This a store that I would save up for an entire year & just go ham and buy everything I ever wanted. Truly a paradise for artists. I wish there was one in Puerto Rico!
I agree with you, the art supplies from art stores in Puerto Rico are hellaaa expensive broo!!!!! I literally buy alternative art supplies at places like Always 99, Almancen China, and Walmart😔
I would have an absolute meltdown in a store like this, I'm both happy and sad that we don't have anything compared to this, my wallet is empty enough x'D
I’m in Adelaide, South Australia and the biggest art stores we have are spotlight and Lincraft but they have nowhere near the range a lot of the American stores have! It would be awesome to have them here!
that friendly plastic is thermoplastic I think, which means it's a re-usable and moldable plastic. it's great for little repairs around the house (I no longer have to throw stuff out if i can't find a replacement part, I can often make it myself instead)
Thermoplastic is basically just HDPE #2 plastic which is the same stuff they make bottle caps and milk jugs out of. So if you're ever in a pinch you can recycle some that way. Brothers Make on youtube have some great tips about it
Thermoplastic is also really useful in jewelry making! Particularly with stone setting, you use it to hold your piece steady and put it in a vice so you can set stones. Super handy stuff.
13:55 I haven't seen one of those drawing horses since I was in art school. It never occurred to me it was something you could buy in a store. I've always just seen them in the figure drawing studio. You're right, they aren't the most comfortable, but for what they are for, they work well.
I hated having life life drawing class first thing in the morning. The horses have no back, so you can't lean back and lazy draw after you've been up all night working on a project.
I started out with Grumbacher acrylics, then Liquitex, and lately I prefer Golden to either of those or Winsor Newton. BUT my favorite acrylic paint is M. Graham. I also use their gouache, which is comparable to the Holbein. You can't go wrong with M Graham.
“basic instruction Chloe😭” it’s okay I struggle to follow basic instructions too 😂I love you Chloe, you always make me laugh. I loved this video as always! Also good luck on your Disney run soon
What an awesome shop. I’m a professional artist & I used to use Liquitex heavy body but I recently discovered Golden Open acrylics and completely switched 😅 Golden are my favourite now, I love the Open ones for the slower drying time, means less paint waste as well as nicer blending, glazing and layering. I find them a lot nicer to work with too. Their metal tubes are also an additional plus point for me.
Chloe, don't know if you'll ever see this 11 months later, but for easels, there is a lyre-style (A-frame) easel type that starts under $100 and goes up to $300+. Many art suppliers sell them. They are one of the most common and affordable types of easels. I bought one a few years ago for around $100 on sale. I was able to put it together fairly easily and it serves my needs just fine for the present. I will likely want a bigger, fancier and more versatile one in the future, but this one should serve me well for now.
I haven't been in an art shop for 4 years... or any shop for that matter. I may have to re-join scoiety this year. 🤔 😂 I use the leftover scraps of my Lush solid shampoos and soaps to clean my brushes, and they work really well! You'll never regret getting a bigger pallette. 😊
I'd be really interested to know how the pink soap compares with your baby shampoo, Chloe. I've always used a white, perfume-free toilet soap, if needed, and if the brushes lose their touch, I'll treat them with a simple hair conditioner. I have brushes from the 1980's that are still in good condition (Winsor and Newton Sceptre Gold and Sceptre Gold II), as are my sable Rosemary and Co brushes, and I was painting at least twice a week with groups until I moved here to France. It was Rosemary, of Rosemary and Co who actually told us (it was at an art fair. She was showing her products) about the soap and conditioner, so it came from someone who really knows her stuff! It's where I bought my first R & Co brushes and I'm still using those brushes. So I tend to get a bit upset when people are paying money for branded brush care products that are unnecessary. So yes, please, would you do a comparison of the two, maybe done over a period of time? 😊
I just found this out a few weeks ago but there's 2 different kinds of gouache! Acrylic gouache or watercolor gouache. The ones you bought are the acrylic based so they act more like an acrylic and won't reactivate as easily as the watercolor gouache. Both have that nice matte finish that gouache is known for. Holbein is my fav (maybe biased because the vice president came to my work and showed my coworkers and I all the cool things like the irodori gouache😂😂)
@@oneironautartist921 that's what I thought too until the holbein people corrected me on it. I still think it won't since it has an acrylic based binder
I almost didn't want to watch this video out of pure envy. 😂 As far as I'm aware we don't have anything like this in the UK (possibly a good thing or I would be homeless and surrounded by art supplies! 😂) As it is you though Chloe I decided to watch it and just fume silently (ish) away to myself 😂😂
Golden is 100% my favorite. I use both heavy body and fluid paints depending on what I'm going for. The colors are so much more vibrant, and keep you from having to use more coats to create the same look. I used to use liqiudtex, but have switched to only using golden with my canvases. Yet. when painting clay, I've learned that golden makes the clay melty. So for that I use liqiudtex.
