4:16 you could add some brushes right in front of minecart's front wheels to prevent sticks and other trash from derailing. Your traveling between bioms would be safer.
At 9:20 this is a irl phenomenon called ‘hunting oscillation’. And in reference with your case. The flanges of the brake drums are hitting the track at higher speeds making the ride quality seem more unstable. The best way to eliminate this is to change the wheel profile of the brake drum to be more conical in nature while tuning the flange-track gap on your set. At high speeds the hunting oscillations become too much for the train and the constant bouncing of the flanges causes sufficient friction in balance with the torque of the motor which gives you this top speed of 26mph. There are some cases where hunting oscillation can derail the train as the repeated bouncing can simply throw your wheels of the track. This also happens with regular trains passenger, freight, tankers, etc. Upvote to get @Joel Creates to see this to possibly help his design :) More information can be found here (there are 2 useful gifs at the start to demonstrate the effect): en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunting_oscillation
the back-and forth bouncing at higher speeds is caused by the angle of the train wheels. The angle is necessary to go around corners properly, but the greater the angle, the more it tends to oscillate at higher speeds. A flatter wheel is better at higher speeds, but can't turn as sharp of a corner.
And on top of the train wheels there is also variables like how the track was laid If using jointed rails that essentially butt up together and then bolted, that is commonly not perfectly straight so there will be slight lateral motion transferred to anything running on the tracks
the fact that this man didn't decide to give up when his mind told him that this could be to hard is incredible.keep up the good work joel! hope to see more of these types of videos!
The stick on the tracks causing the minecart to derail was so funny, it's just like that old bug from 1.4 where minecarts collided with dropped item stacks on the tracks :)
The shaking was due to hunting oscillation. This is the same effect that happens on the DLR in London. To reduce this you could add yaw dampers and increase the weight of the vehicle
Both Minecraft-y and in general, nice! I love how surreal the cart looks on real tracks. It may already exist, but have you thought about something like this for commercial scenarios? While admittedly not very safe, small carts of any sort could be a lot of fun for younger children, even attached together as an alternative to train cars.
I'd be worried about digits being lopped right off by the wheels from them not understanding the dangers! or purposely trying to run stuff over with it. or worse
The wobble is a classic railroad problem. Go look at how regular rail wheelsets are built the solution to your problem is specifically in the tapper on the wheel. The geometry of the wheel helps prevent derailing and controls the speed wobble.
I don't know much about trains/railroads, but I do know rollercoasters. My guess is that the wobble problem stems from the articulating nature of the wheels (so it can go around corners). Am I off? Close enough?
@@hauntedshadowslegacy2826 it’s actually to do with the thermal expansion and contraction of the track, and the placement of the ties, and the coarseness of the gravel bed the ties are embedded in.
@@hauntedshadowslegacy2826 What's most likely happening here is hunting oscillation. Since in a curve, the turning radii of the inner and outer tracks are different, the distance the wheels travel is different. But since the wheels are on the same axle, this would be a problem. Therefore, engineers made the profile of the wheel not flat, but rather with a taper. This meant that the train shifting to the side would account for the difference in radius. This also had the added benefit of stabilising the train since the flanges help keep it centred. However, it seems like the brake drums don't have tapers, so the self-correcting effect is not present. The rails could also be slightly wobbly, and in the video they are quite wobbly. Also the minecart doesn't have suspension which means all the bumps are transmitted into the box... From my observations, it also seems like the flanges on the brake drums are tiny, which likely makes it easier for the train to derail. Therefore welding a ring onto the drum to increase the flange would help reduce the number of derailments. The minecart only has 2 axles, so it is functionally similar to a singular bogie. Normal trains tend to have two bogies supporting a long carriage. However, it is quite rare to have steerable bogies- vast majority of trains have the axles fixed to the bogie (albeit with some suspension)
Some day when I grow up, I want to be as cool as the owners of Little Amerricka. This project was 99% being allowed to use their rails, 1% only have to build the cart. @@jamess1787 The ppl at Little Amerricka were his last option in his local area though, explained from the last video. It would've been pretty hard for Joel to manage a small project like this outside of his range where he lives.
