I will say this is a lovely model and youve done a lovely job to it, as of recent ive bought a class 59/0 (004 if you were wondering) by hornby and as far as it goes on detail its superb but not as good as the dapol 59 but it is an amazing runner and for a railroad plus model im really happy with it, just to get an 8 pin decoder next!
Look, one of my simple pleasures in life, whenever I see a long freight train, is counting the number of wagons as they go past. You’ve posted several clips of this during your video, but have cut them off before the train had fully passed, so I’ve been denied my little piece of joy. It’s not big, and it’s not clever, so behave. 😂
Have really become ever so absorbed into this channel, lovely to relax with in the evening after work. That's even after spending all day working for Network Rail!
Looks stunning now and even better in front of those rake of Yeoman wagons. Well worth the effort spent on it to get it as close to the real things as possible....... sounds pretty awesome too.
Another amazing video. The attention to detail is fantastic. Really enjoy the videos of Everard Junction. Always look forward to your new uploads. Keep up the amazing work.
Wow - what a production. I love your method of painting wheels which I will copy! Thank you for making such an effort to produce an informative and interesting video!
In the early 90s when i was a kid, I received a hornby intercity 225 track set up, got right into it spending pocket money on trees, figures and model buildings. Fast forward to today. Still have it but it's up in the parents attic so watching your videos is always a nice thought of early child hood. Your level of detail and the attention you put in is outstanding. Keep the videos coming
Wow. Fascinating stuff. edit: they actually make specific paints for sleeper grim and roof dirt, it's real rabbit hole this railway modelling business.
A cracking loco, brilliant modelling work ,very impressive, looks smashing pulling all those wagons , just as I remember seeing it at Westbury making the station tremble , A very happy 2023 cheers 🎊
Hi. First of all congratulations on a set of videos you have made on building a model railway. I am approaching retirement and would like to resurrect my interest in the hobby and found your videos excellent. Your attention to detail and information given is second to none. Its been about 40 years since I last had chance to spend time on this hobby and a lot has changed in that time with dcc etc. I am only used to the old analogue way of doing things. Watching your videos has given myself and others endless information on how to go about things, wiring, electrics, track plans, etc etc. Thank you and keep up the good work. Steve.
Yet another masterclass in railway modelling, it's still an utter joy to see your craftsmanship and skills at work. The history section was also informative and the running piece at the end shows how realistic the finished product is. Many thanks for sharing and already looking forward to seeing what you do next.
I am just starting a layout in a shed, so ive been following you for a while, you have some brilliant videos, i have to repair the shed before i start the build, but I will certainly be watching you for tips and tricks
Insane realism, the 59 is a beautiful looking beast, and you've reached stunning levels of realism and perfectly captured the motive power factor. Thanks for a superb video once again
Great video Richard! I was glued to the full video a fantastic modelling job and project and superbly presented in your video with all the background information and videos! Cheers Gary
A fun fact about the Class 59 and 66 is that they were built in London, Ontario, Canada, at the GMD plant there. This is only about 3 hours from my hometown, and as my hometown is right along the CN Kingston subdivision, I would see 66s being transported on their way to Halifax for shipping to the UK when I was very young. I had also seen some on the docks when visiting family in Halifax.
Fingers crossed for future releases. I'm very happy with the model and with a few tweaks from the factory it has the potential to be one of the best. Cheers
I do so enjoy these videos, and as I await 3 N gauge class 59s (including 59001), this was an excellent insight into the detail differences to lookout for. I am also part way through the task of building a rake of the JTA/JUA wagons (in a later livery version). Thanks for making these.
I remember these locos from my days as a signalling manager at Westbury. At that time, I would pick up operational duties - pilotman for single line working or hand signalling, so spent a fair bit of time in the cabs of these machines.
As always this is a great video and thanks for the effort you put into them. The details and history at the start really brought the project to life. Hope you are pleased with this latest addition to the layout
Your attention to detail is almost obsessive and I do not mean that as a criticism, as your profession in real life as a skilled craftsman warrants, you roll this over too your Modelling with superb results, you leave us mere mortals in your wake, the realism in your layout and running sessions are simply superb and what a lovely Loco the 59 is, best wishes and a happy new year, I'm sure there is more fantastic modelling coming up in 2023, regards, Colin.