I agree that Golden is a superlative brand. The company is worker owned, something I appreciate in addition to the quality of the paints. I've used fluids the most, and they are highly pigmented. On their vlog someone asked how long the paints should last, and the answer was "forever'.( I assume that means properly stored.} I've not had to buy paints to replace them unless I've used them up, so I can attest they will last for a long time.
I love this store! The only reason i discovered this store in my somewhat neighborhood was your first video about it. I drive about an hour but thats nothing compared to your trip lol. Everytime i go there my wallet shrinks, i love this place.
I keep meaning to get the butcher tray as well but haven’t as of yet. I loved shopping vicariously through you. Most items you bought I would definitely buy! Looks like a cool store!!!
Holy cow I wish there was a store like that near me 🤩 I totally understand that weird easel with the bench. When I’m sitting for extended periods of time working on art I actually pull my piano bench up to the table to get the pressure off the back of my thighs. It’s also a little better on the back for me. I haven’t tried liquitex, but I did buy one bottle of white golden fluid acrylics. Reason being is I use plaid pants, I needed a better quality white because the cheaper brands have a weird consistency and I got tired of fussing with cheap white paint. I’m really looking forward to trying your brush set, I’ve got some projects coming up that I want to paint with them 😁
Hi! someone who does graphic design for an art store on the east coast! Golden has better mediums then Liquitex and their high fluid is more like Liquitex's acrylic ink. Other then that I would say quality wise on the normal heavy body paints are pretty similar. Keep in mind that the Liquitex does have their BASICS brand and Acrylic Gouache as well, and that is something Golden doesn't have.
I have always found golden to be superior to liquitex! They always go down on the canvas smoother than liquitex, and the colors are just absolutely stunning. Golden also has a lot of extra mix ins for their acrylic to play with the texture and what you can apply the medium to! I also love their fluid acrylics!!!
(1) I love two dots and have been playing since it was in beta! (2) I have the panda version of that pencil case and it’s adorable! Push down on it to pop the bottom in - makes it more stable to stand up and pushes all your pens up for easy grabbing from your desktop! ❤
Funny you mention versus Golden and Liquitex. My university teacher required us to buy Golden acrylics so we could get a feel for high quality paints with a much higher pigment load than cheap acrylics. However, since graduating I'm moving towards Liquitex acrylics because I like the cap better. Haven't used them long term yet, but I got tired of pulling my pliers out every time I wanted to open a tube of Golden Acrylic paint.
Way to go on will power. I can’t go into an art store and buy what I need, I’ll buy everything that interests me. And I do mean everything. Lol that store looks heavenly. And yay for boyfriend shopping with you and looked like he was having fun too.
Heck, wish we had this in the uk!!! I would spend hours in a store like this and would definitely have to set a budget for all the lovely goodies available!
As someone who did take art in college, my back started hurting in remembered pain from those bench easels. They do allow you to sit in ways you can’t in chairs but they kill your bum.
I was so glad you 1st had shown and then mentioned the cadmium free Golden paints! I knew you were in a California store and wanted to ask you what they carried in the Golden line, so all this is excellent information. 🎨 🖌. You made my day!
