Is he a musician as well? His knowledge of music theory and instrumentation is impressive. Chaka is the main focus of my master’s thesis topic and I learned a few things from Jack’s review. Nice!
i guess Im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a method to log back into an instagram account?? I was stupid forgot my password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
Chaka is my favorite female vocalist. Miles Davis once said she sounded like his trumpet! Her voice is a true instrument. BTW she hated Kanye’s “Through The Wire”! She wasn’t a fan of her sped up vocals..and I agree. Lol
I've always loved Chaka Khan, but it wasn't until a few years ago when I heard her cover "Diamonds are Forever" that I realized her voice is an instrument all in itself. She's so amazing!!
The video for this song was shot at the Union Train Station in Los Angeles during the summer of 1984. This song was a crossover hit for Chaka Khan. It did well on the Billboard Soul chart. It peaked at the #15 spot during the early winter of 1985. On the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it peaked at the #60 spot. This song was written by Canadian singer-songwriter David Foster.
This woman is like a firework going off to me....she can give me REAL TINGLES with her voice and her lyrics...Rufus and her.."Do You Love What You Feel"...great tune....not forgetting "I Feel For You" "I Know You, I Live You", "What Cha Gunna Do For Me"... She is a Living Legend!!!!
Chaka is definitely a force! FYI Chaka performs all the background vocals on 90-95% of her catalogue which is why her sound is so easily identifiable! I hope you find time to react to her cover of the Michael Jackson classic "Got To Be There".
I remember recording some Chaka for a buddy once I got him hooked. I went to visit him one day and saw him walking to his house. He had on headphones and looked pissed. When I got to him and took a few of his grocery bags he angrily snatched off the headphones saying, get this hollering itch out my ears. His first lesson you don't play Chaka at high volume unless you understand it's gonna be a funky ride.
Here's a little known fact about this song : The original title for this song was CHAKA it was written by David Foster for his album the best of me[1983] it was an instrumental piece about CHAKA KHAN ! Also, i believe Chaka's name means "woman of FIRE" !!!
Oh my gosh 😍 I've been waiting for a Chaka Khan song for forever. Through the fire is one of my favorites and is the song that made me a chakaholic you should definitely do "ain't nobody" or "I feel for you" next.
According to my research the song was recorded in 1984 and released in 1985. I remember hearing the song as a kid but I've never watched a video. I love the song. Can you please review: " I feel for you by" Chaka Khan.
One of my favorite Chaka Khan songs is "Papillon (Hot Butterfly)". It was co-written with Luther Vandross - you can hear him singing in the hook. By the way, have you reacted to Luther yet? Dude! If not, do "Never Too Much"
She has been one of my favorite singer, since I first heard her sing when I was 10yrs. old I am now 57 yrs. old. Didn't know about Luther writing the hooks, and singing in the background.Love getting info that I didn't know.👍
HELL YEAH Ms. Chaka Khan 🥰 3:57 - 4:05 That's actually Los Angeles Union Station Jack, where the video was shot 🤗 4:10 "good visual setting though". I agree totally 😊 great reaction

The video for Through The Fire was actually filmed inside Los Angeles Union Train Station, which has such huge stained glass windows that it gives off the look of a church in the video. Amazing song of hers.
Great reaction Jack! You should check out Rufus, which was her band before she went solo. “Tell Me Something Good”, “Sweet Thing” and “ Do You Love What a You Feel” are all classics from the 70s. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yes Jack! Chaka is a legend and a vocal masterclass! I knew you would enjoy this song like you did I'm Every Woman! She ain't called the Queen of Funk for nothing.
ICONIC my Brother Jack👊 Chaka paved the way for Many of the Female artist through the years💯 "For a chance to be with you I'd gladly give it all" ❤️ Damn now that's saying "A LOT" to that "SPECIAL" someone❣️
Wanna know a fact? She is a powerhouse then and now. I’ve heard her do a simple run that gave me chillz. Her range is insane…and she still has that power. Chaka,Aretha Franklin , Tina Turner never lost their power over time. Chaka will make your hair stand on end even now
Please more of Chaka when she sang with Rufus in the '70s. Her range was always incredible. She can reach deep down with that one of a kind voice and soar like no other. My favorite was the song: Sweet Thing. It is an excellent example of her unmatched artistry.
Jack this is my favorite song from her and unsaid stank face I love you dude the man who wrote this song said he had her in mind when he wrote it he also said he never does that when writing songs
This song makes me feel so WARM, you know? Chaka really knows how to wrap her voice around you. She's really and truly one of the best. "Through the Fire" was released as the third single from Chaka's sixth studio album I Feel for You (1984). It peaked at #60 on the Hot 100 and at #15 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The music video was filmed at Los Angeles' Union Station. Please react to: I Feel for You (title track) Ain't Nobody (with Rufus) De La Soul - All Good? (feat Chaka Khan), Oooh. I’ve been waiting for you to react to this!!!! It’s my favorite Chaka Khan song and I never get tired of it. But it came out at the same time as Whitney’s first hit song, so didn’t stay on play on the radio.
I loved Kanye first 3 albums I was obsessed but he took a turn,I hope we will get the old Kanye back.Chaka is one of my favorite artist this is my best Chaka song but I love many
Chaka Khan is so underappreciated. I mean when people talk about the greatest female singers, she wouldn't get a mention. I love "I Feel For You" but so much of what I love about that song is the music so I don't say that's my favorite song of hers.
fun fact : Chaka didn't like how Kanye sampled it. She wasn't thrilled that she was sped up to sound like a chipmunk. You should react to Chaka's "Ain't bobody". "Ain't nobody" might have made it onto Michael Jackson's "thriller" album. The songwriter David "Hawk" Wolinski threatened to Give it to Michael Jackson if Chaka's label didn't make it the album's lead single.
Love how you're catching all the samples! Hip hop is awesome for that. You should do a "Samples Series" where you react to the original songs of popular hip hop beats 🔥🔥🔥

