This is a great practice for new tires. If you can't get all the way to the edge don't sweat it. I cant get to the very edge of the tire on my cbr with Michelin road 6's. I've leaned dam near flat and still have an inch of "un used" tire. Like he mentioned, you will never have to lean that far on a public road unless you have a death wish. Perfectly acceptable to have "chicken strips"
Due to the various profiles, I also recommend you always keep the same brand on the front and rear. Additionally, I always replace both at the same time vs one over another, unless I get a nail in the tire or something like that.
@@supakamario Maybe for some people it works out that way...most people I've seen go through more rear faster because they're pressure isn't correct and/or do a lot of straight line riding. It's not a waste of money to do both at the same time, I always do both...even if I spend a little extra money doing both, it's worth it to me, just like taking courses multiple times. It's not a waste of money to take SoCal Supermoto for the 4th time, like I did. We all spend our money on something...people spend $700 on an exhaust and are wearing a half helmet and jeans...that's a real waste of money to me.
@@supakamario There's too many variables to determine one thing that makes tires last or not, regardless of what tires may be rated at...I know two people who got 15k miles out of both tires and the other rider only 5k miles and they were riding the same tires, on the same bike.
Haven't ridden in 11 years and pick up my new bike in a few days, these videos have been brilliant to get my head back in the game and approach it safely. Very helpful on getting out there with confidence knowing many thing's have changed since my last riding experiences i.e. technology, my age and my attitude. The new bike has a six axis IMU which is amazing from where I left off. Thank's for the education, I have learnt so much and will continue to do so :)

Eddie, I am so glad I have been watching your videos for the last six months and actually practicing a lot of the techniques you teach. Today it really paid off me today because I did something I had been looking forward to doing for a long time riding with the local BMW motorcycle club through the mountains in the Philippines. They all had BMW 1200GS and I was the only one on a S1000RR. They all knew I was a virgin driving through the mountains here and thought they would take it easy on me at first until they realized I knew what I was doing setting up my apexes and downshifting instead of breaking. As far as body position I let my head guide me as you said to practice and kept me knees on the tank instead of the “Isle of Man TT” body position so many use to wear themselves out. It was a lot of fun and practice really helps to give you the confidence to do better riding skills. Thanks Eddie I wish they had courses here like yours.

Btw, I really like the modulating headlights, really effective. After seeing yours, I decided to buy a unit as well...incredibly effective! Was yours after market or did it come with the bike? Maybe you can do a video on bike safety mods for the public?
The headlights are not modulating, it's just the frequency of my headlight and my iPhone trying to record it. Only thing I recommend are maybe aftermarket lights added to your bike...but the safety part is you, your skill. Take more courses and practice more, that's the best way to be safer.
Thats also my way to break in new tires. Just a half day on the parking lot and you are good to go. One of my co-workers told me - he take some sandpaper to rub of that slippery tire-slime or what ever it is called. But I think thats not the porpose to do that. I mean - go and ride that slippery thing of - literally. Well. Great video. :) Lovely greetings from austria.

Thanks for posting...wish I had seen this before I went out on new shop-installed nitrogen-filled Anakee Adventures on my R1250GS. Took a roundabout, not really aggressively, and the bike came out from under me. Slid about 20 feet, but thankfully I was dressed for the slide. Will try this method to break in the tires.
Thanks. Picking up my new bike next week. I wondered about breaking in the tyres. I will go to the fair ground and carry out the slow speed maneuvers in your video. It’s a Honda 500cc. Sold my Honda 125cc now I have my A2 license. Had a lot of fun on that bike. Even did a 2400km tour through Spain. So now the next step up. I appreciate your advice.
Rub your new tyres down with gun wash thinners and a rag till you feel the rubber. It melts all that crap off and makes them sticky straight off. It doesn't damage the tyre. Love your work btw

Sir; The coating that's on the tires is actually a soap that dries a blue tint. Designed to help with the tire mounting.Another help is twofold. 1 and foremost, right tire pressure... 2nd, wash them with a power sprayer and a stiff brush, and clean off the excess soap. Then do what you do and lean it as far as you safely can counter balancing with your weight... Great valuable information here as in all your well thought out videos that you post!

