I had an ex who had to leave town for an extended period- to care for his parents. He asked me to keep his cat for him, and ended up being gone for nearly 2 years..When he came back and was going to pick up his cat, he realized that the cat was now “home” with me, and we decided I would keep him. He loved that cat enough not to want to uproot him for a second time..Of course, that’s adulting..
I am glad Judge Judy takes into account the animal's mental health when deciding a case. Like she says, they have feelings and shouldn't be uprooted because someone doesn't have their life together. I don't see this going well for the Plaintiff, hasn't she watched the show before?!?

If she proved she paid for it.
She would then have to pay him for taking care of the dog for 3 months. Unless she visited consistently, bringing dog food, paid for grooming and vet visits, treats, toys etc.

When I was between apartments and couldn't have my dog, I found him a place before finding myself one. I visited him every chance I got, despite 40 miles between us and me not driving. I saw him at least three times a month.
Where there's a will, there's a way. And while my heart breaks for anybody losing their animal, it's the animal's life. I hate moving. I won't do that to my animals unless we must.
I lost my dog this year, at 13. The time we lived apart was 11 years ago. When I got him back, we never moved again, his whole life.

And then two from a later litter from her mother, nearly four months. One from their litter passed away before I could get to them. I named her Spirit, and I believe she was meant for Apollo.

SMH. I'm a veterinarian.....you have NO idea how many stupid ppl have had a cat for years, and then get a puppy. The cat is absolutely miserable til the end of its life, in most cases.
A middle aged laid-back dog would be a better choice if anything. I've adopted adult dogs, "rescued" older ones, and my cats treat any house dogs like ships passing in the night. But I know exactly what you mean about the puppy nightmare for cats.

So she abandoned the dog for 7 months and now that's she's in a better position, she thinks she's entitled to have it back. She doesn't care about what's best for the dog and even worse, ABANDONED HER CAT with him for 3 months without a care in the world.
This doesn't sound like animal love to me. This stinks of revenge for ending the relationship, wanting to hurt the defendant by taking his dog away.

My family dealt with something like this. My sister and her friends, who were in a relationship, lived together. One of the girls, whom we'll call J, decided to break up with the other girl, whom we'll call M, after they proposed to each other. They had a dog. J technically owned the dog, but M took care of her, took her to the vet, and did all the paperwork. J decided she wanted to move in with her new girlfriend (it was revealed that she cheated), and dip out on the lease, leaving my sister and M with the rent. They took her to court and with her dipping, the infidelity, the witness statements saying that J never took care of the dog and the fact that M had a better living situation for the dog, the judge actually told J that she had no rights and forced her to sign away rights to the dog. Happy day!

JJ doesn’t care about pointless information, it doesn’t help the case and it’s just a manipulative technique. The plaintiff behaved like a spoilt brat.
The defendant comes across as very respectable and has his head screwed on. The only mistake he made was getting involved with the plaintiff, she probably took advantage of him.

Leaving any thing at someone else's house for more than one month absent a contract and fees being paid, is legally regarded as abandoned. The reason the law works that way is to give someone reasonable time to arrange a place and transport. After one month it is considered that the "owner" is being absurdly tardy in organizing their affairs, and loses all legal interest in it.
This precious crier-on-demand was thinking that the world works as it does for everyone else, but not for her. She should be grateful the defendant gave her her cat back. He didn't have to, because it was already way past the month she had to get her property.

Regardless of circumstances of the relationship, this is a selfish desire and does not take into consideration what is best for the puppy. Move on and adopt a new dog. A voiceless animal should not have to be traumatized because of an adult human's emotional needs.
