    My goodness, this video has blasted off over the last 24 hours. Thank you everyone who clicked and watched the video! I can't be any happier to see all those positive feedbacks towards the first video. Your support truly means a lot to me, and I really did not expected to see this perform very well this quickly. You guys are the legend. This could've not been possible without you. ❤
    In the meantime, the second video will come in few days. Stay tuned!

    Sometimes I look at modern Celerons and Pentiums and think “dude that’d have been a decent laptop maybe 15 years ago” and remember those old Atom laptops that struggle to do literally anything.

      The Celeron N4120 may be 5 years old, but it does the job of playing 1080p60 UA-cam on a 10.1" fanless laptop. Much better than the N4020, which is the same CPU but with 2 cores instead of 4.

      Bay Trail / Cherry Trail Atoms were apparently redesigned from scratch to be more efficient than previous versions and they were pretty good at it. Modern low-end Pentiums / Celerons are still based on the same tech as Cherry Trail, I think.

    45 seconds is only a slow boot time when you compare it to modern flash based devices which can boot in 11-20 seconds. That time was on par with how fast PCs booted back then. As Cathode Ray Dude pointed out in his video about alternative OSes in laptops, people were often used to turn their PCs on and go do something else while it booted.

      nowadays it became worse than ever before. Because they closed their divison in Korea and they started to use machine translation.

    • @enginerd80
      @enginerd80 Місяць тому

      @@u.knowmysteelo If it's any consolation, translations to other languages are not so great either. Finnish translations sometimes leave me wondering what they are trying to say. (Partly for that reason I have secondary user accounts on my computers set to English in the user interface. That way I can check the questionable spot to see if the meaning is clearer. Also, searching for the terms in English gets better results on Google.) Sometimes the translations can be _technically_ correct, in the sense that the translation is _a_ valid translation for the source sentence, but the source sentence could mean different things in different contexts and the translator had had to make guesses on the context, and the guesses don't always go right. But starting with Windows 10, spots have started to stick out that just scream _BAD MACHINE TRANSLATION_ ! So, Microsoft's approach seems to be to not care about the quality of translations, but to poorly translate into a large number of languages so they can pat themselves on the back for being _so_ international 🙄.

      Nvidia ION was no more usable than a media accelerator. With only 16 CUDA cores and 128MB of shared memory (because there's no dedicated VRAM for entry level discrete laptop GPUs back then) it only performs slightly better than integrated Intel GMA while consuming more power

    Glad this channel popped up on my feed; UA-cam algorithm actually doing its jobs for once!
    I imported a Viliv S5 to the United States; tiny x86 computers are always fascinating to me for their practicality. From servers, to Internet chatting, productivity, email, sometimes even GPS; if a laptop or desktop can do it, then so can a MID/UMPC, albeit a liiiiitle bit slower. ;-)
    I look forward to more of your content; keep it up! You've hit a particularly interesting niche not many people know about.

    That thing was everywhere in my college days (2008-2013). Lightweight, battery last for a day, enough for college student to do their homework and watch anime, and dirt cheap.

    I had this exact Samsung netbook when I was a college freshman. It was good enough for me ro do basic note taking, PDFs and homeworks. Basic surfing was okay. I was content to use it. It lasted me for 7yrs, still used it even though I already had a job and some money.