this is gonna be pretty exciting, i just started riding, a CBR600RR and the rear tire that came on it a michelin pilot power 2ct was pretty much done, the center was flat and so I'm used to riding with that, however right now as in typing this, I'm getting a brand new 2ct 180/55/17 put on and it's got way more of a V shape to it! lol. I'm going to take it real easy and break it in and get used to the new handling, if any 😊
I recently put on a set of Michelin Road 5's and I did exactly what you did in an empty lot, but even though the tread looked slippery, it wasn't. Years ago, tire makers used wax as a release agent in the tire mold, but none of them do that now, so even though there isn't a need to break in new tires, I still do it, just to feel confident with them. And it's fun to lean way over in a safe place of course.
@dogs n moto: one thing u slow speed intentionally doing Os in a empty lot,and prepared for possible slide,and u didnt..lucky..but..another when u have to crack that throttle on cold tires just turning out from your driveway 2save ur self from a mach2 driver texting .. i can say on my K6 1000 w Pirelli Diablo rossos..i take Pirelli anyday over Michelin but ever1 has preferences...you must not get cocky for the 1st 300kms Minimum city traffic riding.MUST BE BROKEN IN,HEAT CYCLED..and cold tires can suprise u even after sort of scuffed up.. Be mindful can keep u on your bike and not under it..Break in + tires to warm up Time @every start of a ride..stay safe..
Unfortunately here in the Philippines there aren't big parking lots like in the US. I miss that. It makes it harder to find places to do practice drills like this.
Actually bought some new tires and i didn't think that there would be so much " slickness " around the tires when they were new. Gonna put them on monday and going to a parking lot to scrub them off. Btw, i never thought that that would actually help me improving my balance, which does because i went out to a parking lot today training. Nice video as always, keep up! Cheers
I use 100-120 grit sandpaper and lightly (I’m talking very lightly) scuff away that shine on the contact area of my tires. You can easily see any spots missed and make sure you’ve done a thorough job. Also I swear by Pirelli sport touring tires. What tires do you prefer and why?
I don’t do that, I rather have the weight of the bike and me smashing the tire into the ground and scrub them in, plus it’s another excuse to practice. I have a whole video on the tires I have on my BMW & why...too much to type :)

I have a 2017 z900 and I just got new tires (Pirelli Rosso III'S) and I am noticing my rear has less tire to wear down more than the front. I don't think I can get my entire front without ending up in the side wall in the rear. But if what you say as the pegs are ultimate determinor of max lean, then I guess I have a bit more to go.

I've always heard that going to a parking lot and circling/weaving wasn't good enough. I've read and been told manufacturers recommend you need to do it on the road and use speeds above 25 mph because the tires need higher temps to be properly broken in.
Had them on my DL-1000. What an incredible difference! Instant jump in confidence. Tip in became totally predictable. I'll probably put them on my new bike when the time comes.
I wish I had searched these videos a few days ago. I got new tires 3 days ago and have since done about 120km on the new rubber. Problem is these 120km have been commuting to work on the freeway which wore in the center of the tire but did little for the outside of the tire. Yesterday I went around a round a bout only doing about 50km/h and as soon as I accelerated slightly I was sliding down the asphalt to the sound of my bike being torn up by the road 😬😭. Clearly I had too much lean and too much acceleration on an unworn part of the tire and just expected more grip than it could offer at that point. Later I searched for tricks on wearing in new tires and sore a video of a guy using 120grit sand paper so I did that and it worked. Had I seen this video before hand though, I probably would have just found an empty carpark and done this instead.....the sanding of the front tire was hard work lol

The Film over the tires is a release agent to help the tire come loose from the mold when manufactured They're not as slippery as they used to be it also depends on the manufacturer.
Over the years the best starting place we always go with new tires is a gravel road. And the more sand on the surface the better. I don't mean 2 inches, but a reasonable amount. Maybe an inch. No we're not going to go at it at terrific lean angles, but just enough to start the 'cleaning '. This takes the 'polished edge' off the tire in less than 2 or 3 miles.
Yep , this can be the sort of thing you learn the hard way ! I was at a m/c dealers one day and a guy had just purchased a SUZUKI GSX1400. It obviously had brand new tyres on a brand new bike and the dealers hadn't told him to 'take it real easy' when taking it away. Long story short he didn't and within 100yrds had lost control of it on a damp road and wrapped the bike and himself round a lampost 😲😲😟😞 it was a sad end to the day because he paralysed himself and totalled the bike 😞😞