Absolutely superb. (As always) Next level modelling and attention to detail. I have been extremely fortunate in my career to drive all the 59s (bar 59003) and they are seriously powerful workhorses. For reference, the head light switch was marked high/dim, but in 2017, only dim was the option. Always a treat to see you've uploaded. Thanks.
I read that the headlights ended up getting locked to dim but couldn't confirm it. They certainly seemed to have the headlights on a bright mode in various older photographs. Cheers for the info.
I always get in the model railway mood when watching your videos, could watch them for hours on end. You've certainly done a cracking job on the 59 tempted to try get one myself tbh
Great video as always, just received my Foster Yeoman 59 just after Christmas and now seeing your video I have definitely got myself another model railway project, especially the lights
Hi Richard, great video your attention to detail really comes through when you see the shots of the model after modification passing through the scenery on the layout, I agree with your view that the model is a good place to start and certainly benefited from your attention to detail in the weathering and modifications. Hope you are keeping well and the Granada is tucked up safe for the winter.
Lovin it Richard another amazing update from everard junction! Great work on the loco modifications and details, it looked fantastic going around the layout with the rake of wagons behind it! Keep those video updates coming! Alan.
Hi Richard. Thanks for another great video. When I ordered the ARC Village of Mells class 59 i was led to believe that it would come with Smoke & sound fitted. Alas, no sound but thanks to your work on yours, i've ordered the ESU Loksound 5 chip from Roads & Rails, so will be installing them with the EM1 speaker. Have you thought about fitting a sugar cube speaker as well to improve the sound in the higher frequencies. I feel the EM1 can sound a bit dull with certain sounds (like the spirax valve & wheel flange squeal), just a thought as i'm going to try that with mine. Thanks for the tip with the lights, they do look too blueish so toning them down makes them look much better. My 59 has a different light arrangement so i'll look into the correct working senarios & poss link them out like you did. As i'm no good with an air brush, i'll be leaving mine in the stock factory finish, it's a cracker of a model (like you said) so i'm pleased with it as it is. Thanks again for the great videos, always both informative & entertaining. 👍
I just love watching an artist at work. You brought back to me the excitement of watching a layout at the model railway exhibition at the agricultural hall in London when I was in my teens with my dad. It also dare I say it brought back memories of some of the “weathering” of the North London line (now overground) I used to take to college. Thank you so much.
Brilliant ! I love the detail, history, and passion put into your layout. It`s a true work of art, big fan of your work sir! . always look forward to your updates. Keep up the exellent work!
A well put together layout, everywhere I look I see convincing detail and the weathering on the locos and rolling stock are all specific to year and usage. Likewise the grime and soot on the layout generally is neither overdone or underdone but looks believable in my opinion. Very nicely done Richard you will have hours of pleasure and enjoyment with this layout tweaking it here and there and adding more rolling stock, thank you for sharing your passion with us enthusiasts. All the best for 2023.
Thanks, I spent a lot of time with the weathering. Its tricky do and can be very subjective. I'm quite happy with the results so far and try to strike a balance of different effects. Cheers
Excellent vid. Its not an era I model, so thoroughly enjoyed the back story on 59s. Layout really looking good. Looking forward to your next vid. Happy new year.
Hi Richard, Once again you show how an already good model can be converted into a superb one. Good on you for figuring out a simple solution for the lights and muddling through it, and my goodness was it worth using that brilliant tint paint! 🤓 It really does a great job of ‘scaling down’ the lights, otherwise it’s more like a searchlight! 😄 The sound on it is terrific too. Reminds me of when I lived in Tooting in the 90s when I’d often see a Yeoman train if I sat by the park having a sandwich in the sun. Instantly loved the 59s and it’s great to see how you have kept the engine lightly weathered. I certainly can’t remember ever seeing them particularly dirty myself 🤷🏻♂️ I do so very much love that van train and the permanent way train you have, but I think this has overtaken it as my favourite on your layout. It really is a joy. Great to see the Thumper out on the branch again too 😎 Cheers mate 👍🍀🍻
Great video as always. As a non-Brit it never ceases to amaze me the sub par attention to detail of RTR UK models compared to other countries/manufacturers.