This is actually a pretty simple project. It's mostly structural stuff, the mechanics are as simple as a scooter motor and chain drive to one of the axles, and then a tilt hinge for the non-powered axle so that it won't derail if the track twists. As for wiring, it's just a battery, a motor, an off-the-shelf motor controller and an off-the-shelf servo-tester.

Not enough of a market to mass-produce them, but maybe build to order? It would be an affordable entry point into backyard railroading, problem is most people don't really have the space for an estate railway like that and there's very few existing 16" gauge lines that are open to people running their own equipment - first off, 16" gauge isn't even a recognized standard, the closest standardized gauge is 15" gauge, and second, most minimum gauge railways won't be willing to let some random person show up with a home-built contraption to run on their line due to safety, liability and the fact that it holds up normal operations.
seriously though you could sell these at to some other places like little america with miniature railways as a kiddie attraction, maybe even make a furnace cart with a little motor in it to drive a train of unpowered carts
I've been up to a speculated 15-20 mph, on my 7.5" gauge live steam locomotive (a crusty, wood fired Little Engines American for those intrested) it's a bit frightening with the track jostling, trying to stuff wood into the firebox and simultaneously driving and pumping water into the boiler. (Its a three handed operation!)
@@NowhereMan260 yeah, I didn't really even notice I was going that fast until my passenger told me once we stopped. Thanks, wood (Almond In particular) is far easier then coal, it burns just as hot (it seems) and responds quickly.
This is a very interesting build. I thought about something that maybe will help with the wobbling, but I'm no engineer so I might not be right at all. But I'm guessing maybe the balance in the cart can maybe be fixed with weights on the sides to help keep it down? I'm not sure that might work but it's an idea
Go check out the geometry of actual train wheelsets. His issue lies in the shape of his wheels and how they contact the rail. The wobble like that is a classic railroad problem that got solved with the special geometry of the wheels themselves in the early days if railroading.
It would be cool to see a chain line of these , where only the ones on the front amd back can control where they go and how fast, kinda like the train trever shows. that way it can be a cart ride with others and travel with cargo!

Genuinely one of the coolest videos I have ever watched to-date. You've fulfilled your own wish, and every player who has ever dreamed of this. Beautiful. I anticipate this being very popular very soon. Looking forward to the next time this pops up in my recommended!!!
WOOW! THIS IS INSANE!
I bet you get goosebumps every time Joel rides his minecart over you.
Thank you!
it could really use some cone shaped wheels like trains have, it helps allow some movement but also gives it the ability to self-centre on the tracks. great for bumps and turns
Opinion on black market thc cartridges

Camman18 gonna be happy after seeing this
I absolutely love this video, not just for the project itself but for seeing your enjoyment of it, how completely ecstatic you are about every part of the experience. I can just tell that this wasn't just a project for the views, this to you is a genuine passion and I just love that about it. Great work Joel and everyone else involved. Amazing
13:14 is the coolest shot in the entire video
Having played Minecraft since 2011 this video just hits right.
Camman18 would love this.
YO you have no idea how hyped I was when I saw this came out. I saw it on the side and INSTANTLY stopped watching my 2 hours of memes but it feels like 20 minutes and came right here.
I'm flattered you put me above the memes
@@JoelCreates i watched the origonal one and legit was so excited for the next one. ive wanted someone to make a minecraft minecart but this blew my expectations WAYYYY out of the water amazing job.
insane!
Obrigado!
This thing is so sick! I loved the Doug DeMuro reference btw too lol.
Young man, you got the diamond. Play monster, bro.
I love your baby videos. until i built
12:30 this is what is special about Minecraft too... friends
This is so cool!!
I swear this wasn't a fake speedrun...