I knew better but I biffed it toady....new tires, and got to cocky on a turn and laid it down. Had my gear on but humbly realized I’m going back to the parking lot. Wish I would have seen this video before going out. Thanks for the tips
I've heard it's not the release agents that's not really a thing anymore. It's not even the roughing up so much. It's the tyre going through its initial heat cycling that releases all the agents within the rubber itself. That's why they advise 100miles of careful riding.
What about how to break in a new engine? Just got a KLR650 2018 0km and I REALLY wanna make sure I break it in as best I can as they're known to burn oil.
@@MotoJitsu I’ve read it very thoroughly and it literally only says to ride below 4000 rpms for the first 800kms lol. That’s it. It doesn’t say anything about not lugging the engine, proper warm up or anything more specific during the break-in period. What’s been your experience with new bikes? (Your personal touch on top of what the manual says if any?)
That slick stuff on new tires is from the mold and can be leftover mold release. It is very important to do what you are doing to scuff up the slick layer, don't ever get out on new tires and think you can break them in at high speed. Your way is the best way to break them in because you get the added benefit of mastering the low speed turns.
Thanks for making this video man! I’m about to get two new tires on my ZX6R and I was worried about slipping. One question though, when doing this routine, should I be leaning off the bike like I do regularly in corners or should I be positioned more like you were in the video?
I commute to work every day that’s I scrub mine in. It’s a slow process about a week and then I go for a nice easy ride in the twistie stuff. Oh and the slippery stuff mould release it makes getting a tyre out of the mould easier I use simaler stuff in my line of work with plastic. That’s for those that weed to know

Great vid as usual. To those who proclaim 'no need to scrub in new tyres', well, why the f*** wouldn't you? It's your neck and your bike at risk. So take an hour to do it properly, then you'll KNOW it's done. Have a little humility, concentrate on your own safety (and others) on the road and do things properly. You owe it to yourself and your family.
Pavan MS I do it as follow. First 200 km I am driving and turning more slowely and trying keep the tires longer on same positition. I do not try to change sides fast. Just really easy and smooth riding. After 200 km I can do whatever I want. It was recommended from my BMW sevice where they care of my bike as well.
Lol I used to love doing Uturn, leaning the bike very nicely, was getting very good at until, was very comfortable for me to do so...until one day 😆 where my front wheel washed out and i went down...lol. I must have hit some oil or something that I didn't see.
Do you guys for another set of tires have also other rims, does that make it easier having another set also with rims? I have on mine black wheel rims, so thinking to buy another in gold color? What's your opinion?
As a new rider my brain isn't ready yet to lean that much, kinda jealous how you handle that machine! Maybe a stupid question, but should going over with a piece of sandpaper, say 100grit, have the same results to get the 'slickness' off?
No it won't. Tire rubber is incredibly tough and sand paper or sanding machine doesn't produce nearly as much force as riding the tire on asphalt. Also, heat is very important to break in the tire, which sanding won't heat up the tire like riding will.
Thank you for the video. I am looking at Michelin Anakee Adventure tires for R1250GSA. How do they compare to the Anakee 3 that you have. It worth mentioning that I am in Canada... I will use them in rain for sure.

I used to ride behind a motorcycle racer and notice that he did the slow speed from side to side how's the traffic lane every time he started the bike up told me it was too warm up the tires. Your thoughts? I also have a question as to how many miles you get on those anakee 3 tires. I'm running to the anakee wild tires now on my KLR650 but I'm not doing rugged terrain off-road riding and want a tire that's a very high quality and appropriate for the highway as well as infrequent gravel roads I ride. Hi Eddie, first time on my bike in 4 months, did slow riding and oh my god I was leaning the bike like a mad man with me on the other side counter balancing it ………….. Any way NO chicken strips left on front or rear... wow. I look like a real pro.. lol. Any way just to say a big thank you !!!! yeah.
I was at my friends dealership once and a customer just had gotten new tires. He pulled out on to the road and we watched him go down right in front of us. He had leaned over too far on those new tires. You should be careful on cold roads also. Ask me how I know. My tires weren't warmed up enough and down I went. I took off out of a parking lot and the rear tire let loose and then took hold and sent me high side. I vowed not to ride in 30 degrees again.

