    WHAT IS CELIAC DISEASE:
In coeliac disease your immune system gets triggered, not by a germ, but by a protein called GLUTEN. Your immune system produces antibodies against the GLIADIN aspect of gluten. This causes inflammation, or swelling, in your intestine. That’s why coeliac disease is known as an “autoimmune disease”- this is when your immune system attacks your own body.
The inflammation flattens villi in your intestine. This prevents you from absorbing the nutrients from your food and can lead to all sorts of problems
    CELIAC DISEASE SYMPTOMS:
It is so important for you to get checked by a healthcare professional if you have any of the tell-tale symptoms I am going to mention right now!
Remember, the sooner you are diagnosed with coeliac disease, the better your chances are of preventing long term health problems.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT remove gluten from your diet for any reason. Even if you have symptoms! That’s because you won’t know if you have coeliac disease UNTIL you are tested. You need gluten to trigger the production of enough antibodies to be detected by the test. After antibodies are detected you will normally have a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis.
Here are the main symptoms of coeliac disease:
    - NUMBER ONE: Gut problems like bloating, diarrhoea, nausea, wind, constipation! These are all due to gluten causing inflammation.
    - NUMBER TWO: Tiredness, anaemia and mouth ulcers! These are likely due to deficiencies in vitamins like iron or vitamin D because you’ve got so much inflammation your villi can’t absorb them from your food.
NUMBER THREE: Unexpected weight loss - This will need an urgent appointment with your healthcare professional
GLUTEN FREE FOODS AND FOODS TO AVOID IN CELIAC DISEASE:
When you're first diagnosed with coeliac disease, you'll should always be referred to a dietitian to help you adjust to your new diet without gluten. They can also ensure your diet is balanced and contains all the nutrients you need.
If you have coeliac disease, do not eat the following foods, unless they're labelled as gluten-free versions:
    - bread
    - pasta
    - cereals
    - biscuits or crackers
    - cakes and pastries
    - pies
    - gravies and sauces
It's important to always check the labels of the foods you buy. Many foods - particularly those that are processed - contain gluten in additives, such as malt flavouring and modified food starch.
Gluten may also be found in some non-food products, including lipstick, postage stamps and some types of medication.
Cross-contamination can occur if gluten-free foods and foods that contain gluten are prepared together or served with the same utensils.
For more information on foods to avoid please visit the following website,

The last important thing to stress is that contamination is a huge issue... not just a matter of keeping your preparation area "safe". It affects "eating out" even in restaurants that offer "GF" options rather than being a "dedicated" GF facility because of their kitchen practices or often their lack of knowledge and it's now becoming a huge problem when products are labeling their items "" without mentioning that they might be processed in a facility that also processes wheat etc...This can really affect your healing process and your quality of life.

Yes! it's such a pain in the you-know-what! I hate it! I don't go to restaurants anymore. Not worth the risk.

    • @TheGalwayfan
      @TheGalwayfan 2 роки тому +2

@@romancanada Bananas are gluten free. Gluten is found in wheat, rye, barley and contaminated oats. Specifically it's the gliadin in wheat, secalin in rye and hordein in barley. Some celiacs are bothered by the avenin in oats. All other grains are fine. People claim not to be able to eat them but no other grains promote the autoimmune response.

You don't really deserve a thumbs down because your innovative, informative fun videos are excellent ...I just had to give it for this one because you DIDN'T tell us all we need to know about Celiac Disease....and you also might have given the impression (by stressing "don't be too hard on yourself") that you can cheat and still heal... Not so. As someone whose career was ruined by being misdiagnosed with just IBS and Lactose Intolerance for 14 years...I can attest that you can totally regain your life if you adhere strictly to a GF diet. You didn't mention Celiac Sprue...the skin irritation version nor that most become lactose intolerant before diagnosis but that, , 70% return to normal on the diet. I'm one of them as the "sticky" diarrhea was often worse to try to manage at work than the extreme bloating and wind. I do think you covered most of the basics and stressed you must get a healthcare worker involved asap but we certainly don't know "all there is to know" from THIS video. I love your one on using spacers and how to use Levothyroxine...and I look forward to watching many more. Thanks for taking the time to do these!!

I think, IBS is a disorder and Celiac is an autoimmune disease and gluten intolerance is when your immune system overreacts after you eat a certain food that contains gluten...

Remarkable how much trust and importance people give to "your health care professional". The last time I went to a doctor and had a blood test, although the test results showed a remarkably low leucosyte count, the first thing the doctor wanted to know if I needed a covid jab! I went twice to a health care professional whom I have often met socially-she never once subseuqently showed any interest whatsoever in how I was doing. People will get much more help online than from most doctors and other "health care professionals". It would be useful if someone could give suggestions for distinguishing betwen celliac, histmaine intolerance and IBS Now I know there is a simple test for celliac-in the last ten years not one doctor or health practitoner out of four different ones suggested I take a test or even mentioned that one existed. For most things going to a doctors surgery is a waste of time; worse, it increase sstres sand even carries a certain risk since the surgeries are full of people with various bugs. It is right that it important to know if you have celliac disease or not but dont expect your doctor to think of that.