Thanks for this Rich, you're a star. I have one of these in the pipeline and the lighting issue was a bugbear. You've saved many people a headache. Its quite bizzae that some manufacturers continue to make some silly mistakes.
Love the history lesson on the 59's I pull stone out of torr works regularly too. I love seeing the sw1001 shunter and its sister 120 round at Hanson Whatley.
As usual you have improved upon your model and thank you for the history there I really enjoy editing learning something today. Go and have some fun, Chris
I literally just saw you on TV, I was flicking through looking for something to watch an I stopped on 'hornby a model world' because I saw a cool model of scrappy with graffiti a dog phonebox etc an a guy making a tiny washing machine for the scrappy.... now you have a new subscriber lol
Best of wishes, and what a super keen eye to detail as always. Quite odd that the coding of the lights were that off from factory, but you’ve managed to correct them in the end. A superb job overall.
This is brilliant, once the Gaugemaster GBRF 59003 gets announced I shall definitely at least do the headlight config fix as well as fixing the awful temprature used for the cab light!
I admire your skills, to take a fresh out of the box model and hone the details as you did. I will certainly be taking some aspects of what you have done and applying them to my Dapol Yeoman 59. Thank you so much for the in-depth video, keep up the great work as you inspire me to push myself to do more.
I love this! I love the sounds from the decoder and EM1 speaker, they are jaw dropping. I have now pre ordered my own model of 59004 in revised FY livery. Thanks 😊
Cheers Simon. The exhaust was the first thing I ended up doing. Despite not being too familiar with 59s initially my research really opened my eyes to how the model should be etc.
Richard, Thank you for another excellent video. You truly are a Master Modeller and I thoroughly enjoyed your improvements to the Class 59. A very Happy New Year to you, keep up the great work! Alan Wright, Langley, BC
Such nice, subtle work on this engine. Forty-four wagons might be a hard act to pull off even on a huge layout, sixteen is still pretty extraordinary. The ever so appropriately named 'Ken Painter' is looking good. Nice work Richard. The layout is looking great, I'm looking forward to developments in 2023.
As with all forms of modelling and diorama creation it is knowing when to stop and the balance on your layout is spot on. Also, small details like the effort taken with the doors can just be enough to distract from the overall look. The effort was worth it as can be seen with it running. Just a great video to watch and learn from.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who had a few gripes over the 59. It’s a fab model. But within a few days I’d shorted across the lights so they correctly lit all 4
Another great video Richard. Loved the history bit at the start, and your attention to detail, yet again, does you proud. Kudos with the lights, great work for getting them lit properly. Can't believe Dapol didn't do that in the first place. Thanks and all the best.
I've got GBRf 59 from Revolution Trains on preorder. I'll certainly be taking notice now of how the headlights work, and those other details you mentioned. Although, in N Gauge, I won't be attempting any modifications ;)
Couple of things I found with my Yeoman Class 59. The gears and drive shaft connections looked very dry and not greased. I also found that I had to sand the paint off the back of the name and number plates to make them fit better.
Thanks for uploading this video Richard. I will definitely undertaking some of the work on my Yeoman 59, especially the lights, the exhaust port, and them doors, really don't understand why Dapol put open doors on them, when actually they don't open them all the way, so they will be getting sorted just like I have on my Hornby class 60s. Anyway, Great Video 👍
Excellent update Richard, loved the history bit, really informative and entertaining. Also totally understand you wanting to improve the model and make it your own. Never get the opening doors thing myself either. Also very strange Dapol didn't get the lighting correct. 🤔 regards Graham
thanks Richard for another great video you have shown all the things hi have been asking questions about since I got my yeoman class 59 as dapol instructions are not the best that's a great help and a great start to the new year kind regards ralph
Well that's was excellent. New out the box, Let's put everything thats wrong to a better standard. I really think all these model companies need to listen and learn from videos like yours, as well as following in the footsteps of Accurascale, who have raised the bar massively with their rolling stock. However I digress Another amazing video Richard. I applaud you for having the balls and the know how to put them mistakes right and it looks all the better for it.
