What if all of Chloe's lost glue guns over the years keep ending up in the 5-minute crafts universe, hence why they're so obsessed with glue gun hacks? LOL.
Now that is a blindingly good explanation for the loss of so many glue guns....unless, well unless Chloe is in fact murdering them and they are bleeding all over her desk, which would of course explain the deep, red stains on it in the video. Did you go back and check? I bet you did! Also, am I over thinking things today? Lol

Hey kids, want a quick and easy way to make art? Instead of using one paintbrush, ruin 15 cotton swabs, a toothbrush, and your mom's credit card!!! :D :D :D
I only buy cotton swabs for art so I guess they're not ruined to me, but yeah the other stuff is obviously more to be "edgy." I guess if you have no scraper you could use like a gift card with a 0 balance or something, that could be wiped off and reused for another project.
I mean, I get the cotton swabs - but the rest I was like.. what? And I guess if I have replaced my toothbrush recently and wash it out well - it's just repurposing the toothbrush (which you can also buy cheap ones for a dollar but not the point!) but the credit card was wierd.
The credit card one isn't weird. Lindsey's channel- the frugal crafter uses cut up credit cards/ store cards etc for scraping in paintings all of the time. She swears by it and are free..rather than buying expensive tools.
My Mum is an artist, and swears by using random materials as art supplies. She uses old library cards or rewards cards for stores in the same way they suggested using a credit card, because they're easy to wipe clean and are hard enough to leave a solid line, but can also be scraped down the page or canvas for different texture. They're also awesome for texture paste if you don't have any other kind of scraping tool.
So yeah. The reason nobody will tell you to use olive oil to blend colored pencils is because 1. oil degrades the paper, 2. it soaks into the paper and spreads, 3. odorless mineral spirits and zest-it are far better choices and that's what they're for, and, finally, 4. using salad dressing on your art will make your house stink. Please don't 😆
I haven’t really seen anyone use olive oil with colored pencils. Usually it’s baby oil, Vaseline, or gamsol/odorless mineral spirits that people use to blend out pencils. You need several layers of color so that the oil has enough pigment to break down and move around the paper.
@@grannym2880 yes. And that oil will ruin the paper over time. That’s why artists use odourless mineral spirits, because it will blend the pencil, then evaporate off into nothing
The coloured pencil artist in me cringes at baby oil and olive oil. It does oil stain your paper and is not archival. Use OMS, Zest it, blender pens or pencils or a stiff bristle brush!
I did image tracing with sharpie markers on dollar store glass picture frames with preschoolers (taping the edges for safety) they used colored sharpies to coloring in their tracing then we put it back in frame without the backing. It turned out very cute and the pre k’s loved that they could draw a favorite character ( had Batman, Winnie the Pooh, transformers etc to select from). Key was to tape the paper to the glass before tracing
Legit love that cookie jar! Would make a great storage thing for art supplies too :) the olive oil one is like wait… why has no one told us this ? Haha
@@wrongturnVfor I have also used baby oil, it works really well it doesn't get mouldy in dark scrap books like some cooking oils ( found that out the hard way!). I would also like to point out to people that a few thousand years ago some clever people worked out the pigment with oil benefits, today we call it "oil paint". Linseed oil works beautifully, and certain quality made Linseed oils are archival as well. It is a lot of fun to play with and costs next to nothing (the baby oils and cooking oils I meant, not the archival Linseed - that S*%t is expensive!)
That trace n paint jar hack actually looks kinda good, I think I would skip painting the interior so I could use it for food stuff except that might be worrisome when it came to washing but yeah it would be a nice way to make odds and sods jars. Congratulations on finding so many decent to kinda good hacks on five minute crafts.
For an odds and ends jar you’d have to be careful because any little thing could scratch the acrylic paint off the interior of the jar. I would use glass paint that you bake on. I recently used some on a $2 salt shaker to make it more personalized and it worked great! The stuff I used was translucent, but they make opaque glass paints that bake on.
"I don't know why 5 minute crafts is so obsessed with glue guns and 3D pens, they are like: 'Oh, got a broken fence? Here... use a 3D pen.'" Quote of the year :D
When I want to peel hot glue I tend to use a small picture frame or a glass table. It won't stick to the glass so works well. Also an exacto knife can help unstick it
Glue guns don't stick to Silicone. Get a silicone mat to craft gluegun crafts. Great for stencils and TTRPG special effect crafts: spell area of effects, slime, ooze, fire etc, crafts. I have circles for Fireball, Tiny hut, and slimes and other spell effects and plan on making more.
I've used a variety of oily items to blend colored pencils. Chapstick even works! Petroleum jelly, baby oil (my fav), etc. A variety of tools to apply/rub in - collon swabs, old paint brushes, pretty much anything that might get in those tiny spots without trouble. A tiny amount of oil will do it - too much & you CAN over-saturate your paper, and some products will forever leave a wierd sheen in that area. Edited to add: You may struggle to add additional colored pencil layers to these areas, so proceed to blending stage with caution. View it as a "final" stage in the creation.
You can use baby oil as well. The Q-Tip works better than a brush because it has more friction to move the pigment around. A glass bowl or a metal tray(like a cookie sheet) would work for the hot glue/mask hack.
This was a fun video! Loved the editing and cameraman Cam😊 Baby oil works even better than olive oil- it’s basically a DIY solvent, which is something a lot of pencil artists use on lower layers to save time and fill out colors. Olive oil and other oils will sometimes change the color of the paper, so they’re not as good. The key is not to use too much. And it would probably work for crayon too- it breaks down the wax and pigment. Nail polish remover also works great! I’d suggest a cotton bud instead of a brush to reduce the amount you apply 😊
For hot glue, wax paper or silicon mats would work. I've never used oil, for crayon or colored pencils, I often use a tissue (if you get the one with lotion or the Vicks scented ones, it works really good).
I think qtips actually would have worked better than a paintbrush on the second hack, we used to do the same thing with colored pencils, qtips and alcohol in art class in high school. :)
12:20 I actually saw when all of this started that pediatric nurses were using a monkey from the barrel of monkeys toy(they sell them everywhere even dollar stores) n it's used in the same way. In Germany these "hooks" for masks are a thing, especially for ffp2/n95 masks they usually come with the masks. I also bought some that have adaptable length so I can really make a mask fit my face
Tons of people with 3D printers across Canada and the USA where mass printing things like those for medical professionals at the beginning of the pandemic, free blue prints where sent to anyone willing to make them and then they just delivered them to hospitals
The cotton ball trees might be pretty if you took, like, orange and yellow and red paint swirled together for fall trees. If I had any paint I might try that!
The pencil blending works a little better with baby oil! Many, many people use oil , hand sanitizer, and more to blend pencils. . But I think baby oil works the best!
3:02 - Can't find a black one - literally a black sharpie in the frame at the same time... Also, last trick works really well for putting a handle on a razor blade.

“I don’t think that’s safe” …. Yeah safety, common sense and honesty aren’t really aspects that go hand in hand with 5 minutes crafts
common sense is nearly extinct now.
that's because they hold glue guns in both hands and have none left over for this other stuff you mentioned
Yeah... *flashbacks to them putting strawberries in bleach*
What happens when you need to sharpen the pencil? The hot glue doesn't move like the foam grips
Of COURSE 5MC didn't factor that in. Why would they? 💀 Gosh
