A day of chaos brings Twitter closer to the brink

  • Two weeks after Elon Musk completed his acquisition of Twitter, the future of the company has never looked less certain. In the past week alone, one of the world’s most influential social networks has laid off half its workforce; alienated powerful advertisers; blown up key aspects of its product, then repeatedly launched and un-launched other features aimed at compensating for it; and witnessed an exodus of senior executives. #CNN #News

    • @RandomIdiotGS
      @RandomIdiotGS Рік тому +1

      @@cadpole
      - It's a breeding ground for far-right extremism and generally people with an extremist/polarizing agenda.
      - It's a breeding ground for misinformation due to the compact, baseless, unfiltered format of messages.
      - The platform limits itself due to adhering to policies of some particular countries that are completely detached from our Western demoracy.
      - It''s used by some as a replacement for journalism when all it does is amplify attention for a select group of people that do not need it. Although you might not be able to blame the platform for this directly, it certainly does next to nothing to mitigate this (a blue tick behind the name so we know who is who doesn't change the content of messages and how people use it whatsoever)
      - Although this last one is a bit of an opinion and can be said about many platforms, it's alienating people from society, because it's very easy to randomly put any small piece of "information" on the internet that has zero meaning on anybody else but aims to draw attention to the poster and not so much what he or she has to say, making pointless arbitrary usage or even intentional abuse of of the platform the norm. As an example: some controversial thing might happen and both random people and influencers instantly snowball responses into one direction to influence people's opinions.
      - Especially big companies/names use it for personally motivated goals. Businessmen may make odd comments about the financial status of their company causing instant market speculation, affecting market stock values. Or popular individuals may use it to slander other people for the sake of slander.
      There's probably many more reasons, but here you go.

      Even if Tw@er is being destroyed by Musk’s hypocritical idiocy and grasping attempts to get into the wallets of the poorest people, whilst claiming to protect, “free speech,” by charging for it, we must all remember that Tw@er was a castle built upon sand to begin with. Most of Tw@er’s, “advertisers,” are state powers and intelligence departments of countries hostile to the west, paying to pretend to be news outlets. Even if Tw@er became a, “safe,” system that was fair, honest and representative, it would lose all of its paying fakers, which would be most of its revenue stream. There is no version of Tw@er’s future in which it could ever be a, “good thing,” in the world, unless it took that multi-billion dollar hit and rebuilt itself from the ground up . . . by which time, all of the fake Russian, Chinese and other hostile entities paid to divide the western powers, will have migrated to other platforms to pollute those. When your business model is just to take the money and not ask questions about what people are up to, or even if they really are who they say they are, this is the result.

When you’ve become a billionaire, all you do from their is pay lobbyists, image management professionals, politicians and, of course, lobbyists, to keep you rich and develop an image of you in the world that is a complete fiction of your own devising.
      I’m not a billionaire but I am, “wealthy,” by any reasonable standard, and I rub shoulders with billionaires from time to time. I thought the first rule of talking over a large business in a segment of the economy where you have zero experience is to avoid making changes for 6 to 12 months while you learn how the business works. When you fire most of the business' executives and senior managers right away and cut the jobs of all the other employees by 30% or so, you lose the corporate memory and years of experience, and you start a stampede of employees taking vacation time to look of a different job. And you end up making stupid business mistakes that those with more experience in that business know not to make.

  • @innergi5516

    It's not the Titanic of SM. It's the seller showing up Elon Musk by playing him like a violin. Sell Twitter to Musk for a few weeks, watch it go bankrupt under his watch, then buy it back on the stock market for next to nothing, it bounces back under their control. That boosts the reputation & value of the very company that sold it to Musk in the first place, & puts Elon in his place. Two birds with one stone. He clearly got under the wrong skin.
    Whoever is behind this: I'm going to make MY company more valuable then YOU at yourexpense, & youre going to do it all for me. Donnot fk with me again.

      @@markrobinowitz8473 Mars is probably terraformable, but it's difficult to grasp the timescales needed - thousands, if not tens of thousands, of years of a global project at scales we can't grasp, using vast amounts of energy and resources that would have to be produces on and from Mars itself, as well as Earth (and probably the much, much easier to use Moon).
      So, sure, it's possible... But we'll never know about it. Who knows if Humanity will be around 1,000 years from now, let alone 100,000 - a fraction of the blink of an eye in our planet's history alone, let alone the known universe - but at some point, I expect Mars will have been colonized in some way.