I'm thinking of buying a motorcycle. I've ridden a 220cc bike for like 2 years and then I had to sell it to move to where I live now. Since 2015, I haven't been on any bike. But I love riding bikes and motorcycles and I'm thinking of getting back on one. I'm still a huge noob, and I love your videos and how well you explain stuff in your videos. I'm thinking of buying an R6, do you think its a bike I could learn basic stuff on, such a cornering?
I would first say take a course to get back into things...and no, I don't recommend getting a R6...I recommend people to get a 400cc or less bike for a year to really learn how to ride along with taking at least 3 additional courses above and beyond the basic course. R3, Ninja 400, KTM 390, Honda 300, etc.
You can learn on a R6, but it's going to be way more challenging on that bike...plus cornering isn't basic as you stated...cornering causes the most amount of crashes and takes the most amount of skill.
Hey Greg I've been wearing in my new tyres to get rid of the new film .. my rear is pretty much worn to the edge but my front tyre still has a huge amount each side... is that due to not enough low speed manoeuvres or incorrect suspensions settings??
What is your opinion about only replacing rear tires if the front ones don't wear as fast? I have a BMW HP2 sport which I use on the track with a lot of right hand turns so the right side wears down quite fast. The rear wears more than the front. Or would you always replace in pairs regardless? I do try to offset the the right side wear by riding on the street and going through left hand round a bouts.
No word of a lie....that's the first time anyone has explained that to me. I always thought you had to go moderately fast in corners to remove chicken strips. Enlightening.
The "film" is there just because the mold in which they make the tires is very smooth. The rubber reflects that. There are no additional coatings. (there is a kind of grease on the inside)

It’s SuperMoto style, ever watch SuperMoto racing? I’ve also been to SoCal SuperMoto 4 times where they explain and why behind it, it’s basically to get my foot out of the way because if I left it on the peg, my boot would be scrapping the ground.

I did though have a query as did Mr710324 about you dragging your boot, I notice you doing it here while scrubbing in tyres yet in your MotoJitsu Belt demos you do not drag your feet. I was just wondering why you did it here if it’s not normal practice. I mean you get very leaned over during the belts and you seem to be able to get your foot out of the way of the ground (up on the balls of your feet). Will proceed to do this with my next pair of tires. Double usefulness : - Breaks the tires in - You can learn how they behave I could use this, because my main problem while riding is not trusting the tires on the road. Can't have any real confidence, even having put down 29000kms on this SV in less than two years, and 25000kms on the CBF 125 i had before. I'm always afraid they'd slip in a roundabout, ect. Never happend though, but still don't feel confident.

Eddy in some video I remember hearing you mention that if you get a nail in a tire (this is wht I undestood) you will take it to the dealler and get it replaced? I thougt It can be repair and conyinue using it, can you get deeper on it! Thanks!
Why? Because there's a hole in it due to the nail. Tire is now worthless. If you patch it, it was just a temporary thing to make it to the shop to get a new one. Patching a tire isn't a long term fix...I was lucky my buddy had a tire patch set in his bike, otherwise the tire was 100% flat and I would of had to call a tow truck to tow it to the shop. If you get a nail in the tire, replace it; it's part of the game we play to ride motorcycles.

After a nail hole in a tire is a safety hazard? I do not pretend to bother you I want to understand the technical impact of the situation! Once more thak you!
I don't care or know what tire manufactures say or not, if you get a nail, it's very likely the tire will go flat...so you won't be able ride anymore. Therefore you need a new tire.

