My earliest childhood friend, Johnny D., was working for Prince when he recorded this, and the other songs for 'Purple Rain'. 35 years later, he showed up at my brother's deathbed the day before he died. My older brother attended, and performed at, Jimi Hendrix's funeral.

I was reading from The Bible and singing to my brother. Back in '70-'71, my brother was a guitarist for The Buddy Miles Band. They did live shows with, among others, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison; and Buddy also worked with, among others, Otis Redding. One of the last things I ever said to my brother alive was the opening line to The Righteous Brothers' "Rock N Roll Heaven". At that point, he grabbed me and pulled me to him and said-'Tommy, I love you". He wrote the song-"I Still Love You, Anyway"-for Buddy's "Them Changes" album.
Seriously, this song is a true masterpiece. I don't know of any other song just like it. Prince had a way of creating music that was both familiar and never heard before. What a perfect way to express yearning for someone you're about to lose.

Prince was an inimitable genius. He could literally paint pictures with his music. They all have a unique identity, an environment to them, possessed by human emotion and states of mind and conditions of the heart. Its timeless and hes still one of very few to be able to do it.

Prince was my mom's favorite. I must have watched Purple Rain 200 when I was around 5ish. I walked around singing Darling Nikki and my mamaw was over one night and I was in the middle of Darling Nikki and her face turned white and my mom looks at her mom and says "just let her have her sing mom"🤣 The reason for the long explanation is Prince was played everyday in my house and as I said also Purple Rain. Now! I watched Purple Rain last night for the first time as an adult to😟. He's supposed to be the HERO? Let me say that again...he was the HERO. Prince was my mom's favorite. I must have watched Purple Rain 200 when I was around 5ish. I walked around singing Darling Nikki and my mamaw was over one night and I was in the middle of Darling Nikki and her face turned white and my mom looks at her mom and says "just let her have her sing mom"🤣 The reason for the long explanation is Prince was played everyday in my house and as I said also Purple Rain. Now! I watched Purple Rain last night for the first time as an adult to😟. He's supposed to be the HERO? Let me say that again...he was the HERO. He's toxic AF mean and hurtful to his band mates and he bitch slaps Apollonia twice! Yeah we'd be calling for his head on a spike now. He'd be cancelled for sure. Not to mention that he was a even bigger asshole IRL. I can still appreciate his genius and talent. I enjoy his music bc it's nostalgic for me. But I wouldn't support him in any way. I was kinda dumbfounded when I see the comments. We need to stop romanticizing men like him
