- Gil Carrillo first became a patrol officer for the LASD in 1971 and stayed in the police force until October 2009 when he retired after 38 years. During that time, Gil Carrillo was promoted to Lieutenant of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. Gil Carrillo investigated between 700-800 murders to include the "Nightstalker Serial Killer Richard Ramirez" and coincidentally, Carrillo’s badge number, 187, is the police radio code for murder in the US. Since retiring from the police force, Gil Carrillo has held lectures on his work and has spent much of his retirement traveling the world with his wife, Pearl.
Gill is a lovely man, he's a fucking great story teller and he has gone through a lot. Wish we could see him in more Interviews. Especially Interviews about Richard Ramirez!
Gil you are an amazing human being
I'll buy the book immediately
Brilliant interview with an L.A. legend. I loved the in-depth questions you asked Mr Carrillo.
Thank you very much. Each week I post a new conversation with another guest. You can also listen to the show here.

I have a BA in journalism, so I'm qualified to say that u ask the BEST QUESTIONS & allow your guest to answer without interruption. A refreshing change
Thank you so much. That really means a lot. This is definitely a labor of love and Gill is a great guy.
Thank God that Vietnam made you a better person, Gil, as opposed to the infamous cousin "Mike" who ended up severely mentally affected and affecting other lives in a VERY evil way - Richard and his very own wife that he murdered in cold blood. Yess, i agree w the below comment by Kath Lp = I would love to know how the Ramirez family is doing please Gil ! Ruth, Mercedes, and Ruben, Joseph, Robert as well... did they feel Richard was saved before he passed? I feel he was.I am sure they stormed Heaven's Gates with prayers for him... Thanks
Cousin Mike was already a psycho before he went to war. He just came back worse and then infected his young impressionable Cousin with a knowledge that he should never have been exposed to. Mike, in my opinion, was every bit as responsible for those murders as Richie any should have shared the same fate that he faced. Richie looked up to him and he corrupted his mind, murdered his wife in front of him and his own kids. And to make matters even worse he basically got away with it and when he died he was buried with full military honors including a 21 gun salute.
@Iutab tab, For the ones that believe in religion, can I tell you. RR and cousin mike are both in the only place they deserve, and that´s HELL. Wasn´t that what RR wanted anyway?
Wouldn't it be so great if we all knew a good man like Gil
It would have been better if Richard could have had a male figure like Gil as a role model in his life.
Gil the Teddybear. What a good, humble man. Please write that book. Much love from Sweden
Can you please ask Gil Carrillo if he can talk about richard ramirezs siblings? Where are they now are they alive and why don’t they speak out about their brother
isn't it obvious? they don't want to deal with this shit and we should accept that and leave them alone.
they’re all still alive and they’re still not ready to talk about it,, don’t think they ever will tbh
I saw a comment of one of his nieces that said his siblings are still alive but don't want to talk about it.
@@thewormloop6885 can u write the link to that comment please if u still remember
@@vrs3521 ua-cam.com/video/7jleP_cOrY8/v-deo.html that's the video. She talks about it in some comments (her dad, her aunt and uncles, etc.) but very little tho.
Gil, you really should read Philip Carlo's book on the Night Stalker. It's a good book, and if it really is an honest look into Richard's life and criminal history, his personal journey and family's background, you just may come away with an even greater understanding of how Richard ended up like he did.
Carlo probably got some info in his book from Gil
@@sakabula1285 I'm sure he did, but that doesn't mean he he read the the book once Carlo put it all together. There are some inconsistencies with a lot of the content. I wish I could get Gil's opii
@@sakabula1285 I wish I could talk to Gil myself.
@@DonnaRichie Yes I understand...I would love to have a chat with him myself
