"It looked like someone shook up kittens parts in a can." says Laura, Pretzel's foster at Kitten Rescue based in Los Angeles, CA.
Pretzel and her two siblings were born and immediately dumped at a local LA shelter. Upon seeing them, it was it was apparent one of the reasons why. They were born with serious genetic abnormalities that made just living a challenge. On the outside, their arms and legs were twisted awkwardly in making walking, in the future, impossible.
The problems on the inside were not immediately discernible until the first night when one of the kittens died. Within months, Curly Sue also died of a massive heart attack.
Pretzel was the lone survivor. Her will to live was strong. Her personality was no different than any other cat. She didn't care that her legs were useless and she had to crawl to reach laps. What mattered was that she got there.
Today, Pretzel is living in the perfect home with a perfect Mom. Pretzel is Michelle's first cat, but she loves Pretzel so unconditionally that she wouldn't have it any other way.

How anyone can foster and adopt out animals is beyond me. I can't even look at a dog without getting attached and needing to keep it forever
I fostered five a litter of five... kept two. Loved them all, but the other three found good homes within days of them being up for adoption! Goodbye is the goal, and knowing my kitties that would not have survived without me are thriving is enough.
The same way you foster children. It's not about you. It's their job to provide security and love until forever homes are found and give another child, cat, dog a chance at a normal life.
I’ve done it so a cutie can have an opportunity to get a second chance at life😕🐈🐈
It’s impossible to keep them all fostering is the best alternative they have you have to believe who you are giving them to are people who you trust and believe they would do the right thing for the cat or dog. All of us good people can make a difference.
I just took in an unwanted kitten that I intended to find it a home. It didn’t last 24 hours. She conned us!
It's been a year since this video was made. I hope Pretzel is still happy and healthy with the wonderful lady (Michelle) who adopted her.

I agree I adopted a cat that an umbilical cord hernia and a heart murmur and he also h as d a deformity on one of his paws he wobbled when he walked and I loved him so much then when he passed away from intestinal cancer I adopted a little cat that h as s As small tail like a lions tail. It's not a long tail like other cats but he is as normal as other little cats are.

+PAWsitive I had a kitten like that and my mom saw online that it helps if you kinda bend/move the joints back into place for a little bit each day that it helps but even today if you touch the kitten where it's joints are you can tell that it's a little messed up

when I'm older and have my own place, I want to go to an animal shelter and say "I want to adopt cats and dogs who are disabled or have issues with getting adopted because of different reasons. if you don't have an animal lovers like that yet here is my number."
i was heat broken to hear that 're kittens does and that someone was cruel enough to just give up on them -.- but I'm happy to see that pretzel's happy ^-^
At least these people dropped them off at a shelter. There are people who throw kittens out of their truck (twisted their spine & threw them out, so the poor thing had only seconds left to live - probably in tremendous pain) right in front of a Petsmart in Chandler, AZ. I saw this and was so shocked. I regret to this day that I was so shocked that I did not pay attention to that guy's license plate and would have reported him for animal cruelty in an instant. Pretty Prezle by the way.

Aww! I remembered when I saved a kitten (newborn), that are white like these kitties, someone also stepped on the poor little thing under a restaurant table (cause it was a restaurant table so yeah) then we brought it back home (since no one wanted to take it :c) then we watched videos how to take care of the kitty. But it was midnight that time, so it was hard to immediately go to the vet. So my mom stayed up all night watching over the kitty (well she did get sone time to sleep so she will not sleep while watching the kitty) but the kitty was very cold when I came down the stairs at 9, I waa shocked to see the kitten out of the box. I tried to keep it warm because I didn't know which blanket shape she used. My mom woke up and told me because she put the kitty in a blanket like a sausage roll so it probably fell from it. So then we went to the vet, we tried to look for a mommy, but one of the cages, the cat didn't seem to care a lot, but her kittens and adopted kittens (that are a few weeks or months old) got excited, but sometimes they would step on the kitten accidentally, so we tried to do it in a few other cages, but then the vet decided to put it in a single cage. We had to keep the kitty at thw pet hotel for 1 day cause my parents had work...but when tomorrow morning when my mom picked me up so I can go to school...I asked her, "Mama, how is Champ? (I gave it that name since it is a kitten who dosen't like to give up)" But then she replied, "I'm sorry but Champ...didn't make it :(" Then I started to frown... atleast the kitty did not die alone...one of his favorite people during at the pet hotel was the receptionist or cashier girl whatever you call it cause I forgot :3 Champ loved to drink milk with her, and she also loved to drink milk with him but at 6 PM somewhere around that he died...maybe because it was his bloody litte nose or its body temperature... Champ you will always be remembered ♡