Thanks! I do enjoy a bit of modelling so was happy to pull the loco to bits. Dapol and Heljan don't have the best track record with regards to quality and accuracy. I hope Dapol can make some improvements to future runs of these models. Cheers
Although I'll never have a 59 on my layout, as it's set in Scotland in 1990, and has no freight facilities, this video was still very worthwhile watching. Couple of things to mention Richard, there were 135, not 125 class 56s built. Also, I bet a lot of people don't know this, but 59005 actually ran in revenue earning service for a short period of time, before it was named, at Merehead, in 1989! I also have a link here to another video, "Railfreight Express TV", where Dickie Davies (Yes, THAT Dickie Davies of ITV Sport fame), looks at Thornaby TMD, and also the class 59! Hope you enjoy it! And, happy new year! ua-cam.com/video/_H0r66CjU8Y/v-deo.html
Another stunning example of fine detailing, just like the layout its running on. Awesome ! I don't understand how the manufacturers get these details and colors wrong, they do it down here in Australia too.
Its not easy designing and making the models, challenges and problems are quite frequent. However I was quietly hoping this one would be better. It's all fixable though, just takes time. Cheers
Hi Richard, Always impressed by your videos and obviously your layout. thank you. I'm about shortly to rebuild my layout to include a fiddle yard, what size is your especially the depth please, regards, Tim

Don't care how long the vid is, going to appreciate every minute! Thanks Richard. 👍
I've watched 4 times already, didn't want to miss a thing Richard. I think someone is going to be in the market for some more limestone hoppers?
If you put this in your description, youtube will automated "chop" the video in to sections that people can click to.
Long videos are very welcome, plenty of detail.
Wow Rich, what an absolute gem of an episode, I think you have set a UA-cam benchmark here buddy
I'm not a railway enthusiast, but, by god, your attention to detail and practical skills are mindblowing. Happy modelling.
I don’t think there is anyone better, nor is there someone who explains how it is done so well
I'm with you there 100%. I have no interest in railway modelling but find this addictive viewing and really admire the attention to detail.
A video that is both informative for rail enthusiasts and inspirational for modellers. Excellent.

16 on the Yeoman rake
Anyone who goes to Lincoln University and doesn't leave for lectures early is forced to take up that hobby
43 on the last one ?
You're gonna love it here in the US. 1.5+ mile long coal drags will keep you counting...
I'm exactly the same. Don't know why but always count the wagons
Evening Richard. What an absolutely fantastic transformation of a modern but classic locomotive 👍🏻
Excellent as usual, but I particularly enjoyed the history.
Does not matter how long just more often. Your work is spot on, love the show.
Another amazing video. The attention to detail is fantastic. Really enjoy the videos of Everard Junction. Always look forward to your new uploads. Keep up the amazing work.
Two Everard Junction vids in quick succession. Yay! Thank you.
That is superb work, Richard. As you suggest, the model's eminently runnable out of the box, but your amendments and upgrades really hit a sweet spot.
Wow - what a production. I love your method of painting wheels which I will copy! Thank you for making such an effort to produce an informative and interesting video!
Great work as always. Liked the documentary section. I can no longer have a layout myself so watching yours is most enjoyable. Thank you

Your patience and detail absorbs me more than the out of box product. Well done. Congratulations. I get a great insight to your minds eye.
A fine job indeed Richard! Small tweaks here and there make a big difference in my opinion.
A cracking loco, brilliant modelling work ,very impressive, looks smashing pulling all those wagons , just as I remember seeing it at Westbury making the station tremble , A very happy 2023 cheers 🎊

Great video Richard! I was glued to the full video a fantastic modelling job and project and superbly presented in your video with all the background information and videos! Cheers Gary
a really fantastic, informative & enjoyable video. really great quality, TV documentary worthy. I super enjoyed, thanks for a great start to 2023
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it. Took a long time to edit but I wanted to tell the story of the 59 as well as the various improvements to the model.

another great video to watch. cheers Richard, happy new year to you and your family.
An absolutely cracking achievement Richard,
Regards Charlie
Cheers Charlie. I'm very pleased with how the work went. Always a bit worrying doing paintwork on a new model!
