    Bigger wheels will give higher top speed and less torque if compared to smaller wheels with same gear ratio. Higher the gear ratio the more torque and less top speed if kept with same size wheels. Hope this helps anyone wondering.

    Got Carbon GT today with cloud wheels. I tightened the bushings to nearly max. I'm 205lbs. Board is still maneuverable but not wobbly at all. Coming from Meepo V3, initial punch of speed is about the same with full 🔋. Meelo usually loses power due to battery sag, but carbon gt keeps going strong and does not lose speed much in hills. It carves better than meepo even after tightening bushings a lot.
    I'm so glad I got the carbon for $100 more. Looks amazing and the board is one piece.

    I sold my Backfire Ranger X1 because the ride felt a little too lumbering. The OW Bamboo with Cloud wheels really sounds like it hits the sweet spot! The one thing holding me back from buying another Ownboard is that I insist on having a display or app with ride info. That barebones remote might be acceptable for a ~$400 board but, as price scales up, so do expectations.

    It's the diameter of the wheel that makes the difference in top speeds and range. The longer the level arm, the more tangential force needs to be applied for rotation.

    Those cloud wheels remind me of the rough stuff wheels from slick revolution. I found those super unstable in any kind of damp conditions, where you could fishtail easily. Seems dry where you are, maybe this is only a UK problem ;-) In any case great detailed review as usual!

    Looks like a good board - cloud wheels for commuting, AT wheels for weekend fun on dirt and gravel woodland trails, where you wouldn't want to hit the top speed anyway. The only issue is the price with import duty and VAT it's not that far from Evolve, and you still have to deal with Chinese support, so any broken part will take weeks to replace. Unless it goes on sale soon, there's no reason to buy it if you live in Europe.

    • @cooldude20115
      @cooldude20115 4 роки тому

      Especially in Australia. I was looking at the Ownboard Carbon AT against the Evolve GTR Carbon; there was a sale that brought it's price down to about 1500 AUD vs the $2000 AUD of the GTR. I went with the GTR mainly because of customer support and accessibility to parts. Without the sale I believe the Ownboard is actually the same price as the GTR, before shipping or tax.

    Serious question, how does it compare today? It now comes with an oled remote and comes with both wheels and pulleys for 1k.
    For 1k, is it worth it over its bigger brother the Zeus Pro, which is almost double the price for the 2 in 1 option?

  • @ptuxbury
    @ptuxbury 4 роки тому

    So I swapped the AT wheels out for the Cloud wheels on my Carbon AT. In the process, I measured gear ratios & wheel sizes, and the Cloud wheels should have an 8% increase in speed over the AT wheels, but should have lost torque in the process. Why it feels like it accelerates faster to you, Daniel, I don't know. Larger wheels have a greater moment of inertia than smaller wheels (more mass further away from the axis of rotation), so for a given torque they will accelerate slower. Whether that effect is great enough to feel or not, I do not know. I haven't been able to get out to try the wheels for myself yet.

  • @dylandesmond
    @dylandesmond 4 роки тому

    to achieve better braking at lower speed, you could change the belt ration but that would lower top speed, or get a higher torque motor, the 6380 or 6384 motor is best for braking

  • @gregholland11

    I think the top speed is increased on the smaller wheels because the big wheels have lots of squishy drag? If the larger AT wheels have more drag and friction (you can tell if they have worse freeroll characteristics), that added friction will reduce your top speed. I notice this on my ranger x2

    I've heard a lot of bad reviews about Ownboard.* People complain about motor problems, etc. According to a lot of Ownboard owners, the customer service staff also take ages to respond to reports and then they charge you again for faulty components even if you are in warranty. Customers also say that the replacement parts take ages to arrive too.
    I hope Ownboard's customer service isn't as bad as people are saying because I'm interested in buying a board from them, but now I'm having reservations.

I have ExWay X1 Pro, and I am thinking about buying Ownboard Bamboo, mainly because of cloudwheels (your video) so my ride would be smoth. My question is, can you use and ride cloudwheels on ExWay X1 Pro Riot? I have found pictures saying yes, but since you're awesome UA-camr mane you could try it in video? You have all thinks I don't. Wish you the best!!

    • @DanielKwan
      @DanielKwan  4 роки тому +1

      Without removing the motor pulley cover, the biggest size you can use is something like 99mm, and at that size you’re already at risk of getting wheel bite. Cloudwheels are 120mm so you’d need to remove those covers and add risers, but you’d need to cut the rear riser because of the cables that plug into the deck. I never tried this and don’t intend to. I prefer smaller wheels for this board.

    Hello Daniel, I emailed and asked Ownboard if one could use normal/smaller street wheels on their AT boards and they answered that they do not have pulleys for those, do you think it's possible to use those from Evolve? They have both for Kegel and Abec. Best regards

      They are rumored to work. I just ordered a set of Evolve 7" wheels because of their 25% off sale. I'll let you know in a few weeks once I get my bamboo.

      There are a bunch of factories that make e-skate parts for other brands, and more and more of those factories are releasing their own boards under their own brands. None of them make parts for every component so they often source parts from each other.

    I just received my bamboo at a week ago and the belt drive motors make a soft humming/vibrating noise whenever the board is turned on and not moving. Is this normal or is there something wrong with my board?

    Daniel, your lack of homework in to this board and company had been an insane dissapoitnment. A ton of people trusted your opinion and review here only to be let down. Looking at recent reviews and posts on Reddit you'll find that a bunch of people who ordered this board received entirely dead boards on arrival, boards with parts missing, things that are downright dangerous.
    This board nearly killed me yesterday because of this issue, and I trusted your opinion. It won't happen again.

    • @DanielKwan
      @DanielKwan  4 роки тому

      Post the links to some of those recent reviews here please so others can see. I don’t recall seeing more issues for this board than other boards but maybe I just didn’t see those posts. There have also been a bunch of positive reviews for this board. Sorry you got a lemon. Hope Ownboard will get it fixed for you.

    Indeed, missing the display. Aesthetically, have to say, those gold and Word-printed-like slogans are a little too much, but it looks so damn good. I was looking into the new generation of Evolve boards (GTR), but this is getting close. So I'm waiting for a small upgrade to the display side.
