Not sure if this will help anybody. Mine was exhibiting similar issues as the one in this video. However, I took mine apart without ever seeing this or any type video or guide. I noticed a great deal of debris on the switch and throughout the housing. Fired up the compressor and blew the dust out. After putting all back together it worked. I've not stress tested the blower beyond the first trial run, will keep using it and if it fails, I'll let y'all know. Thanks to those who make fixing stuff easier by sharing all the skills and knowledge!
Yup, there are repair options for the tinkerers. For my use i need the variable speeds. They know the dial switch is crap but never improve it. Ive been thru 3 of em all go bad. The motor eventually goes after a lot of miles on it. But these blowers are strong, you can get 5-6 years hard use out of them but the switch will go jancky sooner or later.
Must be creative. I have the same and I ordered a Fan switch, if it doesn't work I will use a dimmer, SCREW the CARTELS that want you to throw everything 😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠
I'm currently trying to repair my Mom's Toro blower and the issue is it doesn't shut off. It is on full blast all the time. I guess I'm lucky it is working and will have to tell her just to plug and unplug it.
I had issues with this switch for years. (wouldn't turn all the way off) finally decided to take the switch apart as I figured there were some bad contact surfaces in there. I was right there were some burnt contacts. I cleaned them off and commenced to putting the switch back together. Everything was going good until.....I noticed that one 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 (brass) contact thingy that had fallen out and I didn't notice where it came from and can't figure where it goes. Damn! I was trying to be so careful taking it apart and not lose anything. Guess it's time to rig up a toggle switch. I just use this blower/vac as a vacumn so all I need is full speed.
My dad found one of these at the thrift store, same issue except he replaced the viariable switxh with an on off switch so it was either off or full blast lol
if you know how, you can replace it with a different switch. I watched a video of somebody doing this and it worked. I have a toto also that does not work, i am sure is the same thing.
At 5:15 your index finger is nearly touching a black wire that is connected to the top side of an L-shaped prong (?) on the starter. How is that connection made? My wire is broken off there but I have no clue how to reconnect it. Any ideas? Thanks.
The safety switches on those go bad... you can open em up and override safety with a peice of popsicle stick inserted between plunger and switch also you don't have to run it on variable speed you can run it with a regular switch full tilt...
Thanks for the informative video. I've got the same problem with my 3 year old blower. Could you provide a link or more information regarding the toggle switch you used. Thanks!
The blower that I have is 120 volt and pulls 12 amps. I went to the hardware store and got a 120 volt 15 amp toggle switch. Made a plate and put the switch in the blower. I left the safety switch in because it was still good and working. Thanks for watching

Sorry to bother you again, but did you remove the transistor from the circuit when you replaced the variable speed control with a toggle switch? Thanks again.
@@TheGAutomotiveAndMoreI used a Gardner Bender GSW-10 toggle switch and it located where the existing switch was located. I modeled a housing using SketchUp that would fit into the existing cavity without any fasteners or adhesive. The first try placed the switch connectors too close to the motor housing so I fashioned a second one which raised the switch so it wouldn't go to deep into the motor housing. I used Baltic birch which worked out pretty well, but I sure wish I had a 3D printer. I'll miss the speed control but at least I can still use it with my gutter cleaning attachment.
Don't waste your money on this model. My machine has the same problem. These switches are notorious for failing sometimes only a few months after purchase. The contacts inside the switch fuse together causing the plastic knob to break. Toro is well aware of this problem but refuses to sell the part to fix it! Hundreds of similar complaints continue to fall on deaf ears. To be safe, either buy another brand or purchase an additional service contract. You are going to need it!!!!
Yes, the switch is bad. Take it out and throw it away . Now wire, it direct when you plug it in way you go. Yes, it will run on high but that’s where you want it 98% of the time anyway. And as far as the vacuum and the bag that’s a total joke anyway, absolutely worthless. It’s a leaf blower and a good one once you get rid of the poorly designed off on switch.
The problem on mine wasnt the rotary switch, but the safety switch was not engaging. Check out this video for a quick fix ua-cam.com/video/dsSEsmx2Vfw/v-deo.html

I replaced my faulty switch with a common 15A lamp slide dimmer, works great. I like it better than the dial in fact, better finesse and range
I used a 15A toggle switch in this one. Thanks for watching

About to check my safety switch maybe yours is jammed. Had mine for 23yrs lol

I did put a toggle switch in mine after I posted this video.

Its probably soldered or they welded it. You should be able to solder it. Thanks for watching
@@TheGAutomotiveAndMore I have tried soldering it but it won’t stay attached. I’ll try improving my technique again. Thanks

@@debbiewilson5399 Yes.
Question! Does anyone know if we can jump rotary switch with a simple toggle to achieve full power?
Yes you can.
Why not just main line it through another switch? I had an old stereo volume control that I used never had a problem with mine again.
Yes I got a toggle switch for it.

Yes, cut the switch out and the transistor. There are 2 black wires on the switch use them.

You, my friend, are absolutely right. I wish YOU jad a video on straight wiring this thing ..
I'm like you. I'm all or nothing
A simple dimmer switch works well
Bypass the switch
Keep banging on it and it won’t work anymore
It’s already broken 😗
