Some people argue that someone who was essentially only a return man shouldn’t get in. Most probably would agree that he was the best to return ever though.
It's funny cause he didn't only return kicks. He became a wide receiver for the Bears later on, being an above-average receiver for the league and one of the best receivers in Bears history, (which isn't a high bar but y'know)
Lawrence Taylor is without any doubt the greatest defensive player in NFL history! His was an absolute ANIMAL when he kept on TRUCKING offensive players like he meant it!
Linebackers, yes but I think you have to split defensive players into linemen, linebackers and defensive backs. Reggie White, Lawrence Taylor and Deion would be the best at those 3 positions
Not least because the rules on pass interference have changed markedly since his day. That's not a criticism of Lane - he played the game according to the rules that then stood.
People will say that it is unbreakable because QBs and Offenses have become so much better... Well, the Offenses also throw the ball A LOT MORE than they used to, especially when that record was set! So the QBs may be better, especially the accuracy and completion rate, but at the same time, there are a lot more opportunities to intercept the ball. As impressive a Record as there is in the entirety of NFL Records!
I understand having Zeke and Dak together, but definitely think Zeke deserved a spot within the top 10. To lead the league with 1,600 yards in a passing era is very impressive. Anquan Boldin also needs to be somewhere on this list, too. He didn't have the flash of a Randy Moss, OBJ, or Ja'Marr Chase rookie year, but his numbers back in 2003 were amazing, despite his QB and being on a pre-Fitzgerald squad.
Big Ben is an example of what happens when you big the entire team first and then add a talented QB on top of it. Every team seems to be looking for a savior these days and it just puts too much pressure on these young QBs
I remember watching Dickerson's rookie year. From a STEELERS fan perspective at 12. It was amazing to watch, the running highlights were almost all Dickerson. He was Huge, for a running back and Such long strides.
A big possibility but knowing the history of running QBs they tend to not have Elite careers for every long Him getting injured is basically the exact reason why Running QBs don't stay Elite for very long

Sayers was so good that he made the Hall despite only playing in five full seasons (he only played in 4 games his final two years in the league). When you play for _five_ seasons and get put in the Hall, that says a lot about what other players and coaches thought of you.

What about Fred Taylor? He was toe to toe with Randy Moss for rookie of the year in 98 breaking out 50+ yards runs in almost every game. I believe he also had 17 total TDs that year.
Moss led the number one scoring offense in LEAGUE HISTORY. He made Randall Cunningham no lower than a 2nd team All Pro from a Unsigned player. Moss was BY FAR the top WR and deserved OPoTY; Fred Taylor was behind Terrell Davis & Jamal Anderson for best Running Back. Context, bud, context. *a case can be made 1998 Randal Cunningham > 1998 Steve Young (because of Randy Moss)
Wow I can't believe Adrian Peterson, Justin Jefferson (who beat Jamar Chase to the rookie rec record, and did it in 1 less game) or Cam Newton were not mentioned.
Russell Wilson as a rookie. 1-Set the rookie record for TD passes 2-had the 2nd most total TDs 3-had the 2nd best passing rating 4-had the rookie record for TD-INT ratio. 5-set the playoff record for passing yards in a game. 6-set the playoff record for total yards in a game. 7-had his team 31 seconds from the NFC title game until his defense blew it in just 23 seconds. 8-had his defense not blown that lead, it would have been the largest 4th quarter rally in NFC postseason history. 9-4 different publications voted him ROY.
Honorable mentions: Billy Howton in 1952 had 1,231 yards and 13 receiving touchdowns en route to a second team all pro selection (the rookie receiving touchdowns lasted until Randy Moss I believe). In their first years in the NFL, Eddie George, Jerome Bettis, and Edgerrin James each topped 1,300 rushing yards, and there’s Franco Harris who topped 1,000 on 5.6 yards per carry with double digit rushing touchdowns. There’s the rookie seasons of Sammy Baugh and Bob Waterfield who won a championship in their first years in the NFL. If you are willing to count players’ second years after a first year where they barely played then Tom Brady also won a championship in his first relatively full year, and there’s Patrick Mahomes’ 50 touchdown season in 2018 after a 2017 season where he played one game. And there’s at least two defensive linemen who made first team all pro as a rookie: Jevon Kearse in 1999, and Ndamokong Suh in 2010. Both also had double digit sacks.

