Some things I noticed about how some of the characters are handled is that, for Aang, Katara, and Sokka, they’ve been building confidence as the story’s progressed. In particular, I kind of feel that, other than her temperament, Katara was almost as perfect a character as Azula. For this show, I feel like they’re building up to those characters in order to either make them more sympathetic through their struggles, or compelling, maybe because of the way I’ve heard how negatively adults can react to female characters with so few evident flaws. One other thing I noticed is that Yue is treated less like a prize to be won over by two guys fighting for her. Instead, here, she was given agency to end things with Hahn, rather than choosing Sokka and Hahn just conveniently disappearing. Also, it’s less scandalous for her to get together with Sokka when she’s unattached than how it went in the cartoon. Even though it’s made obvious that she doesn’t want to go through with the marriage out of anything other than obligation to her tribe and political position, when faced with a wider range of adults in the audience, I doubt that there wouldn’t be many who would dislike her character if it played out the same.
I think with Azula, the struggle is the animated version never looked like a 14 year old...to make an actual 14 yr old look that menacing without context is difficult
Amber Midthunder as Princess Yue, accurate casting, wig aside😅😅. She is a very good actress, I recommend reacting or watching her thriller/horror film for movie night: PREY. It is a very good film, the second best Predator film, in my opinion.
I think the spiritual element made Sokka and Yueh's fast connection more believable. It felt really rushed and thin to me in the cartoon. I'm also really sad about her wig because Amber Midthunder's performance was GREAT but its been reduced to memes. 😔
Wig didn't really bothered me that much,I really like that actress from the movie Prey so it was cool that she is Yue :) Fight with Pakku was really good but yeah I don't get the reason why Aang doesn't learn waterbending in the season which adapts Book called Water...
In the same episode we get Yue as a fox, we get Wan Shi Tong, but other than her, we don’t get his foxy knowledge seekers. More than anything, it’s done as a reference.
Aang is a quick learner. It will even be better and make Katara angrier when he shows her up. So I dont think its a HUUGE issue just because Aang never practiced waterbending in season 1 of THIS adaptation. He can learn it in like...the first episode of season 2...or even better in the first HALF on EP 1. He doen't need as much time to pick it up compared to Katara;😭And then people will complain, "ohhh why did they make Aang learn waterbending so quickly" etc. But if you're a true fan, you know Aang is a VERY quick learner and he learnt it with ease in the cartoon anyways. Them doing that would therefore be cartoon accurate and logical. Also the fact that water was the next easiest elemet to master for him. He'll also be more willing to train with Katara in season 2 compared to season 1 cause he now fully trusts her, respects her, and thinks of her like family/even more now. The scene where Katara calls Aang back is JUXTAPOSED with ep 1 when it was Gyatso's memory who helped calm him down/bring him back. Katara has replaced Gyatso in Aang's life - a new teacher, and a new form of love. Especially with the kids aging I hope their changes work out😭😢
He was practicing 2 elements in S2 but this time it seems like in LA he will be a novice in both of them, wonder if they will have him try to start learning all 3 elements at the same time cause we didn't see Jeong Jeong either and that would be the best way to introduce him next season or they may even skip him learning the basics of waterbending and and just start the S2 with a scene showing a training session where he is already on advanced level or show snippets of his progress in the first ep from rookie to advanced then move on to find an earthbending teacher which I can't freaking wait...for various reasons. I just hope they nail that casting which is going to be a tough one that's all I'll say, good luck to them lol.
I think theyre gonna go the route of Aang training waterbending off screen. Gonna be atleast a year time skip so if he hasnt mastered water by then I think itll be a waste to cover it in S2.
@@Buckheimer Yeah they cant make the whole of season 2 about water lol. Time skip also makes sense and maybe they'll hint at how quick he picked it up like in the cartoon👌
Seems like they chose not to have Aang waterbend yet is their way of showing tht Aang is still kinda running away frm his responsibility. The only reason I can really think of honestly cus thts a weird change 🥲
He is also grieving the loss of his friend. In episode 2 he said "Gyatso is the one that always trained me." His friend died only a few days ago, to Aang. He is lost and doesnt fully understand his responsibility. He could also feel that he was told to learn from a Master. Katara is not a master in Aangs eyes, yet.