i live very close to art supply warehouse and realized from this vid that it’s the only one… always thought there were a few more. glad i live close by but even the 5 minute drive is a treat for me
Oh my gosh…I’m a painter mostly, but I go NUTS over those beautiful papers. The handmade ones in the art stores ESPECIALLY. Also, Graphic 45, Stamperia, just any of those higher quality, beautiful papers. My problem is that I keep “collecting” them and never using them, lol. I also use those butcher trays every time I paint. I have the medium size and the large. LOVE them. I think they are the very best palettes I’ve ever used for acrylics. 💖🌸💖
I’m from California and I’ve never heard of it🤯. Now I live in Oregon so the next time I go down there, I will check this out. We are severely restricted as to the number of suitcases we can take on a plane, so I might have to have my haul shipped.😜
Hullo Chloe! You are truly inspirational, a joy to watch! I have used both Liquitex and Golden’s acrylic paints and I like Liquitex more as both are top level brands but you must pay for the extra advertising! Acrylic paint is the one kind of paint that you can use the cheaper brands and unless you buy the very watery types they all work well as they are all the same level of plastic! Acrylics are unique in they only have a specific amount of medium and they just don’t have more the more expensive you buy! You can add pigment to a brand and sometimes that can be a reason for higher expense. Thank you for sharing your trip to this art store, your a fun date! Please take care and enjoy your day!
Golden has a higher pigment load than liquitex meaning they are a bit better colour wise, richer and doesn't break down when mixed with other mediums. I've found Golden seem to have a wider selection of colours too, bigger range of hues.
Golden is better than Liquitex in every way, imo! It's much more pigmented in my experience, particularly if you're going with the heavy body. It just goes *so much* further. I painted a 3D print of a sculpture I made, and you could really tell that the Liquitex wasn't as pigmented when trying to cover all that white filament. Golden also owns my favorite oil paint brand, Williamsburg, which is expensive, but also *chef's kiss*. Also, my very favorite easel can lay flat, spin in circles, tilt forward, etc. Any orientation you want. It's called the Artristic studio easel, and it's only $300 USD. You can even get a board that attaches to it so you can use it for drawings or watercolor. It will hold as small as 5x7in and up to something like 50x50in. It's *amazing*, and so is their customer service. They replaced a part for me like 4 years after I bought it. The price point is amazing since a wood H frame that rotates and that is a thousand or more. Highly, HIGHLY recommend!
I love Two Dots! I'm on level 2453 and I play it most days. 😊 I really want to go to that Art Warehouse. It looks amazing! I'm not much of a painter but all those sketch books had me drooling. The clay aisle was my favorite though. 🙂🎨🖋📒
I wish a store like that was close to me!! Just my opinion, but I think both Liquitex and Golden are high quality and worth the prices. There are levels of quality (Basic/student vs. Professional/Artist), the main difference between the quality levels is the pigment load, it's higher in the professional version, so you get very saturated paint that can be mixed without becoming washed out or dull too soon, and both brands make really good paint. Both let you know on the label if they're "transparent" or "opaque" so you know how they'll react with mixed/thinned, but Golden's tubes have actual paint on them over a striped background so you can see just how transparent/opaque the color is. I've been using the Liquitex Professional "Soft body" which comes in squeeze bottles and I love it! Even though it is thinner in viscosity than the heavy body, it's just as opaque and colorful as Heavy Body, but it glides across the surface with little effort in a smooth application. So depending on your preference, you can have a smooth painting or one with raised brush strokes. (I got a chance to test the Liquitex cadmium-free version when it first came out, and the cad-free red alongside the original cadmium version is a perfect duplicate!)
I have one of those standing pencil cases and I love it! I have the grey cat one. I have also bought those Shakespeare insult bandages for my sister who is Shakespeare obsessed. 😂 she hasn't used them, she loves them too much
Omg that store is just a dream! I would spend all day in there 💗 That gigantic bin of all those brushes is amazing! That speedball pink soap is my favorite - smells like almond.
Dude I love two dots! It's one of my go-to games.. the scavenger hunts are my favorite ❤ turn the sound on for it... they all make cute noises and for some voices you can find someone who makes that noise in every scavenger hunt... so it's really fun searching for who's gonna make that noise on this one. My favorite is a seemingly female dot who goes "Arrr!" in the cutest little voice and she's usually wearing a pirate hat but not always, and the dot itself looks totally different so it's not the same "person " each time. I love searching her out every time along with the items. Important note: make sure you record your game ID or properly link the account to Facebook or whatever before you change phones..... I thought it was ok with Google play, but turns out I didn't have it set up right and I lost everything. They were nice enough to work with me and help with at least getting me set up on a new account and back to my previous level with roughly the same coins and bonus things I had, even though they couldn't do anything about the lost portraits and awards and everything else
If you're looking for Zebra pens, check out your local Dollar Tree. The stores in my area usually have a few. I've also seen their colored mechanical pencils. They make a quick dry ink that writes reliably on receipt paper (and if you work retail, you know what a pain in the ass that paper is).
