Before Peter Jackson's film trilogy came out, this video game was probably the biggest adaptation of The Hobbit to come out since the 1977 animated film. I enjoyed playing it a lot as a kid, and it's still fun even today. The Game Boy Advance version is pretty good too, for a portable alternative. It arguably saved WB the trouble of releasing a video game adaptation of The Hobbit film trilogy (the LEGO game doesn't count), though I would've loved to see one.
I have a close relative whose 3 year old daughter is often babysitter by me on occasional visits. She was having trouble sleeping without a bed time story, so I read to her the novel “The Hobbit”. She fell asleep very quickly. So cute!
Pity it’s not on Xbox backwards compatibility. I always loved playing this game as I kid, only a tv with 12” for me to see everything. Got me stuck on the trolls for so long then finally got past it a year after I got the game.
Don't know about that .. but 1 things for sure this games Cutscenes are waaay better then "Amazon Rings of Powers" heard that show none canon make it horrific and cringe to watch 😂
I always loved playing this game back when I was a kid but I never saw how this game is similar to the legend of Zelda games but now that I'm older I see how this is similar to the legend of Zelda games.
@@arenring505 I doubt it. Activision-Blizzard, who now own Vivendi Universal and Sierra's assets, do not hold the license to make video games based on The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings. But you should be able to find the PC version of this game on a number of abandonware sites if you know where to go.
@@christophermaccool8029 It's a short level. All you really do is explore and look for item upgrades before proceeding to the next level. Same goes for Beorn's house, which is also exclusive to the GBA version. As for why they're there and not the other versions, it's because it's a different type of game made by a different developer than the other versions. I'm sure you can find a longplay or Let's Play to show you the rest.
No they didn't. They did omit the visit to his house right before entering Mirkwood, but Beorn himself shows up at the Battle of Five Armies in the last level, except he's only in his bear form. But he does talk though, so we get to hear his voice.
If all of you thought that Tauriel was an unneeded female wood elf that was added into the hobbit trilogy despite not being in the book, Lianna came first with in the Hobbit game and is just more useless as she constantly needed to be saved by Bilbo. It’s like the game developers are trying to add in a love interest for Bilbo and yet it never goes anywhere.
This game brilliantly captures Tolkien’s intention to write The Hobbit for his children.

I remember playing this on PS2 , best time of my childhood.
Me too but on xbox. I love this video game... its as good as kotor.
I remember spending hours upon hours replaying this game for the sole fact that I could wear the one ring without fear of Nazgul.
XD
Omg that reminds me of the Fellowship game - where you could explore The Shire and had to hide from the Nazgul.. nightmare fuel

"I hope he's better at dodging boulders than he is at fetching firewood"
This as far as im concerned is the definitive Hobbit adaptation and a better prequel for the PJ lotr trilogy
16:56 Gollum: Handses... Uh, knife. Grr, string. Or-or nothing!
The music at minute 2:35 is simmilar with the soundtrack of movie series ROUTE TO AVONLEA. This proove that soundtrack is celtic
This was better than Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy!

oh easily!
In my opinion I like both the 2003 game and the Peter Jackson trilogy from 2012-14.

never played Zelda so I couldn't be sure lol
This game was nostalgic fun to play, but it could really use a Remaster just as the first 4 Harry Potter games do.
Maybe enough people asking for a remaster will get a remaster done?!?

Well. It looks like Gandalf did it before Obi-Wan: 47:17
Knight_Insane, thank you.
Tom Kane being the narrator
Better then the real movies
Kareem Amara no it is not
Rowan Van Der Gracht yes it is
Rowan Van Der Gracht yes it is
Kareem Amara True that.
How?
Let's petition to have this game remastered by Xbox studio
Also I loved this game so much, except the ending was weak
Tai Kamiya in the voice talents? Now I’ve seen everything.
Ah, so he just named the sword Sting for no reason in the game. Interesting.
Crazy there was a time when people used to make games based off the books, rather than the movies.
This is way before "Lord of the Rings", plus, this is the Bilbo Arc, and not the Frodo Arc.
Man it's been a long time since I play this back when I was a kid I was so scared no idea why though
47:25 General Gandalf.
why didn't we explore Rivendell and talk to Elrond and his family of Elves?
You can do it in the GBA version at least.

@@christophermaccool8029 Yes.

BILBO THE HOBBIT
BARD THE LORD OF THE RINGS
20 years later and I'd play this because Gollum was horrid I hear.
Music:Howard Shore(2012-14)
Directed by:Peter Jackson
Narrated by:Ian Holm and Tom Kane
Bilbo has to deal with bs

anyone else prefer the movies?
Nope. When I was a kid this was pretty effen awesome!!!
I grew up with these games as a kid so you now know which one I prefer