Of course, if you put him in the Big Apple and Eli in Pittsburgh Eli probably wins a few more conference championships over his big bro and big bros big-time foe Tom Brady.
How is Mike Ditka not on here anywhere? Huge over sight. He had 12 TD's in a 14 game season which is still tied for 8th most all time for Tight Ends in one season. Also, he changed the way the position is played. I would even argue he should be number 1.
@@jcchambers7896 I meant number 1 on this list of top rookie seasons. He may have changed the way the position was played but I would still put Gronk, Gonzalez, and Gates ahead of him. I love Earl Campbell, but if we are only going on rookie seasons, check his numbers vs OJ Anderson's. OJ beats him in almost every stat there is. Also winning a RB showdown against LaDanian Tomlinson. … He lit up that decorated Bears defense, who were also Defending NFC champions. … At 8-8 and losing our last two games we were on the fringe of making the playoffs, and would have but AP had a banged up college career & we were too cautious (Brad Childress was also an idiot).
AP was seen as the best RB by his rookie season and in its actual context he’s more deserving than Hester, Baker, and Big Ben. Keep in mind, he has NOTHING around him, especially at QB & Head Coaching.
2021 Jamarr Chase is my personal favorite
My buddies a Cowboys fan and when they drafted Ezekiel Elliott, I told him he would regret that pick at first I ate those words, but as time went on I was right. But I told my buddy they should draft Jalen Ramsey and get Derrick Henry with their second round, pick if he was still on the board. The Cowboys could’ve gotten Jalen Ramsey, Derrick Henry and Dak Prescott, all in the same draft
5 - NIGHT TRAIN LANE 😍 9:39
Honorable mentions: Mark Carrier(bears) 1990, erik mcmillan 1988, Mike haynes 1976, tony dorsett 1977, paul krause 1964, patrick peterson 2011, 1965 dick butkus and john brockington 1971
That is a graceful stride from gale ngl
obj has the record for most yards per game as a rookie and played 12 games only
NO OBJ??
Bears need this guy on their oline asap
Pass defense rules have made defenses softer than baby poop. The men who played before the nfl made defenses weak with rule changes were the ones who really impressed me. Elway, Marino, Randy Moss, Rod Smith, etc. They would have carved up this crazy passing league now. I personally miss “real football” I grew up on.
Leslie O'Neal always gets the shaft.Another video of "top" he's not mentioned. He is definitely one that should've been on this list and in the HOF
Roethlisberger's Ability for Passing Is Simply Terrific
Not having Cam Newton on this list should be illegal
Dak and Zeke were so much fun to watch in 2016
kinda feel like Sauce should've won DPOY but it dosn't compare to LT's season, but finishing as the #1 CB in league as a rookie is pretty damn impressive
Say whatever you want about big Ben but he was a monster in the first 10 or so years of his career. Really great player with a solid team around him. Of course, if you put him in the Big Apple and Eli in Pittsburgh Eli probably wins a few more conference championships over his big bro and big bros big-time foe Tom Brady.
Gale Sayers was greater then ever in his Rookie year in 1965 22 touchdowns speaks for itself
How did Dan Marinos rookie year not make the list?
Jim Brown 😶
How is Mike Ditka not on here anywhere? Huge over sight. He had 12 TD's in a 14 game season which is still tied for 8th most all time for Tight Ends in one season. Also, he changed the way the position is played. I would even argue he should be number 1.
Number all time tight end ?
@@jcchambers7896 I meant number 1 on this list of top rookie seasons. He may have changed the way the position was played but I would still put Gronk, Gonzalez, and Gates ahead of him. Possibly others but his rookie season still was crazy especially considering to that point in the NFL it was the biggest numbers a TE had ever put up by a wide margin.
Barry Sanders deserves mention
Plaxico sure does like snapping Patriots win streaks
No mention of Cam Newton? 🤔
LT loved crackin Jaworski
I love Earl Campbell, but if we are only going on rookie seasons, check his numbers vs OJ Anderson's. OJ beats him in almost every stat there is. Unfortunately he played on a woeful Cardinals team, so he wasn't noticed. If he had the same career while playing with the Giants the whole time he'd be in the Hall by now.
Big Ben had a cannon
Expecting to see randy moss, Big Ben, dak, and Zeke on this list
Sammy Baugh honorable mention??? As a quarterback he led the league in passing and passing TD. Led the League in interceptions as a defensive back and had the highest punting average. ALL IN THE SAME YEAR!!! HOW IS THAT NOT TOP 10?!?!
How was Odell not mention is crazy
Woulda picked Odell over zeke tbh
Adrian Peterson isn’t on this list is ridiculous. He has the single game rushing record as a rookie against the chargers and it still hasn’t been broken! 😊
294 tackles in a season is wild 😂
Why is this not talked about more?? 😂
it is also just straight up bs
@@laurinnn aren’t you the mf who called earl campbell overrated 🤨
@@ArenaPhoenix because he 100% is. the guy made the HOF for 3 good seasons with zero playoff performance to his name. he somehow made the NFL 100. his career numbers arent one bit impressive (for a HOFer) and he was useless as a receiver. his 3 OPOYs were undeserved as well
If Gayle Sayers never got hurt, people would consider him the best RB of all time.