Great tutorial! Broke in my new Bridgestone S22’s today using this method. Good training and a sweet way to set the new tires. Highly recommended ✌️

Front tires as a rule of thumb last twice as long as rear. Waste of $ to do both at same time..... 2 backs to 1 front

It's the injection molding when they come out of a mold the tyres are slick and smooth from this process. Very new and shiny. Keep up the good vids.

Haven't ridden in 11 years and pick up my new bike in a few days, these videos have been brilliant to get my head back in the game and approach it safely. Very helpful on getting out there with confidence knowing many thing's have changed since my last riding experiences i.e. technology, my age and my attitude. The new bike has a six axis IMU which is amazing from where I left off. Thank's for the education, I have learnt so much and will continue to do so :)

Eddie, I am so glad I have been watching your videos for the last six months and actually practicing a lot of the techniques you teach. Today it really paid off me today because I did something I had been looking forward to doing for a long time riding with the local BMW motorcycle club through the mountains in the Philippines. They all had BMW 1200GS and I was the only one on a S1000RR. They all knew I was a virgin driving through the mountains here and thought they would take it easy on me at first until they realized I knew what I was doing setting up my apexes and downshifting instead of breaking. As far as body position I let my head guide me as you said to practice and kept me knees on the tank instead of the “Isle of Man TT” body position so many use to wear themselves out. It was a lot of fun and practice really helps to give you the confidence to do better riding skills. Thanks Eddie I wish they had courses here like yours.

I just do the tire warm up sequence up and down my street a few times and it's perfect. And always a nice burn out right when they are installed.
You're all about safety and leaving your ego out of riding! UA-cam would have a lot less videos, lol....but the roads would be safer. Thank you! Btw, I really like the modulating headlights, really effective. After seeing yours, I decided to buy a unit as well...incredibly effective!

The headlights are not modulating, it's just the frequency of my headlight and my iPhone trying to record it. Only thing I recommend are maybe aftermarket lights added to your bike...but the safety part is you, your skill. Take more courses and practice more, that's the best way to be safer.
Thats also my way to break in new tires. Just a half day on the parking lot and you are good to go.
One of my co-workers told me - he take some sandpaper to rub of that slippery tire-slime or what ever it is called. But I think thats not the porpose to do that. I mean - go and ride that slippery thing of - literally.

Thanks for posting...wish I had seen this before I went out on new shop-installed nitrogen-filled Anakee Adventures on my R1250GS. Took a roundabout, not really aggressively, and the bike came out from under me. Slid about 20 feet, but thankfully I was dressed for the slide. Will try this method to break in the tires.
Thanks. Picking up my new bike next week. I wondered about breaking in the tyres. I will go to the fair ground and carry out the slow speed maneuvers in your video. It’s a Honda 500cc. Sold my Honda 125cc now I have my A2 license. Had a lot of fun on that bike. Even did a 2400km tour through Spain. So now the next step up. I appreciate your advice.

Rub your new tyres down with gun wash thinners and a rag till you feel the rubber. It melts all that crap off and makes them sticky straight off. It doesn't damage the tyre.

Sir; The coating that's on the tires is actually a soap that dries a blue tint. Designed to help with the tire mounting.Another help is twofold. 1 and foremost, right tire pressure... 2nd, wash them with a power sprayer and a stiff brush, and clean off the excess soap. Then do what you do and lean it as far as you safely can counter balancing with your weight... Great valuable information here as in all your well thought out videos that you post!

this is gonna be pretty exciting, i just started riding, a CBR600RR and the rear tire that came on it a michelin pilot power 2ct was pretty much done, the center was flat and so I'm used to riding with that, however right now as in typing this, I'm getting a brand new 2ct 180/55/17 put on and it's got way more of a V shape to it! lol. I'm going to take it real easy and break it in and get used to the new handling, if any 😊

I recently put on a set of Michelin Road 5's and I did exactly what you did in an empty lot, but even though the tread looked slippery, it wasn't. Years ago, tire makers used wax as a release agent in the tire mold, but none of them do that now, so even though there isn't a need to break in new tires, I still do it, just to feel confident with them. And it's fun to lean way over in a safe place of course.
Still - you should take is easy for the first miles with new tires. New ones are not "roughed up" and provide less mechanical grip.