So depressing after my trip to the big orange lettered craft store last week. Almost no art supplies anymore and all the canvases were on clearance which looks like they are just doing away with them completely. It's so hard to even find art supplies in store around here and California is a couple thousand miles away.
In Australia (the part where I am, anyway), Liquitex is far more common and affordable, where Golden costs a lot more. But I personally like the Golden paints better!
OMG! I love to shop for art supplies, just to have them. Would be nice if I started using some of them. 😃 FYI: Murphy's Oil Soap is awesome for cleaning brushes. If you forget to clean an oil brush, soak it overnight and the paint will come out. I think it works for acrylic too, but alcohol also works for acrylic. I've been using Murphy's to clean my brushes after every few uses for 30 years.
that nose pencil sharpener brought back memories! we used to have a box in school (2013-2017) with random stuff, where you could grab something for your birthday my bday was forgotten most of the time bc i don't talk a lot and i felt greedy reminding the teacher just for something in the box but in the last year i was able to grab something and decided on that exact nose pencil sharpener, it should still be in some box in my room
I my self buy golden and its my favorite paint brand. I adore it so much. Ive used a little bit of liquitex, i am not a fan of them. I also adore this store, ive never been but i wish i could go. love your videos so much! I adore watching you go shopping for supplies.
I personally prefer the Golden brand acrylic paint because I find them having a slightly better pigment concentration, and I also like how they have a really good slow drying medium. I prefer the longer dry time because it lasts longer on the palette but then dries fairly quickly on the canvas.
For me, I prefer Golden over Liquitex. Liquitex has more additives that you can use with the paint (extenders, etc.) but I think Golden has a better color payoff and paint texture raw for impasto etc. As for the benches you don't understand, those are to hold the large pads of newsprint for drawing upright while sitting down. We used them in art school for figure drawing classes.
So when Chloe started talking about getting an eagle, you can get pretty decent ones for around $100 on Amazon, obviously they won't be as good as the ones in the store though
I prefer liquitex! Golden is tacky, sticky, unpleasant to work with and dries more glossy. In the end that doesn't matter, because I varnish it up. But liquitex is just overall nicer to work with for me. I used to interchange them depending on what was on sale at the time, but I always regret buying golden and only reach for them if I'm desperate. However, I notice I'm in the minority in the comments. 😅😅 but I feel how I feel! Lol.
I have a different brand of the horizontal light. I got it off Amazon and it’s really inexpensive and comes in a way smaller box. It’s amazing! I recommend it for any type of artist.
Last night when I opened my UA-cam Subscription page I saw the title of your post and yelled. Probably scared my husband. When I first shopped online at Art Supply Warehouse, I let them know that I learned about them from your channel.
If you like to play cozy video games and love bears, I feel like you should play Cozy Grove. They have a bear named Jeremy. And many more bears, but that feels like the important part.
Golden to me feels waaaay better quality than liquitex, tbh, it looks less plastick-y and colors are more interesting. To slower dry time a lttle and unify finish I bought Open medium, it also makes acrylics feel better: less sticky, more like oil
As someone who did go to art school for a semester before taking a break ... thanks covid 💀... Those wooden benches may seem strange but you'll be thankful for them after about 10 hrs on your feet in front of the same piece... especially since they dual as a seat and an easel so they can be used to prop up your work lol
Ha, on the bench at 14:00 that you were questioning the usefulness of - we had those for drawing classes in college and they were actually really nice to use when working on large drawings. I've thought a few times about getting one.

Acrylics are unique in they only have a specific amount of medium and they just don’t have more the more expensive you buy! You can add pigment to a brand and sometimes that can be a reason for higher expense. Thank you for sharing your trip to this art store, your a fun date! Please take care and enjoy your day!
oh how much fun in a store that big to shop for supplies very Kool.
Grumbacher -- Grum BACKER. Pink soap, good stuff!!! Use it all the time.
Chloe, I'm glad you got your enamel butcher's tray like Mira. They are awesome for art and for cooking! x Nell
Golden has a higher pigment load than liquitex meaning they are a bit better colour wise, richer and doesn't break down when mixed with other mediums. I've found Golden seem to have a wider selection of colours too, bigger range of hues.
I have been painting with a butcher tray for years....Love them. I go back and forth between Golden and Liquitex, to me I can't tell the difference.