😍Dani🥰I’m nervous as hell, I have a quiz today. Just formative assessment. Last quiz I got a B, to be fair my brother was just killed and I couldn’t concentrate. This is the cutest thumbnail of you guys. It looks as if y’all are laughing at that girl’s wig. On BD. 😂 When I watch you in the morning, I have a good/positive day. I’m getting an A today! Honestly I have no problem with the actors aging up, it's even better, makes the show believable, they're making a journey throughout the whole world, it's only natural that the years passes by
I think the issue is that they made certain changes that's disconnected from the world. Yue was able to break off her own arranged marriage but women aren't taught to fight only use their water bending to heal. It's in world inconsistencies like that I hope they fix for the new two seasons. I'm find fine with less green screens and VFX for better immersion. Why does everyone's outfits look unused like they never worn it before in their lives. Everyone looks like a cosplayer as opposed to that's their outfit. aside from that the series isn't bad. It's even decent by the movie standards but I need to see more energy, passion and footwork moving forward.
Yue being able to break her own arranged marriage is absolutely believable, though. This kind of situation (a woman chosing to refuse an arranged marriage + women not allowed in the military) is really not that unheard of in past or modern societies. I do agree the show looks kinda too clean and tv-ready. It really doesn't feel lived in 90% of the time.
@@samuellevesque7997 bro, they're not only asking to fight. They're asking to be taught how to fight. Thats literally why Katara fights Pakku. No on is saying if people can't break off their arranged marriages. My point is that Grangran had to run away to avoid her arranged marriage just like IRL situation and they took that out but kept in that women couldn't learn their equivalent of self defense and just stick to nursing. Its inconsistent rewriting and bad storytelling when the original had a perfect one to do. I'm tired of you apologist lacking any time of critical thinking when analyzing this show. I'm a fan and I'm glad there's more but this shit ain't it. Do better. It makes sense why the creators left because there's so many dumb changes an inconsistencies that all this series does is point at Easter eggs a VFX and says "see isn't this better than the movie" and people like you drop to your knees and thank them. I loved what they did in the opening scene with earth bending until they get to throne room. I love what they did with the 41st division. I love this rendition of Zhao. Zuko's acting carried his awkward writing. I wanted more Zuko and Aang fighting rather than breaking their one consistency with bending. Is it a flick of a write and someone is incinerated or is it like fighting a fire irl. Go rewatch the original animation, take down story line points. Rewatch the live action and tell me they did a good job after realizing the genius of the animation storytelling that the live action dropped completely. Here one point that many people overlook. Iroh goes thrift shopping after the pirates looking for The gang. Zuko pissed off and Iroh says "it's as I always said before, what better than finding what your were looking for? Finding what you didn't know you need at bargain." Fucking genius double speak speaking not only about buying comfort items and musical instruments for music night with the crew, he summarizes Zuko's arc about finding his destiny and self realization while trying to hunt down Aang. Its deeper than it looks. You know what live action gave us in that "same" moment? " zuko use your tact and empathy and what you need is ... sticky rice." This is low iq food pun if at best analyzed is a sexual joke about getting laid thats borderline homophobic. Thats if there was any type of thought to the writing at all which often it lacked. Yes it had some good moments but overall it was meh. We want thoughtful rendition like the 41st division change that makes sense. Fix what the animation had wrong not split the difference between the animation and the movie.

Cartoon katara had zero growth in book one. Here They are allowing her to grow into the katara we know. Ep. 2 explained why he hasnt started waterbending.
As a guy, I like that they removed the whole, "toxic men are sexist but then learn the error of their ways because a woman shows them they're capable and now they're love interests" trope. It teaches young girls the whole, "I can fix him", but also it feels very permissive in today's age. There's no reason for a man to be sexist in our modern days, with all our information and education, so girls shouldn't have to just put up with it until they have an "arc". Fine, some people can change, but they can change elsewhere where they're not affecting women around them. In the original cartoon Katara had to just listen to Sokka telling her she's a girl and still be kind to him, Suki had to hear it and still "teach him", the water tribe guy was possessive of her and we're supposed to go, "it's his culture, he's a jerk, but whatever". Nah. That doesn't fly anymore, a guy in a show is sexist and it's on HIM to learn, not on HER to teach. Being an over protective uncle teaching my nieces that they don't have to be polite to boys who creep them out and put themselves in dangerous situations in order to be "kind" was tough with so much in our culture teaching us men to take our time and be however we like because it's ok to be trash until we "imagine if it was your sister, mother, etc" and other bs things we shouldn't have to even think of in order to just not be garbage... It's not that hard.
Personally I think the Katara actress really struggles with her character more than the script..she doesn't deliver her lines with enough mmmph! There's a rumor that's why they reduced and shifted her lines away to other characters.😌
I don't even care about the OG Katara. This performance by the actress doesn't deliver nothing, even if they wanted a more tame Katara. I was told a few time she was a good actress, so I'm really puzzled as to what happened here. Maybe they directed her weakly AND she is not yet comfortble to play tame roles like this? Either way, I'm pretty sure they could have helped the actress turn in a much better rendition of Katara.