@dogs n moto: one thing u slow speed intentionally doing Os in a empty lot,and prepared for possible slide,and u didnt..lucky..but..another when u have to crack that throttle on cold tires just turning out from your driveway 2save ur self from a mach2 driver texting .. i can say on my K6 1000 w Pirelli Diablo rossos..i take Pirelli anyday over Michelin but ever1 has preferences...you must not get cocky for the 1st 300kms Minimum city traffic riding.MUST BE BROKEN IN,HEAT CYCLED..and cold tires can suprise u even after sort of scuffed up..
Be mindful can keep u on your bike and not under it..Break in + tires to warm up Time @every start of a ride..stay safe..
Unfortunately here in the Philippines there aren't big parking lots like in the US. I miss that. It makes it harder to find places to do practice drills like this.
Actually bought some new tires and i didn't think that there would be so much " slickness " around the tires when they were new.
Gonna put them on monday and going to a parking lot to scrub them off.
Btw, i never thought that that would actually help me improving my balance, which does because i went out to a parking lot today training.

I use 100-120 grit sandpaper and lightly (I’m talking very lightly) scuff away that shine on the contact area of my tires. You can easily see any spots missed and make sure you’ve done a thorough job.
Also I swear by Pirelli sport touring tires. What tires do you prefer and why?
I don’t do that, I rather have the weight of the bike and me smashing the tire into the ground and scrub them in, plus it’s another excuse to practice. I have a whole video on the tires I have on my BMW & why...too much to type :)

I have a 2017 z900 and I just got new tires (Pirelli Rosso III'S) and I am noticing my rear has less tire to wear down more than the front. I don't think I can get my entire front without ending up in the side wall in the rear. But if what you say as the pegs are ultimate determinor of max lean, then I guess I have a bit more to go.
if you're hitting pegs, either you need to use more body position or you're just doing low speed stuff and then it's ok.

I've always heard that going to a parking lot and circling/weaving wasn't good enough. I've read and been told manufacturers recommend you need to do it on the road and use speeds above 25 mph because the tires need higher temps to be properly broken in.
you do this...then obviously go and ride and slow increase speed, which will make the bike lean

I wish I had searched these videos a few days ago. I got new tires 3 days ago and have since done about 120km on the new rubber. Problem is these 120km have been commuting to work on the freeway which wore in the center of the tire but did little for the outside of the tire. Yesterday I went around a round a bout only doing about 50km/h and as soon as I accelerated slightly I was sliding down the asphalt to the sound of my bike being torn up by the road 😬😭. Clearly I had too much lean and too much acceleration on an unworn part of the tire and just expected more grip than it could offer at that point. Later I searched for tricks on wearing in new tires and sore a video of a guy using 120grit sand paper so I did that and it worked. Had I seen this video before hand though, I probably would have just found an empty carpark and done this instead.....the sanding of the front tire was hard work lol
:) yea just do some lower speed figure 8's for about 10 mins and you're good to start riding at a gradual pace.

The Film over the tires is a release agent to help the tire come loose from the mold when manufactured
They're not as slippery as they used to be it also depends on the manufacturer.
Over the years the best starting place we always go with new tires is a gravel road. And the more sand on the surface the better. I don't mean 2 inches, but a reasonable amount. Maybe an inch. No we're not going to go at it at terrific lean angles, but just enough to start the 'cleaning '. This takes the 'polished edge' off the tire in less than 2 or 3 miles.

I was at a m/c dealers one day and a guy had just purchased a SUZUKI GSX1400. It obviously had brand new tyres on a brand new bike and the dealers hadn't told him to 'take it real easy' when taking it away. Long story short he didn't and within 100yrds had lost control of it on a damp road and wrapped the bike and himself round a lampost 😲😲😟😞 it was a sad end to the day because he paralysed himself and totalled the bike 😞😞
I have a personel issue. I get dissy when Im going round and round, so I can only do it for a few minuts 🥺👀

I've heard it's not the release agents that's not really a thing anymore. It's not even the roughing up so much.
It's the tyre going through its initial heat cycling that releases all the agents within the rubber itself. That's why they advise 100miles of careful riding.
100 miles? You can get them scrubbed in 5 minutes ;)
Damn, my 2014 CBX (owned 3 months) has original Pirelli Scorpions and I can still still the 1" shiny edges on both sides of the tires.
What about how to break in a new engine? Just got a KLR650 2018 0km and I REALLY wanna make sure I break it in as best I can as they're known to burn oil.

