Love these types of inversions because they sound so natural with drop voicings. What's also great is that the intervals of that Locrian pattern had the notes of the chords you're basing it on Dom 7 etc. Prog rock and Fusion artists love those
I started with your simplest scales. You have taught me to look at finger patterns closer. To connect them and integrate throughout the whole of the fret board. TY Rick
@@Randinator hahaha yeah. You are right. I wasn't specifically thinking about what song was it when i heard. I just knew it was from Zelda. Then I read your comment and assumed it was right.

I've been practicing these shapes for a couple years using the left hand pattern of 1 note then 2 the next ect. Using sweep picking and applying them to the modes ,pentatonics, or anything else I can use it on such a great exercise that has really changed my playing it was a challenge at first but after a while really takes on a fluid feeling. I am a classical player originally and these feel and sound more like arpeggios you would achieve on that instrument Thank you Rick
Good to see your lovely fretboard, Rick and glad you’re doing well. Love me some m7b5 arpeggios over Lydian or Dominant chords. Thanks for another great vid. Now it’s time to practise.
Hi Rick, Thank you for the video. I got confused as you started off a II V i in Eminor with the m7b5 bring F# and the V would be B. when we got to the end where you run through the stuff slowly it ended up being what looked like something in a different key, the V looked like a C#, anyways, I got the idea and am practicing it. Would love the sequence you used in the beginning though. Thank you for the lesson
Does anyone have any tips for dealing with RF interference? I can't seem to get rid of the excessive noise when playing with passive pickups. A real bummer, since i prefer them over actives.
Rotate 360 degrees to find the quietest orientation. Do not sit near electrical equipment. Flourescent lights, dimmers and motors will cause interference. Sitting barefoot on an earthed sheet may help. Try stacked low output humbuckers like dimarzio HS3
Well lookie here! Rick posted a [great ] lesson, all of a sudden, I'm feeling extreemly well! I used that Minor 7 flat 5 scale in a recording once, very catchy , will learn other forms too, Are you playing the Charvel now, a lot, or still an Ibanez man? Nice hearing from ya' Rick! Thanks.
I can memorise these arpeggio shapes but I don't feel like I've gained any "knowledge". Most of the time I don't know which notes I'm playing, I'm just following the muscle memory.
Just know what chords you can play it over bro👍🏻Good to use over minor 2 5 chords or chord progression eg: Bm7b5-E7#9#5...I personally love it over the Dominant chord eg: G7=Bm7b5 arpeggio(s) and Am=Fm7b5 for Am6 sound (But i dont use that much) hope that helps man.. Try jamming over “sunny” in Am..Then when it comes to the Bm7b5 to E7alt, wack it in there
Hey this is a dumb question but why is it called minor7b5 and not like diminished add7? Cause isn't a minor 3rd and a flat 5 just a dim cord on its own? Or is this just dumb and it doesn't totally matter what is called?
Hhh hmmm... 4? There's 5-7 5 caged 7 3nps systems... Not to infringe on the masters teaching. All respect to Rick. There's alot of different types of arppeggio systems. 4 makes sense for 7th arppegios since there are 4 notes...
That's what Locrian is; a half dim mode. Always think of modes in terms of the chords that go with them. Like the Lydian sounds more at home with maj7 #11 chords or #11.
Thiago Souza Thanks bro. I’m a little slow with this stuff, and I’ve been putting the pieces together very slowly over the years, on and off ha ha! A late bloomer, in nearly every category in life.
As soon as you classify minor, you're in the minor (Aeolian mode) scale (he picked F# as the root). The relative Major to F# minor is "A" Major. It's common core math to say the "Flat 3rd" or "Flat 7th" of Major while classifying it as a "minor" arpeggio without confusing things. It's real simple, in the F# minor scale, A is the natural 3rd, C is the b5, and E is the natural 7th.
That min7b5 -> dominant move is fucking badass.
Have the same Guitar. I put. Staggered Sprezel tuners on it. Got rid of String trees. Not wild about Neck pickup. You are truly a master.
Badass as always. Gorgeous guitar, too.
And....."pssst...your G-string is showing".

First arpeggio reminds me of the Great Fairy Fountain theme from Zelda.
My first thought
Cassio Estéfano now that I think about it, it’s more of the opening title screen to A Link to the Past specifically.

Raw and straight to the point. Love it.
I love using m7b5 arpeggios! I like to start it on the b3 of a dorian progression. I learned the locrian pentatonic from you, Rick!