Finally part 2!
Camman is crying tears of joy
Yoooo! This looks sick. Amazing work on the minecart! :)
Very very cool project. Simple, but elegant. Well designed, well executed.
The fact it has reverse instantly makes this thing +10 coolness level. I was expecting a cart you’d have to run up and down every time you wanted to use it. This thing is awesome. Also Trevor is great.
POV: when Camman18 said " did you know minecarts are slower than you think in Minecraft "
Recommend this to Camman18
I just stumbled across this video and was really surprised that he was at Little Amerricka. I used to go there all the time as a kid, and I rode the train often. Good nostalgia seeing it again on video.
5:05 that is the face of a man having the time of his life
wow dude, Thank you for bringing back some awesome memories, Wayyy back in like 2015 or so on XBOX 360 i made a minecart track throughout my world and every now and again would take it to see my progress. Thank you for that sense of nostalgia and good on you for making this a reality! It looks fricking sick and you guys did a wonderful job!
Love seeing you happy :)
10:24 what a cool camera angle
Ik right such a huge beautiful scenery 😍
📸🤨
@@No-ok8or yeah thats how it looked when they set it up
4:28 hey thats where it was!…
*it’s too late*
If they made this a real ride at a popular park or made a Minecraft park I'd go there the day it opens.
SOMEONE CALL CAMMAN18 THEY FINALLY MADE MINECARTS FASTER
13:31 Marshal wisconsin? wait... Im in wisconsin! huh very cool!! also its much cooler that you were able to make a minecart and ride it there!
And im literally 30 min drive from there!
@@ReniniPanini nice, I'm jus an hour away
It was my first job lmao.
@@bagel_doug5093 ooooohh!! Very nice! Also lucky
This was such a cool project and it turned out really good! It looks like so much fun just riding around the park in this thing and you present it so well! I like how you don't just show us some flashy footage of you riding around. You tell a story and your personal connection to everyone involved and that's really cool! Well done!
Glad you think so!
Second
Well put
Now replace the train wheels with rubber tires and add steering and you got a really nice street kart
That smile at 1:28 , that's the smile of someone's dream coming true
Amazing send off. Very inspiring.
As a Theme Park Enthusiast, I can't help but appreciate the inclusion of Little Ammericka in here... such a charming little park!
Dude, if you could mass produce these with regular wheels, you'd be making BANK
Yeah because everyone just has their local train ride place that will let them use their tracks whenever you want
@@AdumLundeen That's why I said with regular wheels so you can ride it around your neighborhood.
seriously though you could sell these at to some other places like little america with miniature railways as a kiddie attraction, maybe even make a furnace cart with a little motor in it to drive a train of unpowered carts
This Thing Is SO SICK! We Need More Videos Of You Cruising In The Minecart
Ballsy, I've never been that fast on one.
Good on ya for wood fired.
@@NowhereMan260 yeah, I didn't really even notice I was going that fast until my passenger told me once we stopped. Thanks, wood (Almond In particular) is far easier then coal, it burns just as hot (it seems) and responds quickly.
0:34 In all seriousness, how funny would it be if someone *actually* discovered Minecraft from this video. 😂
The wobble like that is a classic railroad problem that got solved with the special geometry of the wheels themselves in the early days if railroading.
he predicted the snapshot guys

1:02 The music. The nostalgia..
This man find a way to make a lecture about EVERYTHING. This time it was Minecraft!?!?
Imagine just driving and stopping because you saw the rail road gate closing just to see a man riding in a Minecraft Minecart go by xD
I GOT THE PERFECT IDEA FOR A SEQUEL-
make a minecart with a furnace with a gas engine inside to power this minecrart
Interesting
It would be cool to see a chain line of these , where only the ones on the front amd back can control where they go and how fast, kinda like the train trever shows.
that way it can be a cart ride with others and travel with cargo!
What a perfect location. It's like the track is running through a Minecraft village