It doesn’t say anything about not lugging the engine, proper warm up or anything more specific during the break-in period. What’s been your experience with new bikes? (Your personal touch on top of what the manual says if any?)
I do what the owners manual says and what the mechanics say at the dealership.

That slick stuff on new tires is from the mold and can be leftover mold release. It is very important to do what you are doing to scuff up the slick layer, don't ever get out on new tires and think you can break them in at high speed. Your way is the best way to break them in because you get the added benefit of mastering the low speed turns.

Thanks for making this video man! I’m about to get two new tires on my ZX6R and I was worried about slipping. One question though, when doing this routine, should I be leaning off the bike like I do regularly in corners or should I be positioned more like you were in the video?
This is low speed, so you'll be staying upright and letting the bike lean really far over.

I commute to work every day that’s I scrub mine in. It’s a slow process about a week and then I go for a nice easy ride in the twistie stuff. Oh and the slippery stuff mould release it makes getting a tyre out of the mould easier I use simaler stuff in my line of work with plastic. That’s for those that weed to know

Great vid as usual. To those who proclaim 'no need to scrub in new tyres', well, why the f*** wouldn't you? It's your neck and your bike at risk. So take an hour to do it properly, then you'll KNOW it's done. Have a little humility, concentrate on your own safety (and others) on the road and do things properly. Pavan MS I do it as follow. First 200 km I am driving and turning more slowely and trying keep the tires longer on same positition. I do not try to change sides fast. Just really easy and smooth riding. After 200 km I can do whatever I want. It was recommended from my BMW sevice where they care of my bike as well.
Lol I used to love doing Uturn, leaning the bike very nicely, was getting very good at until, was very comfortable for me to do so...until one day 😆 where my front wheel washed out and i went down...lol. I must have hit some oil or something that I didn't see.

As a new rider my brain isn't ready yet to lean that much, kinda jealous how you handle that machine! Maybe a stupid question, but should going over with a piece of sandpaper, say 100grit, have the same results to get the 'slickness' off?
No it won't. Tire rubber is incredibly tough and sand paper or sanding machine doesn't produce nearly as much force as riding the tire on asphalt. Also, heat is very important to break in the tire, which sanding won't heat up the tire like riding will.

How do they compare to the Anakee 3 that you have. It worth mentioning that I am in Canada... I will use them in rain for sure.

Yes, just get another Q3+ and keep your pressure up the way they're supposed to be...36 cold front and 42 cold rear is what I ride at all the time.

I used to ride behind a motorcycle racer and notice that he did the slow speed from side to side how's the traffic lane every time he started the bike up told me it was too warm up the tires. Your thoughts? I also have a question as to how many miles you get on those anakee 3 tires. I'm running to the anakee wild tires now on my KLR650 but I'm not doing rugged terrain off-road riding and want a tire that's a very high quality and appropriate for the highway as well as infrequent gravel roads I ride. I was at my friends dealership once and a customer just had gotten new tires. He pulled out on to the road and we watched him go down right in front of us. He had leaned over too far on those new tires. You should be careful on cold roads also. Ask me how I know. My tires weren't warmed up enough and down I went. I took off out of a parking lot and the rear tire let loose and then took hold and sent me high side. I vowed not to ride in 30 degrees again.
Many variables to it all...and it's mostly due to rider error. Too hard on the gas, too much lean, too much brakes.

