    Full Story:
Darla was only 2yrs old when she was brought to Adoptadane Rescue Queensland. She was suffering from a common, highly treatable skin condition called demodectic mange, which had covered a large percentage of her body.
In what looked like a severe case of neglect, was actually unfounded. Darla's previous owners loved her very much, this was not a case of neglect, more misdiagnoses from the vets she had attended. In fact, Darla's family had gone to multiple vets for a second opinion. Unable to get the right diagnosis and treatment, Darla's health worsened.
Eventually, veterinarians told her family that she would need to be "put down." Loving her too much, they reached out to Adoptadane for help. Feeling responsible and guilty for her condition, they relinquished her to the rescue asking them to save her.
They did. For 6 months, Darla went without proper treatment, her health deteriorating. Within 2 months of treatment of salves, baths, medications, Darla had fully recovered and was adoptable.
In fact, soon after she was deemed healthy, she was adopted by Terri who loved her until Darla's recent passing in late 2016.

Is there a specific reason why the family didn't get her back? I feel like they're probably really low income, but I was just curious.

How wonderful that this family sought a way to save this dane's life..not everyone has the means, money, time, knowledge to go the hard miles, so they can be cheered to know their decision led to a renewed life for this dog, great health and once healed, a new loving home. Well done to everyone who worked so hard to save a life.

I know the family is going to get a lot of hate for this, but I think they did the right thing by surrendering Darla. If they were in a place where quality veterinarian care was not available to them, they made the very sad, painful, but sound decision to give her to someone who could make sure she got proper care. I wish more people made selfless decisions like this for their pets. ❤❤

bawling my eyes out over this video. We went away on holiday and left our Dane X in a shelter for 4 nights. We received a phone call on the 3rd night that he had broken out in what looked like mange. We came home to find our lively and loving 5 month old with huge weeping wounds around his neck, chest and belly which quickly spread until he had no fur left on his giant body. It took months for him to recover with visits to the vet every couple of days for treatments/baths. It was an absolutely heartbreaking experience to go through and I feel so much sympathy for this family. He is now fully healed and we adopted a full Great Dane through AdoptaDane QLD to keep our Dane X company.

Demodectic mange is such a horrid and heartbreaking thing to deal with. Wonderful to see that she recovered quite quickly, for such a severe case. I hope her owners don't blame themselves for too long, they tried their best.

What kind of a Vet can't diagnose Mange??? Take a sample & send it in. The Vet should have license stripped. Poor dog, so easily treated!!!

This demonstrates how important it is to learn about the responsibility for, and needs of, companion animals before acquiring one. Impulse from ignorance is never the way to take on another creature. My heartfelt thanks to all who saved this suffering dog and brought her back to health 🐕🏛🇬🇧
