      I never served but I've had family go to Iraq and Afghanistan and I asked them if they would go back 20 years from now and they said no. My cousin who served as an MP in Iraq said and I quote, "You could put a gun to my head and I wouldn't go back". My other family members said the same thing. If I went I wouldn't go back. Those countries are combination of a graveyard and a pigsty.

      All Vietnameses even the communist didn't and will never hate the American veterans and American citizens, there was no animosity even my neighboor, he was fought for NVA from 1965 when he was 14 until the war ended in 1975, he and his family now live peacefully. However, he soly told me how the war happen, how he trekking from the north to south and fight against enemies without animosity or frustration, he told when the your nation call, you go with your patriotism, he admired how good the US weapon was

    if you want to blame anyone for this war, blame france not USA.

    • @torbk
      @torbk 7 років тому +9

      In Geneva, 1954, was signed the Geneva accords. They finalized the end of French colonial rule. These guaranteed that democratic elections would be held so the people of Vietnam could chose their own future and their own path in 1958. There were two choices; the pro-communist Ho Chi Minh and his northern government and the anti-communist south government of Bao Dai. The trouble from an American perspective were that if democratic elections were held, the communists would win. They would be elected legally. So the defenders of democracy and political freedom, USA, backed south Vietnam in withdrawing from the accords. That left the northern government that actually had the backing of the people no choice but go to war if they wanted to unite their country. Bluntly put, they were betrayed by the powers that should defend democracy, because of political fear of Ho Chi Minh and communism.
      So blame lies with the USA. Blaming France overlooks the simple fact France was out of there in 1954. Had elections been held four years later as intended there would have been no war.
      It was the USA blocking a democratic election in 1958 that sparked what is known to us as the Vietnam War. Going to war to stop the spread of Communism in 1961, in the Kennedy escalation. In hindsight the north won anyway, in the end they gained control of the entirety of Vietnam and today Vietnam is a prosperous and reasonably successful country.

    • @torbk
      @torbk 7 років тому +3

      French second invasion? Perhaps if you are talking about the return of the French in 1945 when the Japanese were kicked out. The First Indochina War, also known simply as the Indochina War, was the French getting kicked out. They never returned. The Second Indochina War, known as the Vietnam War, was the US invasion of Vietnam. There was no French second invasion after the First Indochina War.

    • @torbk
      @torbk 7 років тому +5

      Either way, blame for the Vietnam War, or the Second Indochina War, lies squarely with the USA, when they backed South Vietnam in stopping the elections in 1958. Had those been held Vietnam would have been unified without a major war. Blaming France after they were no longer involved, and war could be averted, ignores that the USA feared Communism so much that they not only arrested people in the USA for being Communist, despite the constitution vouching for political freedom, but also disregarded democracy when it suited them.

      Mikey Lejan If you ever lived here, you could feel it. When social media went viral (thanks to smart phones), people could get information from both sides and felt disgusted because all of the lies they had been taught for decades. Former Vietcong soldiers also got mad of the Vietnamese authority because corruption has been rapidly increased. In the past, communist authorities used to be called “the people’s servants”, now the people are their “milking cows”.