Chicago’s finest. Kanye was paying homage to his Chi-Town homegirl Chaka by sampling this in “Through the Wire.” Chaka Khan was an active member of The Black Panthers in Chicago before becoming lead singer of Rufus ✊🏾
This looks like it was filmed in union station in Los Angeles where I'm from lol that seating area is very cathedral like they even have a piano in the corner now. (Cant play it due to covid tho)

Absolutely Darnell!!! Jack, you'd really appreciate the range and various colors of Chaka's voice on "Got To Be There", you won't be disappointed!
Speaking of "Got To Be There", if you really want your mind blown, listen to the Michael Jackson original, followed immediately by the Chaka version.
Chaka is one of the most beautiful women to me. Love her!!!
I love seeing young people connect this fabulous artist.
I remember recording some Chaka for a buddy once I got him hooked. I went to visit him one day and saw him walking to his house. He had on headphones and looked pissed. fun fact : Chaka didn't like how Kanye sampled it.

Please do Chala's "I Feel For You" and Patti Labelle's "If Only You Knew"
Such a timeless classic hit 🔥 🔥🔥
This was the third single from Chaka Khans "I feel for you" album. The title track of that album gave Chaka something of a career resurgence being one of the top 5 songs of 1985. Unfortunately, this song failed to catch fire (pun intended). It didn't make it to the top 50 of the hot 100 and underperformed on the rnb charts. It was only appreciated years later and would go on to become one of her signature songs.
Chaka is an excellent recording artist but many of her live performances have been panned. You might have seen her recent viral butchering of the national anthem. Her 1999 performance at the second installment of Divas Live--which featured Whitney, Mary J Blige, Tina Turner, and a few others--was also critically panned (but fan approved). There are many fan videos about her terrible performances at concerts.
For much of her life Chaka struggled with addiction which included cocaine, heroin, and alcohol and that may be a contributing factor in her less than stellar live performances. While performing at Aretha Franklin's funeral, she had the lyrics to the song she sung taped to a fan she was carrying. It was so conspicuous, even the audience members could see it. If she were just about anyone else, she likely would've caught flack. Her "bad" performances were more prevalent later in her career so age might also a contributing factor.
She did a performance with BB King, Gladys Knight, and Etta James 2 years after this video was released. She was visibly high, drunk, or both. In a comically genius way, there were times you couldn't understand what she was saying, but she she sounded good doing it. In the 90's Chaka did a song which I thought should've been a huge hit called "never miss the water" with Meshell Ndegeocello. Alas! It was not to be. (Meshell is another artist you should check out. She had a hit with the song "if that's your boyfriend." You really gotta listen to the message, it was a hit for the wrong reason).
One of my favorite songs from the 80's was a song by Steve Winwood called "Higher love." Chaka sang the chorus. For years it was hard to distinguish what Chaka really brought to the song. The earlier versions of the video didn't even list her as a featured artist. It wasn't until I heard Steve Winwood and his daughter do a remake that I realized how immense Chaka's contribution was. If you don't know the song you should check it out. It's a really positive message that's especially relevant in these dark times.
Chaka Khan is one of my favorite artists and this is unquestionably one of my favorite songs by her.
I remember listening to this song at a car wash with my dad and sisters
Its shot at Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles. I know that Station anywhere.
This is one of my all time favorite songs. Luv this channel. Please react to FIRE AND DESIRE by Rick James & Teena Marie.