I know those sleepless nights of feeding every 2-3 hours as I had found 2 kittens that were 6 days old when their mom was hit by a car. But so worth it when they finally eat on their own! Sadly my Samantha passed of a massive heart attack in December of 2010 but my sweet Isabella will be 18 years old on August 3rd!

They didn't deserve to be tossed away by whoever did that to them! I wonder if they just took the babies from the mother cat because they were not perfect.
And to Pretzel's new mom Michelle, it is so clear how much you love her for her! I saw she is your first cat too! I always wanted a cat when I was a child but for some reason my parents said no. They liked cats; but for some reason didn't want one. We always had dogs.
So for my first Christmas, my new husband gave me a tiny kitten! Krystal had 8 toes on her left front paw, 7 toes on the right front, and 6 toes on both back feet. She lived until she was 19.
We ended up living with my parents again after my divorce as I moved from PA to FL and they just fell in love with Krystal! She was always an indoor only cat but my parents had a screen porch which allowed her to be "outdoors" but safe. As soon as my parents got up, Krystal would go to the front door and meow. They would open it to let her out to her screen room. Even though she had water out there, she would knock with her paw to come in. She'd get a drink of water, eat some dry food, and use the litter pan and then would meow to go back out! Her favorite think was to watch the tiny Florida lizards on the outside of the screen!
I wish you & Pretzel a long and happy life together! The people who tossed her away don't know what they missed!

Awww!!! One of my kitty girls has pelvic problems since birth. She walks literally like a ballerina, her feet opened to the sides. When I got her I immediately saw her problem. A few months ago she couldn't walk and I knew she was in pain. And the Vet took some Xrays and they revealed what I already thought. She doesn't have any problems climbing, but she can't jump high. But, she's so gorgeous, flame point ragdoll mix, and is the most loving, sweet and affectionate cat I ever had. Her name is Gaia and her adorable and quirky calico sister is Trixie. Love them both!
+Rosani Lebron That is so great! I have a kitty that has spina bifida. When I got her, she dragged her hind legs behind her. I had to make a special litter box with low sides so she could drag herself in. The good news is that she did have bladder and bowel control which is a miracle because her stub tail is completely detached from her spine. She is manx. She was only supposed to live a couple years. She is nearly 14 years old now. When she was six months old, she figured out how to hop like a bunny with her back hind legs together. She can hop really fast and loves to play chase. She is affectionate like your kitty too. She loves everybody.

I had a Manx kitten that was born with her back legs straight instead of curved at the knees. I took her to my vet at 2 days old and begged for anything that would help. He made braces out of coat hanger wire to bend them back around to see if it would help. A few weeks later one leg was floppy but the other was working. We planned on amputation of the leg she was dragging when she was bigger. The office staff named her Forrest because doc made her some manic legs. As time passed forrest started using her bad leg more and more. In 6 months she looked almost normal and had good function.
She had a good long life and I miss her still. She passed away at age 14 two years ago from breast cancer. Because I spent so much time helping her and cleaning her legs, we were very close. She was my adorable baby.
I think all babies deserve a chance to survive and thrive as long as they have a quality of life.