I'm thinking of buying a motorcycle. I've ridden a 220cc bike for like 2 years and then I had to sell it to move to where I live now. Since 2015, I haven't been on any bike. But I love riding bikes and motorcycles and I'm thinking of getting back on one. I'm still a huge noob, and I love your videos and how well you explain stuff in your videos. I'm thinking of buying an R6, do you think its a bike I could learn basic stuff on, such a cornering?
I would first say take a course to get back into things...and no, I don't recommend getting a R6...I recommend people to get a 400cc or less bike for a year to really learn how to ride along with taking at least 3 additional courses above and beyond the basic course. R3, Ninja 400, KTM 390, Honda 300, etc.
You can learn on a R6, but it's going to be way more challenging on that bike...plus cornering isn't basic as you stated...cornering causes the most amount of crashes and takes the most amount of skill.

same way, just a bit slower....but I wouldn't break in new tires in the rain.

Do a bunch of u-turns...leaning the bike very far...can do that less than 10mph scuffing up the tires pretty good. Then just go ride, take it easy.

Hey Greg I've been wearing in my new tyres to get rid of the new film .. my rear is pretty much worn to the edge but my front tyre still has a huge amount each side... is that due to not enough low speed manoeuvres or incorrect suspensions settings??

What is your opinion about only replacing rear tires if the front ones don't wear as fast? I have a BMW HP2 sport which I use on the track with a lot of right hand turns so the right side wears down quite fast. The rear wears more than the front. Or would you always replace in pairs regardless? I do try to offset the the right side wear by riding on the street and going through left hand round a bouts.
I usually get both but if I only replace the rear, I make sure it's the same tire as the front due to multiple types of profiles and compounds.
No word of a lie....that's the first time anyone has explained that to me.
I always thought you had to go moderately fast in corners to remove chicken strips.

The "film" is there just because the mold in which they make the tires is very smooth. The rubber reflects that. There are no additional coatings. (there is a kind of grease on the inside)

I always thought that was a no no .. think i saw a video somewhere where the guy was doing that at higher speeds and his boot caught on something and bounced-backwards and he ran his foot over and wiped out
It’s SuperMoto style, ever watch SuperMoto racing? I’ve also been to SoCal SuperMoto 4 times where they explain and why behind it, it’s basically to get my foot out of the way because if I left it on the peg, my boot would be scrapping the ground.

I did though have a query as did Mr710324 about you dragging your boot, I notice you doing it here while scrubbing in tyres yet in your MotoJitsu Belt demos you do not drag your feet. I was just wondering why you did it here if it’s not normal practice. I mean you get very leaned over during the belts and you seem to be able to get your foot out of the way of the ground (up on the balls of your feet). I thought maybe you had recently done Supermoto training and the technique was at the foremost of your mind. Anyway just an observation. Keep up the great work. Cheers Marty from Melbourne 🇦🇺

I could use this, because my main problem while riding is not trusting the tires on the road. Can't have any real confidence, even having put down 29000kms on this SV in less than two years, and 25000kms on the CBF 125 i had before. I'm always afraid they'd slip in a roundabout, ect. Never happend though, but still don't feel confident.
Give it a try, and I don’t trust my tires, ever. I trust my knowledge & skills & education. I trust myself.
@@MotoJitsu Fair enough. I am confident in my skills and knowledge, you're right, that should be enough. After the original comment i tried to "let go" a bit on my daily commute, and just trust my riding skills. Felt better, and more enjoyable.

Eddy in some video I remember hearing you mention that if you get a nail in a tire (this is wht I undestood) you will take it to the dealler and get it replaced? I thougt It can be repair and conyinue using it, can you get deeper on it! Thanks!
Yes, if it's ridable. I just had this happen so I patched it up then rode it to the dealership and got a new one.
MotoJitsu why will you have the tire replaced?
Why? Because there's a hole in it due to the nail. Tire is now worthless. If you patch it, it was just a temporary thing to make it to the shop to get a new one. Patching a tire isn't a long term fix...I was lucky my buddy had a tire patch set in his bike, otherwise the tire was 100% flat and I would of had to call a tow truck to tow it to the shop. If you get a nail in the tire, replace it; it's part of the game we play to ride motorcycles.
@@MotoJitsu my applogies bur I want to understand your comment, should I understand that tire manufacturers do say their tire is worthlss if they get a nail? After a nail hole in a tire is a safety hazard?

I don't care or know what tire manufactures say or not, if you get a nail, it's very likely the tire will go flat...so you won't be able ride anymore. Therefore you need a new tire.
