The GRP Synthesizer A1 is the entry-level model of GRP’s semimodular synthesizer series. It features a VCO with Triangle, Saw, and Pulse waveforms, along with a sub-oscillator. It also includes two LFOs that can operate at varying speeds, ranging from really fast to really slow or anywhere in between. These LFOs offer sweepable Ramp, Triangle, and Saw waveforms, as well as Pulse or S&H options. The 18dB filter, combined with the additional overdrive circuit, produces a lovely sound. With the fast LFOs, you can even achieve formant-like sounds, although it's a shame that you can't control the LFO frequency via CV.
If noise, the sub-oscillator, or the Ramp/Saw-LFO waveforms are not essential to you, a second-hand Doepfer Dark Energy III (or the A-111-5 module if you’re into Eurorack) might be an interesting alternative. It offers a feature-set similar to that of the GRP-1, is equally well-built, and is more affordable.
Verdict: This synth sounds great but, at least for me, it might be somewhat limited in certain situations, especially considering that there are similar alternatives available at a lower price point. I'm not mentioning Behringer here, as it's important to acknowledge that GRP is a small company. However, there are excellent alternatives available, with the Doepfer Dark Energy/A-111-5 being the closest.

I ended up getting this over the dark energy for a few reasons, thought I’d love to try the dark energy mk1. The grp sounds so good and I love the form factor and build quality. It’s a bit limited compared to some synths, and I also think it’s great and classy all the same!

Nice synth with some cool sweet spots.