"Thanks Pilot, appreciate that"
Lol, Chloe is just such a vibe. Luv ur art btw !
MURPHY'S OIL SOAP is the BEST!!! It took off DRIED acrylic from my brushes! Just let it sit in the soap for a few minutes and it just comes right off!
Oooh... I would have trouble not going crazy in a huge discount art store like that, lol-- I live in a small town and don't get out very much.
I love the Frixion series by Pilot they're all so nice!
😂 she hasn't used them, she loves them too much
I gave those standing pencil cases as Xmas gifts one year. Big hit! 💝
Omg that store is just a dream! I would spend all day in there 💗 That gigantic bin of all those brushes is amazing! That speedball pink soap is my favorite - smells like almond.
I go there all the time! And walk every aisle!!!!! And they have a twice a year 25% off everything!
Try looking at easel/drafting desks! I have one and the top angles up to act like an easel but you can also put it back down to use like a normal desk
So depressing after my trip to the big orange lettered craft store last week. Almost no art supplies anymore and all the canvases were on clearance which looks like they are just doing away with them completely. It's so hard to even find art supplies in store around here and California is a couple thousand miles away.
I used to live down the street from here! Love this place!
Hope you had fun at Disneyland!! 🌞 One full day needed for the store! 😍
that nose pencil sharpener brought back memories!
we used to have a box in school (2013-2017) with random stuff, where you could grab something for your birthday
my bday was forgotten most of the time bc i don't talk a lot and i felt greedy reminding the teacher just for something in the box
but in the last year i was able to grab something and decided on that exact nose pencil sharpener, it should still be in some box in my room
Chloe can you pleeeeeeeaase do more decorating license plates!!!!
I loved all those little things they had especially that artistic license notebook thing 😍😍
Wow, I'd go in there looking for a fan brush and pallet knife and come out with half the store and an empty bank account. 😃😃👋👋💖💖
Omg I’m so happy you went to Art Supply Wearhouse. It’s my local art small store!
I so want to go to that shop! I prefer Golden acrylics to liquitex
Those erasable highlighters are my life. I highlight maps for people at my work and they are a life saver. That brand, in my opinion is the best.
I found out that a drop or two of a weak bleach solution works great to ‘erase’ highlights!
This place is heaven.
Thank you, never knew of this place but it’s only about 11 miles from me. Can’t wait to go 😊
Witch hazel is good for cleaning your brushes instead of turpentine. I use mrs Meyer's soap to clean my brushes and they are still going strong.
So when Chloe started talking about getting an eagle, you can get pretty decent ones for around $100 on Amazon, obviously they won't be as good as the ones in the store though
that nylon brush at 8:13 is great for calligraphy
I like that Liquitex acts a little more like Gamblin oils and since I can't tollerate the smell of oils very much any more it's a good comprimise.
The etchr sketchbooks are phenomenal but they are designed for watercolour in particular
If that stool/easel combo is fairly light weight it could be for plein air painters. Less to lug around.
Lol.
What!?!? This my absolute favorite art store!!! I go all the time!!! This is so cool!
It’s a routine for me to every night lie in bed and watch a random video wether I watched it before I always love them
I have a different brand of the horizontal light. I got it off Amazon and it’s really inexpensive and comes in a way smaller box. It’s amazing! I recommend it for any type of artist.
Thanks for the suggestion! I haven’t looked online yet so I’ll have to look at all my options 🙌
Pink soap is amazing!!!
My favorite store! I go there whenever I am in the area.
I was excited to find they have a web site!!!
Last night when I opened my UA-cam Subscription page I saw the title of your post and yelled. Probably scared my husband. When I first shopped online at Art Supply Warehouse, I let them know that I learned about them from your channel.
aww! Thanks so much :)
I know Tenhundred really likes the Golden paints
Ha, on the bench at 14:00 that you were questioning the usefulness of - we had those for drawing classes in college and they were actually really nice to use when working on large drawings. I've thought a few times about getting one.
Love me some two dots lol. Crazy that was an add 😂😂. Its an oldie but a goodie.
I love the giant paintbrushes next to the tinny paints
OOOoooohhh!!!! I wanna go to that art store!!! If I ever got the lottery 😂. I use a butchers tray too, they are the BEST!!!
I HAVE NEVER SEEN SO MANY COPICS OH MY!!! 😮😮😮
