free?
Hi Guys, how do i get simplygon? seems impossible in the website.
Is there any way to eliminate or reduce the weird grid that is created when you import these Google tiles?
Not that I know of at the moment :(
Can I export an STL file of the terrain/buildings etc when you have the mesh from Google in blender? Thanks
you can , but its the worst mesh ever, dont use it for 3d print.
Very nice tutorial! But I have a problem. Simplygon isn't working for me. I did everything as you taught in the video, but when I click on "Process", regardless of the number I put in "OutputMaterialSettings", Blender starts to become unresponsive and never finishes the process. After a while it responds again, but Simplygon's progress remains at 0 and now I can click on everything. Do you have any idea what it could be?
This error is happening

i got the same issue, i believe is the size of my mesh@@matheusguerra827

I have installed Simplygon as suggested. While running the texture width and height process in the app, it says simpygon license not valid. Please help.
I believe you need to sign in with your microsoft account.
Can you provide a tutorial on how to merge various level of details into one export for Enscape?
Will check this out. Good request.
Revit point cloud didnot come with the materials like with you in the video ?
I left 100 point /m2
check the original fbx/obj and see if material is embedded in there? Also check the file size, im the video i mentioned how if its too large recap wont process textures.
It is working with material inside recap but when I import it to revit come without texture
@@byDevCreates
wich recap version did you use? i cant export a rcs file from an imported fbx file.
I can't Install Simplygon 10 into Blender 4.0?? I get a "traceback error"
I had to download 3.6.5 blender
I cannot get Blosm to work properly in Blender. Error message or "not responding". Then Simplygon would not load into Blender. I have had a friend try this out and he got same messages. Need some hepl!
just need to apply a python fix: C.scene.blosm.cacheJsonFiles = False
I select the area, but it gets 2D. I select Google 3D with buildings with more details. is this not available in Turkey?
Hey there, check google maps (regularly) and see if you have 3D buildings. I guess if its not there in that mode then nothing can extracted.
Hi there! I am quite new to this way of importing 3d maps. I have viewed your video, but I am stuck at the type of Google account I need. Is it Google Map account or what is the specific account that is required. Ideally, I will be using it for the sole purpose of importing 3d terrain and maps and for architectural projects. So pls can help to illuminate me about what type of account I need to get an API key? How does this Google Map account relate to the Google account, which I already have.
You just need your standard google account (one you use with gmail/youtube etc). Then you create a project and get a specific key which you tie to your account. It's not a seperate Google map account, it's just letting your account access this information. 3:40 should explain.
@@byDevCreates Thank you for the prompt reply. This is just what is confusing, I can't see where to go to credentials in the Google account. And this link 3:40 you referred me to, is showing it is a Google Cloud account which is different from a Google account. In a Google account, you don't need your credit card details. It's really confusing, I can't see all those features, to create an API key from a Google account.
@@byDevCreates Hello there! Please can you bring more illumination to this? I can't see how I can achieve this with standard Google Account. Although you say that in your video, but the page you went to, which has Credentials is titled Google Cloud/Google Maps Platform which is a Google Cloud Account. Pls clarify.
@@adegokekeshinro4315 go to the credientials page and sign in with your regular google account
@@byDevCreates I have given up on this! I was all the time already signed in to my Google account. After putting my credit card in, my account was suspended. After so many trials to contact Google, I finally got to them on the phone, and they emailed me to upload my information. I followed the link they sent and uploaded the information, and the next day I received an email that I uploaded the information through an incorrect form. Can you imagine? They sent me that link. I queried that, and no reply. One other thing I noticed is the initial emails I received saying my billing account was suspended, as the temporary charge to verify my account was never sent to my credit card details (tried many times and received no temporary charge), so I couldn't verify my account; that's why they made me upload my information; then these initial emails disappeared from my Gmail account. I know I didn't delete them. Everything looks suspicious to me. Now they have my personal information, and I will just wait for another day to see if I get a reply from them. If I don't, I will cancel my credit card with my bank. Google is so terrible at support. Very hard to get to talk to them, and very bad at replying to emails. The whole thing looks like a scam, to me. Looks like they deleted those initial emails from my account after getting my information, to erase any trace of their history with me. This has been going on for a week now, just to allow me to download Google 3D maps. Too complicated.
can you recommend hardware for some sort of smooth process?
main thing is a powerful processor i believe, you might need a gpu with good vram and high ram in general depending how big your extracts are.
Texture resolutions should by default always be at power of (x2)
ex: 1024 - 2048 - 4096 - 8192 - 16384 and so on
What if you don't have a credit card?
simplygon doesnt work for me, getting errors.
i had to close Blender before installing Simplygon
Thanks! Is it legal?
For non-commercial usage I believe so. You can read more about it here: developers.google.com/maps/documentation/tile
Sympligon is $35K license requiring to download ROTFL
There has to be an easier way.
I can't understand your english bro