Yes, a risky business.
Excellent vid. Its not an era I model, so thoroughly enjoyed the back story on 59s. Layout really looking good. Looking forward to your next vid. Happy new year.
The 59 story is quite unusual so I thought it was worth telling. Most locos have good history but I do particularly enjoy the 59. Cheers
Another great video & a nice update of the 59 to make it look correct, It's a shame Dapol didn't get it right from the start.
Well lets just say I wasn't surprised that it needed some work. I'm just happy it was all doable on my workbench. Cheers
This is Fantastic, a real delight to, watch your hard work, to Make this Model More accurate!

A bit ironic that 56031 "Merehead" (one of the Class 56s displaced from the Yeoman trains by the UK's first main line EMDs) now has an EMD engine🙂
I literally just saw you on TV, I was flicking through looking for something to watch an I stopped on 'hornby a model world' because I saw a cool model of scrappy with graffiti a dog phonebox etc an a guy making a tiny washing machine for the scrappy.... now you have a new subscriber lol

He’s mad Antony! Lol I told him not to do it. But he is a detailer of the highest order :-) Dave
Top work as usual.
46:24 new houses!!!!!!
I love this! I love the sounds from the decoder and EM1 speaker, they are jaw dropping. I have now pre ordered my own model of 59004 in revised FY livery. Thanks 😊
Great intricate work there Richard. In particular, the roof exhaust height change chimes with my engineering head for details, Simon
Ken certainly needed some paintwork! Cheers.
But within a few days I’d shorted across the lights so they correctly lit all 4
Used to see Yeoman 59's all the time, we lived near Harlow and they used the sidings at Harlow Mill Station
Another great video Richard. Loved the history bit at the start, and your attention to detail, yet again, does you proud. Kudos with the lights, great work for getting them lit properly. Can't believe Dapol didn't do that in the first place. Thanks and all the best.
It’s got a picture of a train on it…. Scientific selection process lol. Great skills very inspiring. Cheers
awesome work! I ilke the study of the prototype as well! You are quite productive these days!
I very much enjoy the research side of the hobby. Gives the stuff you're modelling a story. Cheers
A superb result, stunning work, thanks for sharing, love it love it !
excellent video and such a perfect broadcast quality voice, very well narrated.
Excellent as always, glad you got the lights sorted in the end dude.
You are deffo committed! I’ll give you that!
I think it's a mixture of madness and commitment! Cheers Eric
Great video loved the real information as well as your superb attention to detail, just fantastic
I've got GBRf 59 from Revolution Trains on preorder. I'll certainly be taking notice now of how the headlights work, and those other details you mentioned.
Although, in N Gauge, I won't be attempting any modifications ;)
I like the term “slight amputation”!
Love this detailed look into the Class 59, really interesting watch!
Your awesome attention to detail pays off.
Nice loco and even better after the work you’ve done 👍 I had a good laugh at the “opening doors” 😂😂😂
Thanks Alan. Glad you enjoyed it.
Splendid! I am impressed with the light weathering.
Excellent update Richard, loved the history bit, really informative and entertaining. Also totally understand you wanting to improve the model and make it your own. Never get the opening doors thing myself either. Also very strange Dapol didn't get the lighting correct. 🤔 regards Graham
It's all fixable, I hope they can make some improvements to future production runs. Cheers
Very enjoyable 49mins of Everard Junction- thank you and Happy New Year 👍
thanks Richard for another great video you have shown all the things hi have been asking questions about since I got my yeoman class 59 as dapol instructions are not the best
that's a great help and a great start to the new year
kind regards
ralph
Cheers
Great indepth video and full of tips and information Richard thanks
Looking well Alan. Not a lot of space left in the shed, maybe need to extend into the Garden!
Happy new year Mate.
AMAZING Content. Thank you.
Another masterpiece.. love your narration skills too.. cheers
Cheers
A very enjoyable video, great work!
Hi Richard, Always impressed by your videos and obviously your layout. thank you. I'm about shortly to rebuild my layout to include a fiddle yard, what size is your especially the depth please, regards, Tim
Excellent stuff! Did Road and Rails supply the EM1 speaker too?
